Scripture Passage: Philippians 1:12-14

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why did Paul urge the people of Philippi to stay focused? Did Paul know the hardships they would face?

STAY FOCUSED IN GOOD TIMES AND BAD TIMES

Why is it so easy to stay focused when things are going great, but not when things are tough? Have you ever asked God “Why???” We all have! The key is to stay focused on the Gospel! Pastor Morris shares a touching story about a first-time visitor to CFBC. Trent is homeless, but someone took time to focus on him! Did Paul view his imprisonment as an opportunity to share the Gospel?

Pastor Steven shares another wonderful story about salvation. A home-bound woman was disappointed that she wasn’t able to share God’s love with others. God sent a neighbor into her life. Not only was that woman saved through her testimony, her neighbor’s son was saved as well! But wait! The story gets even better. Listen to hear the rest of this amazing salvation story!!!

Title: A Life Worthy of the Gospel
Topic: Rhythms of Gratitude
Discussed by Alec Brunson
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Part 5

Are you living a life worthy of the Gospel?

This week, Pastor Alec Brunson offers encouragement and guidance to help us be more Gospel-centered.

Scripture Passage: Philippians 1:27-30

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you suffering for the sake of Jesus? Why did Paul compare suffering for Christ to a gift? Aren’t these opposites??

Biblical Commentator Matthew Henry once stated: “If Christianity is worth anything, it is worth everything.” Amen!

Another Biblical Commentator, Jason Meyer, said this of persecution: “God writes a persecution story for His church so that mankind will be pointed back to the greatest story: the death and resurrection of Christ.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Live a life worthy of the Gospel alone.
Defend the Gospel with your life.

Scripture Passage: Philippians 1:27-30

Questions/Issues Discussed:

How is the world opposed to Gospel?

The exclusivity of the Gospel (Jesus is the only way) is not popular

Call to obedience of the Gospel (they don’t want to give up their “things” or their lifestyle)

How has the Gospel changed you?

Are you confident and bold in your faith?

FACING OPPOSITION AND HOW TO RESPOND

Pastor Alec has three imaginary scenarios that most people can relate to…

Are you linking arms with other believers? Listen as Pastor Alec uses a football team as an example of a group of people who are united… Do you truly believe that God can unify believers in your church? Community? Our nation? The world? He can and He will! Let’s start unifying together now!

A LIFE WORTHY OF THE GOSPEL IS NOT AFRAID

Pastor Alec warns: “Be firm in your faith, but don’t beat the Gospel into them!” What does opposition look like today compared to the opposition Paul and the Philippians faced? How is the world opposed to Gospel? More on this tomorrow!

Are you living a life worthy of the Gospel?

This week, Pastor Alec Brunson offers encouragement and guidance to help us be more Gospel-centered.

Scripture Passage: Philippians 1:27-30

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What does “worthy” mean?

Does every area of your life reflect and promote what God has done to save you through Jesus?

What does “citizenship” mean? Where is your true citizenship?

Pastor Alec urges you to ponder this question: “Does what you are doing fit the weight and worth of what God has done for you in Christ?” Ouch! Maybe not so much all the time…

Theologian DA Carson once stated: “Conduct worthy of the Gospel is above all conduct that promotes the Gospel.”

Part 1

Are you living a life worthy of the Gospel?

This week, Pastor Alec Brunson offers encouragement and guidance to help us be more Gospel-centered.

Scripture Passage: Philippians 1:27-30

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What does the Gospel mean? The Good News!

What is the good news? What God has done to save sinners through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Scripture References: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 1:16

Many people seem confused by the verbiage used in this week’s Scripture Passage in Philippians. Pastor Alec agrees! So, what was Paul trying to convey to the people?

Interesting Biblical Fact: This is the first time that Paul told the Philippians what to do. Tune in tomorrow to find out why this is significant!

Title: Purpose
Topic: Rhythms of Gratitude
Discussed by Pastor Steven Morris
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Part 4

Before you do something, do you need to know the “why” behind the “what”? In other words, do you need to know the purpose? Pastor Steven Morris believes God put this desire to know our purpose in our hearts for a reason.

Are you sometimes afraid to share your purpose with others? Paul was, too, but he kept fulfilling his purpose! How did he do this? Where was Paul’s trust and dedication?

Scripture Passage: Philippians 1:18-26

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you passionate about something or someone? Do you talk about it all the time? Why not Jesus???

FOCUS ON THE BIGGER PICTURE

Are you too focused on work, school, sports, social status, clothes, or hobbies?

You can’t fulfill your purpose if you’re not focused on Christ.

HONOR CHRIST WITH YOUR LIFE

If you haven’t given your life to Christ, don’t wait! Questions/Issues Discussed:

Tim Keller,  pastor and author, was once asked this question: “What would you tell your 18 year old self?” Listen to find out what he said!!

Why is trust and dependence on the Holy Spirit important?

Pastor Steven makes a great observation from Philippians 1:19. Paul isn’t just saying “this will turn out for my deliverance.” He is actually quoting Scripture! Reference: Job 13:16

He also makes a confession: He had horrible nightmares as a child. His parents encouraged him to memorize Scripture to help him when he was afraid. One verse was Psalm 56:3.

MEMORIZE SCRIPTURE Have you memorized Scripture? If not, why not? You memorize songs and sports stats… Why not Scripture? Isn’t that more important?
