How can meditating on the Word of God help our relationship with Jesus?

Can meditating on the Word of God help us say no to a worldly influence?

HOW TO HAVE A BLESSED LIFE: Delight in the Words of God.

What do you delight in? What makes you smile? This is different than something that makes you happy or brings you joy. Pastor Morris shares about his recent camp experience as the leader of 5th grade boys and encourages everyone to become involved in kids or teen ministries.

Does the Word of God delight you? Are you even reading the Word of God? Pastor Morris reminds us that we will never delight in the Word of God if we don’t read the Word of God. He recommends starting with reading a Psalm a day and pray that God will give you a delight in His Word.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

How is the world influencing you and your family? Who do you follow on social media? Are they influencing you in a good or bad way? How do you act on social media? How do you act at the grocery store? How do you act in your own home? Just something to pause and think about…

HOW TO HAVE A BLESSED LIFE: Say no to the influence of the world.

Why is saying no to the world just as important as saying yes to God?

Is walking with the Lord an important step to avoiding sin? How is standing with the Lord different than walking with him? Why is sitting with the world so dangerous? Pastor Morris explains that when we sit down, it’s like we’re planting ourselves in place. We don’t want to do that! (1 Corinthains 15:33)

We are to love one another – no matter what. Does this mean we must also “accept” everyone and everything? Pastor Morris puts it this way: “Saying no to sitting down with those who oppose God is not legalism; it’s commonsense and it’s godly wisdom.” (James 4:4)

Pastor Steven Morris is the Lead Pastor at the North Klein Champion Forest campus.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

STEER CLEAR OF CHAOS

1 Timothy 4:7 “Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness.”

What is the context behind this verse? Pastor Morris explains that false teachers were spreading lies about Jesus and perverting the Gospel.

Does the Church still have false teachers today? Are too many Christians listening to the false teachers?

Pastor Morris warns: “Pay attention! Pay attention to who you’re listening to. Pay attention to the messages that are shaping your heart and mind. Does it line up with the Word of God?” What does “silly myths” refer to in the passage? Pastor Morris stresses the importance of the beginning of this verse: “Have nothing to do with it!”

Is there something in your life that is irreverent? Are you chasing things that are silly (aka spending too much time on social media and not enough time in God’s Word)?

Why is it so easy to stay focused when things are going great, but not when things are tough? Have you ever asked God “Why???” We all have! The key is to stay focused on the Gospel! Pastor Morris shares a touching story about a first-time visitor to CFBC. Trent is homeless, but someone took time to focus on him! Did Paul view his imprisonment as an opportunity to share the Gospel?

Pastor Steven shares another wonderful story about salvation. A home-bound woman was disappointed that she wasn’t able to share God’s love with others. God sent a neighbor into her life. Not only was that woman saved through her testimony, her neighbor’s son was saved as well! But wait! The story gets even better. Listen to hear the rest of this amazing salvation story!!!

Find Pastor Steven’s sermon here.

Scripture Passage: Exodus 20:17

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What desires are you feeding? What are you dwelling on?

How did the enemy (Satan) trick Adam and Eve? Is he doing the same with you?

Why do we want the things we want? Are they good things? Are they things that will further God’s Kingdom or yours?

Remember: God gives good things to His people! He wants to give you the desires of your heart.

HOW TO COVET THE RIGHT THINGS: Desire God above all.

Are you loving God more than anything else?

Pastor Morris says this: “What makes followers of Jesus happy and joy-filled is not that we have God’s gifts, but that we have God.”

Scripture References: Matthew 7:11; James 1:17; Matthew 22

Day 5

Conflict is a real thing. We have conflict at home, work, school, and even at church. What matters is how we deal with conflict. If we don’t deal with conflict, more conflict will come.

This week, Pastor Steven Morris uses Philippians 4:1-3 to help us navigate those stormy waters of conflict.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Three-Step Process to Help Others in Conflict:
1. Love them.
2. Talk to them and share Scripture.
3. Pray with them.

Why did Paul stress unity so much in his letters?

What is God calling you to do? Pastor Steven gives encouragement to us with Matthew 28, Acts 1:8, and 2 Timothy 2:2…

BONUS 4th Step: Stay on mission! This is the purpose of the church! Thank God for your church family this week – even through conflict.

This week, Pastor Steven Morris uses Philippians 4:1-3 to help us navigate those stormy waters of conflict.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you handling conflict in a Biblical manner? Pastor Morris reminds us of ways not to handle conflict…

HOW TO HANDLE CONFLICT: Bring People Together (vs 3)

Why did Paul use the word “help” here? FACT: This is the only time that Paul used the word help. It’s obviously important!
Why should we allow others to help us resolve conflict?
Why should we step in when we see conflict among believers?
Pastor Steven reminds us of Jesus’ own words from Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peace makers…” Follow his lead!

Three-Step Process to Help Others in Conflict:
1. Love them.
2. Talk to them and share Scripture.
3. Pray with them.

This week, Pastor Steven Morris uses Philippians 4:1-3 to help us navigate those stormy waters of conflict.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

HOW TO HANDLE CONFLICT: Come Together 1-on-1 (vs 2)

Why did Paul call out two men in front of the church? Should we do the same today when there is conflict among believers? Why is it important to not show favoritism when we are helping others resolve conflict? Pastor Morris says this: “Don’t do the natural thing. Do the Biblical thing.”

OTHER WAYS TO HANDLE CONFLICT:
1. Thank about the other person and their needs.
2. Be humble.
3. Remember heaven is our home.
4. Work it out together.

WAYS NOT TO HANDLE CONFLICT:
1. Don’t gossip about it.
2. Don’t be too proud to resolve it.
3. Don’t run away from the problem.

Remember: There is only one winner when we are in conflict: Satan.

This week, Pastor Steven Morris uses Philippians 4:1-3 to help us navigate those stormy waters of conflict.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

HOW TO HANDLE CONFLICT: Stand Firm (vs 1)

Why did Paul write about joy so often? Would people use the word “joyful” to describe you? Do you reflect God’s joy to the people around you? How could Paul have so much joy in the midst of all the challenging circumstances he was experiencing? Why is it important to be surrounded with other believers? Can they give us joy? Day 1

Do you ever try to hide things from God or other people? Do you ever act like things in your life are great?

This week, Pastor Steven Morris uses Philippians 3:1-10 from Paul’s letter to share how you can have joy and confidence in the Lord.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Morris shares a funny story about his three sons at dinnertime…

Why does Paul repeatedly write about joy? What is so great about joy? What can joy bring us?

HOW TO HAVE JOY IN THE LORD: Stand Firm vs 1-2
What do we need in order to be right with God?
In verse 2 of this week’s Scripture passage, Paul takes a dramatic turn. He goes from writing about “joy in the Lord” to “look out for the dogs”! Why did Paul write this warning?

Part 5

Do you sometimes miss the bigger picture? The Christmas season often leaves us feeling tired and unsatisfied. Let’s change that this year!

Pastor Steven Morris begins a new sermon series this week: “Amazing Grace”. It’s time to change our focus from the things in front of us and focus on the bigger picture.

Scripture Passage: Matthew 1: 1-17

Questions/Issues Discussed:

When we look at the genealogy of Jesus, we may ask “Why them?” There are a lot of imperfect people on that list! But that’s exactly the point! God didn’t send His son for “perfect people” because there are none! Jesus came because He was needed. He came because of God’s Amazing Grace.

Why did Matthew break his pattern of “so and so the father of so and so” in verse 16? In this verse, he wrote: “Joseph, the husband of Mary”. Listen as Pastor Steven explains!

Scripture References:
Romans 5:8
John 1:12

FINAL THOUGHTS:
You have the right to be in the Family of God!
Slow down and focus on the bigger picture.
Take in the beauty of God’s amazing grace.

Pastor Steven makes a great observation from Philippians 1:19. Paul isn’t just saying “this will turn out for my deliverance.” He is actually quoting Scripture! Reference: Job 13:16

He also makes a confession: He had horrible nightmares as a child. His parents encouraged him to memorize Scripture to help him when he was afraid. One verse was Psalm 56:3.

What is fighting for your focus? Work? School? Family issues? Physical, emotional, and financial issues? This week, Pastor Steven Morris uses Paul’s hardships and trials to help us stay “Focused on the Gospel

Scripture Passage: Philippians 1:12-14

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you trying to face your hard times alone? Yes, we should ALWAYS rely on God, but have you sought help from others? Why not?

As Christians, our decisions will be different than others. Pastor Steven says this: “Our focus is not meant to be representative of our circumstances.

How can you stay focused?
1. Read your bible
2. Pray pray pray
3. Exist in community

STAY FOCUSED BY SHARING THE GOSPEL

How is the world going to know Jesus if we don’t tell them? Pastor Steven says this: “Don’t allow someone’s lack of faith or other religion stop you from sharing the Gospel. Not everyone will agree with you but that shouldn’t stop you from trying.”

What is fighting for your focus? Work? School? Family issues? Physical, emotional, and financial issues? This week, Pastor Steven Morris uses Paul’s hardships and trials to help us stay “Focused on the Gospel

Scripture Passage: Philippians 1:12-14

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why did Paul urge the people of Philippi to stay focused? Did Paul know the hardships they would face?

STAY FOCUSED IN GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES

Scripture Passage: Joshua 5:13-14 and 6:1-20

Why are churches shrinking in church attendance? Are people just not interested anymore? Or are WE not being who we are called to be?

FACT: Less than 5% of Christians will ever lead someone to Christ.

Do you desire to grow physically stronger? Do you have the same desire to grow spiritually stronger?

Power and Love” is the title of Pastor Steven Morris’s sermon from Ephesians 3:14-21 this week. Listen each day as he offers some encouragement through God’s Word.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Most people have never doubted their parent’s love for them. If your parents were not in your life, or were less than great, our hearts go out to you. But… do you know how deep the love of God is for you? Don’t ever doubt it! You can never do anything so awful that He will stop loving you.

Ephesians 3:20-21 “20Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

Psalms 127:3 “Children are a gift from the Lord.”

This week, Champion Forest Baptist Church Student Pastor Steven Morris will be encouraging us, as adults and mentors, to invest in the lives in the generation coming behind us.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why should we ALL come to Jesus with the attitude and heart of a child?

John Piper says this about children: “Children display in their dependence the way into the Kingdom of God.” Do you feel like you need to “earn” God’s love and grace? Stop it! Just accept it and live for Him!

How did you come to faith in Christ? Have you shared your salvation story with your kids? You should!

Are you bringing others to a saving knowledge of Christ? Pastor Steven Morris warns us that sometimes are “inactions” are seen more than our “actions”. Don’t be an inactive Christian.
