Title: God’s Promise of Power Through the Holy Spirit
Topic: Promise Keeper
Discussed by Justin Holcomb
with God Made All of Me (www.GodMadeAllOfMe.com)

Day 5

Pastor Justin Holcomb concludes the summer series this week entitled: “Promise Keeper”. The focus each week will be on a different promise from God found in the Bible – both the Old and New Testaments. His sermon this week is on Acts 1:6-9 “So when they had come together, they asked him, 'Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?' He said to them, 'It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.'  And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.”

Justin Holcomb is the Student Pastor at CFBC.

Find Pastor Justin Holcomb’s sermon here.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

How did Peter “step up” and become the Christ-follower we know today? (Acts 2:14; 37-38; 41) Pastor Justin urges us to be authentic in our faith because that is what people will notice and that is what people want for themselves.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Stay close to Jesus and keep gathering with other believers.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

Title: God’s Promise of Peace
Topic: Promise Keeper

with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 1

Pastor Steven Morris continues the summer series this week entitled: “Promise Keeper”. The focus each week will be on a different promise from God found in the Bible – both the Old and New Testaments. His sermon this week is on Philippians 4:6-9 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”

Pastor Steven Morris is the lead pastor at the North Klein campus of CFBC.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

What would make your life better? If someone made a promise to you, what would you want that promise to be?

How could PEACE make your life better, specifically the peace that comes only from God? Pastor Steven discusses some shocking statistics about worry and anxiousness among teenagers and recommends the book: “The Anxious Generation”.

Why don’t people answer “peaceful” when asked how their day/life is going? We should – especially Christians! We have the peace of God in our lives always – even when we don’t understand what is happening!

Discussed by Pastor Averri LeMalle
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

Pastor Averri LeMalle continues the summer series this week entitled: “Promise Keeper”. The focus each week will be on a different promise from God found in the Bible – both the Old and New Testaments. His sermon this week is on Isaiah 40:31 “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Pastor Averri LeMalle is the Lead Pastor at the Jersey Village CFBC Campus.

Find Pastor Averri LeMalle’s sermon here.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Is the storm you’re facing overwhelming? Does the rain seem to be coming down on you on all sides? (Exodus 19:4) Yesterday, Pastor Averri shared some encouragement through a story about his daughter’s high school graduation. Today, he reminds us that every day is sweeter than the day before. As we are waiting, we can have confidence that God is working!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Why should we wait on God? Because He has been waiting on us! Even when your circumstances don’t change, God changes you in your circumstance. And just because He is silent in the moment, that doesn’t mean He isn’t present in your life.

Encouraging Scripture to meditate on this week: Lamentation 3:25; Psalm 27:14; Psalm 40:1

with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

Pastor Jarrett Stephens continues his summer series this week entitled: “Promise Keeper”. The focus each week will be on a different promise from God found in the Bible – both the Old and New Testaments. His sermon this week is on Romans 8:1 “There is, therefore, now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Find Pastor Jarrett Stephens’ sermon here.

Find Pastor Jarrett Stephens’ sermon notes here.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

OUR FUTU
RE

British New Testament scholar and retired Anglican Bishop N.T. Wright once stated: “The Greek word nyn ‘now’ is important here. There is therefore now no condemnation. This is both logical (now therefore) and temporal (in the present time). The future verdict can be announced in the present, because the Messiah has dealt with his people’s sins, and the spirit indwells them to bring them to resurrection.”

Why did Paul bookend Romans 8 with “no condemnation” with “no separation”? (Romans 8:31-39)

FINAL THOUGHTS:

No separation” is possible because “no condemnation” is a reality. It’s a promise that we can claim and cling to from now until the day we stand before God.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

OUR PRESENT

FUN FACT: The phrase “in Christ” appears 119 times in Paul’s letters. This is 119 promises to claim!

How are we united “in Christ”? (Romans 3:24; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 3:26; Ephesians 2:13)

What sins cause you guilt? What do you wish you could stop doing but just can’t seem to stop? Pastor Jarrett challenges everyone to write down our sins in our Bible (YES IN OUR BIBLE) and then write the words “no condemnation” next to it! Listen as he explains why we must reject condemnation.

Why is Satan called the “accuser of the brethren”? (Revelation 12:10)

*** What is the difference between condemnation and conviction? Pastor Jarrett shares a great graphic, which can be found around the 1-hour mark at the link above.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

OUR PAST

What if all of your impure thoughts, bad words spoken, selfish motives, and immoral acts were on display for all to see? Would you cringe and hide in fear of judgement? Remember: God knows ALL you have done and STILL loves you and He will NEVER stop loving you!

What is the only thing stopping God from condemning us all? (Romans 5:8-9; 18-19; Romans 6:22-23; Romans 7:25; Romans 8:1)

Eugene Peterson in his Message translation refers to “condemnation” as “a continuous, low lying black cloud” that is over our lives.

OUR PRESENT

There are two present realities we can cling to when remembering our salvation in Christ:
We are free from the law of sin. (Romans 8:2)
We are free to live by the Spirit. (Romans 8:3-4)

FUN FACT: The phrase “in Christ” appears 119 times in Paul’s letters.
