Title: Houston tries to Steal Two Historic Black Churches
Topic: Eminent Domain
Discussed by Jeremy Dys
with Liberty Institute www.LibertyInstitute.org
On Monday, August 4, 2015, the
Liberty Institute filed a
lawsuit against the City of Houston for
threatening to take the property of two historic Black Houston churches in
violation of the Texas religious freedom law, including the Texas Religious
Freedom Restoration Act. Jeremy Dys is Senior Counsel at the Liberty Institute.
He is here today to discuss this blatant attempt to bully these churches and
steal their land.
Jeremey explains how these churches in the Fifth Ward have been helping the
community for decades, offering church-run food pantries, youth centers, and
programs to combat drug use, gang violence, and abuse. The City of Houston now
says they want the land (along with a good chunk of other land) to build houses
and to use it for retail space and a medical complex, maybe even a library. They
are cunning and conniving and they think they can get away with it – even if
they have to forcibly take it.
Listen in as Jeremy explains eminent domain and why the City of Houston thinks
they can just take the land through this process. Eminent domain, however, does
not apply to religious buildings. Jeremey and others at the Liberty Institute
are not going to allow the City of Houston to steal these churches from the
community. The Liberty Institute is representing the churches for free, as they
do with all cases they handle.

Title: Orthodox Jews Counter-Suit in Dallas
Topic: Religious Freedom
Discussed by Justin Butterfield
with Liberty Institute www.LibertyInstitute.org
It’s okay to have a
Super Bowl Party at your house and invite your Sunday School Class.
It’s okay to have a bunch of friends over to watch the Big Fight on HBO. It’s
okay to have a birthday for your kid in your backyard. Cars litter the street.
It’s loud and crazy. The BBQ pit hot and ready for burgers and hot dogs. Kids
are everywhere. Cars going back and forth.
But heaven forbid you hold a Bible Study or small group in your house! Justin
Butterfield, with the Liberty Institute, is back to give an update on
the lawsuit against a small Orthodox Jewish community. There are no cars for
these 15-20 people because they aren’t allowed to drive on the Sabbath. So,
that’s not the issue. They are praying and worshipping privately inside the
home, not gathering outside blaring music, playing loud instruments, or singing.
So, that’s not the issue. So…what’s the beef?
The neighbor who complained became HOA President, sued the Orthodox Jewish
church (against the vote of the homeowners in the subdivision), and LOST.
Now the City of Dallas is involved and suing the church! The demands they are
placing on the less than two dozen people are OUTRAGEOUS!
Listen in as Justin explains what is happening and why it puts ALL
religions in danger.

this and other religious issues.

Title: Jews being Sued by the City of Dallas
Topic: Religious Freedom
Discussed by Justin Butterfield
with Liberty Institute www.LibertyInstitute.org
The last time Justin
Butterfield was with us, he discussed how an individual (acting without the
approval of his Homeowners Association) sued his neighbor, an Orthodox Jew, who
was holding religious meetings in his private home. To hear that
interview, click [here].
Since this neighbor was unsuccessful in his endeavor, the City of Dallas has
chimed in with their own lawsuit. What makes the matter even worse, Dallas filed
the lawsuit on the eve of Netanyahu’s speech before Congress on Tuesday, March
3, 2015.
Justin Butterfield, an attorney with the Liberty Institute, says, “The
list of demands the City is making is just ridiculous.” One demand is
thirteen extra parking spaces around the home. These are Jews – meeting together
on the Sabbath. They aren’t allowed to drive! Why do they need parking spaces?
Just ludicrous.
Listen in as Justin explains more details in the suit by the City of Dallas
against this small Orthodox Jewish congregation. If you think this doesn’t apply
to you because you are Baptist or Catholic or Methodist or whatever – think
again! They can come after anyone!
You can find Justin and the Liberty Institute [here].

Title: Right to Worship in Your Own Home
Topic: Freedom of Religion Defended
Discussed by Justin Butterfield
with Liberty Institute www.LibertyInstitute.org
Sometimes Home Owners Associations think they can rule the roost and
intimidate homeowners into doing what “they” want. This has happened time and
time again. The Texas Legislature has tried to put the reins on HOA’s, with
little to no luck in the past. Not this time!
Justin Butterfield, with the Liberty Institute, is an attorney who specializes
in religious liberty laws. A small group of orthodox Jews decided to meet
privately in a home and had been for several years. The location had changed
several times over the years to accommodate their religious belief of not riding
in a car on the Sabbath. Listen in as Justin explains the rest of the story….
Some of the people who joined the lawsuit against this tiny congregation were
just outrageous in their claims! Needing to stop for a blind person. Waiting for
a woman with a baby stroller to cross the street. Really?
A State District Judge made the ruling that…..Listen in to hear who won! The
story is quite fascinating!
What about city, county, or even state ordinances? Do they have the right to
stop someone from holding religious meetings in their home? For more on this and
other issues regarding religious liberty, click [here].

Title: Planned, Trained, and Deliberate. Or was it a Simple Mistake?
Topic: Christian Persecution
Discussed by Jeremy Dys
with Liberty Institute www.LibertyInstitute.org
A five-year-old
Florida kindergartener was told "It is wrong" to pray.
Was this an innocent, yet ignorant mistake, or was the school employee trained
by her employer to stop any and all public displays of ‘Christian Religion’?
What rights do our Christian students have in practicing, displaying, and
sharing their religious beliefs? The rule of thumb is that Christian students
have the right to practice their faith even inside their school assignment. They
have the right to pray before a meal. They can publicly display their beliefs.
TThese rights are all protected by law. Students can even share their beliefs
during non-instructional time.
Listen in as Jeremy Dys, with the Liberty Institute, explains.

Title: Thou Shall NOT Lease to A Church
Topic: Christ-a-phobic Behavior
Discussed by Hiram Sasser
with Liberty Institute www.LibertyInstitute.org
The ACLU of Oklahoma is
attacking a proposal by Healthy Living. Why? They want to lease their space to a
church when they are not using it. So what’s the beef?
The Metropolitan Area Project of Oklahoma City was seeking bids for a senior
citizen activity and wellness center throughout the city. Healthy Living and
Fitness, Inc. submitted a tying bid which included a clause to enable them to
lease space to a church when not in use by seniors.
The Christ-a-phobic ACLU claims this violates the Establishment Clause of the
U.S. Constitution. The ACLU is the one violating the US Constitution…so says the
US Supreme Court.

Title: The Defenders of the Alamo Are Turning Over In Their Graves
Topic: No River Walk For Christians
Discussed by Justin Butterfield
with Liberty Institute www.LibertyInstitute.org
Boycotts work. Christians are not welcome in San Antonio.
The Gay Mayor and his friends on city council want to ban anyone that has ever opposed homosexuality, by word or deed, from being involved in city government and/or performing a city contract/subcontract. What about visiting the Alamo City?
I support traditional marriage and I oppose teaching homosexual acts to children in public school. I do not believe that the homosexual lifestyle should be the ‘preferred’ lifestyle. Because of this personal belief, I am not welcome. Therefore I will boycott San Antonio and will ask the Republican Party NOT to hold meetings or State Conventions in San Antonio until the Mayor and his kissing buddies apologize for this most aggressive abuse of power. Listen in.

Title: Will The Family Research Council Be Forced To Cover Sterilizations, Abortifacients and Contraceptives In Its Employee Health Care Plans?
Topic: Constitutional Rights
Discussed by Mike Johnson
with Liberty Institute www.LibertyInstitute.org
Obamacare, we were told, would exempt religious institutions from having to pay for abortions, sterilizations, and other operations that would possibly violate their conscience - we were told a lie, were we not?
What types of institutions have filed suits against health and human services? What did the Liberty Institute do on behalf of the Family Research Council? Why is it that in America for the first time congress passed a bill that violates a fundamental American right?
In 1972, Liberty Institute began as a small advocacy organization under a different name and advanced the cause of liberty, including religious liberty. What began nearly 40 years ago has grown into an influential non-profit law firm, dedicated to defending and restoring religious liberty across America.
