Day 5
The new year is the perfect time to hit reset and refocus on what matters most. In this series, Pastor Jarrett Stephens has been tackling six must-answer questions about faith, salvation, prayer, and purpose that every Christian needs to consider.
This week, Pastor Jarrett offers insight into one of life’s most-often asked question: How can I know God’s will for my life?

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
Is this statement by Pastor Jarrett true? “If you are saved, surrendered to the Holy Spirit, submissive to the Word of God, and are surrounded by friends that are, do whatever you want and you will be in the will of God.”
Scriptures: Matthew 22:37; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Hebrews 11:6
Bottom Line: HOW CAN I KNOW GOD’S WILL? Ask yourself this question:
In making this decision, am I exhibiting and being motivated by a love for God, the glory of God, and faith in God?
FINAL THOUGHTS:
God will make the answer right square in the middle of the bullseye, ensuring you are right in the middle of His will. This is how you can know God’s will.

Qualifications for knowing and doing the will of God #2: You must be surrendered to the Holy Spirit.
Qualifications for knowing and doing the will of God #3: You must be submissive to the Word of God.
How can God’s Word help us know God’s will for us?

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
Qualifications for knowing and doing the will of God #1: You must be saved.
Why will only children of God desire to do God’s will? (1 Corinthians 2:14)
Why are only those who are filled with the Spirit able to discern the will of God? (2 Peter 3:9)
Should all those seeking God’s will study His Word and grow in faith? (1 Thessalonians 4:3a)
Bottom Line: Why must we be saved in order to know and do the will of God? (John 1:12-13)
Qualifications for knowing and doing the will of God #2: You must be surrendered to the Holy Spirit.
Is it possible to be saved and in a relationship with God, but not fully surrendered to Him?
NOTE: This is what old-folks call a “back slider”.
What does a “surrendered life” look like? (Galatians 2:20)
Henry Blackaby in the “Experiencing God” workbook: “The truth is, He is able to do anything He pleases with one ordinary person fully consecrated to him…Don’t just look for God to reveal His will so that you can decide whether or not to do it. Look for Him to reveal his will so that you can do it.”

What is prayer? Can prayer change US? (James 5:16)
In order for prayer to change our circumstances, must we ask first? (Matthew 7:7-8; James 4:2b-3)
Pastor Jarrett reminds us that there are some things God will do regardless of whether we pray or not. There are also some things that God will NOT do if we don’t pray. BUT we do not what things He will change or not change, so we should pray anyway! (Read that again – out loud!)
In order for prayer to change our circumstances, must we pray in accordance to Gods will? (John 14:13-14; Isaiah 55:8-9)
Pastor Jarrett shares a memory from his high school years when he asked for a haircut, but wasn’t specific about what he actually wanted. It did NOT turn out well!
In order for prayer to change our circumstances, must we be right in our relationships? (1 Peter 3:7; Psalm 66:18; John 15:7)

Is God really Omnipotent (all-powerful)? (147:5; Luke 1:37)
Is God really Immutable? Does God change His character or nature? Will He ever
change His mind? (Psalm 102:25-27; Malachi 3:6a; James 1:17; Jonah 3:4; Jonah
3:10; Numbers 23:19a; 1 Samuel 15:29; Psalm 110:4a; Jeremiah 18:7-10)

Have you ever wondered if prayer really changes God’s mind? Why should we pray if God already has our life planned out for us? Is prayer worth it? How do you feel when you pray for something specific and you don’t get the response you want? Is it hard for you to pray because you just don’t know what to say or you think you don’t have time to pray?
Is God really Omniscient (all-knowing)? (Psalm 139:1-4; Isaiah 46:9b-10)
Is God really Sovereign? Will He really accomplish His purpose in our lives? Can anything stand in God’s way? (Psalm 115:3; Job 42:2)
Is God really Omnipotent (all-powerful)? REMEMBER: Our God is so big, so strong, and so mighty. There’s nothing our God cannot do.
