Scripture Passage: 1 Peter 3:13-17 (focusing on verse 15)

Questions/Issues Discussed:

This week’s sermon was presented on Father’s Day, so Pastor Fleming offers some “fatherly advice”. Remember: The home is the primary mission field. Parents are the primary evangelists. Dads are the first leaders.

But…why daddy?” Have you ever heard that? “Because I said so!” I bet you’ve responded with that more than once!

What is an apologist? Are do’s and don’ts enough? Why are boundaries necessary? Bottom line: Why should every Christian have a defense ready for their faith?

Title: Who’s Your One… “Needy Friend”?
Topic: Who’s Your One?
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

The pastors of Champion Forest Baptist Church are continuing with the series “Who’s Your One”. This week, Pastor Fleming wants you to focus on your “needy friend”. Not the one who needs you – but the one who needs Jesus!

WHAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO SHARE JESUS WITH YOUR NEEDY FRIEND:
Compassion + Conviction = Connection Yes, it’s that simple!

Scripture passage for this week: Mark 2

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming throws this out in today’s segment: “We religious people ought to be careful not to keep truly needy people from Jesus.” Ouch! Let that one sink in!

The paralyzed man and those with him went to great lengths to see Jesus. It wasn’t easy to raise him up on the roof and tear it away to let him down! Why were they so desperate?

Do you care more about your reputation or their salvation? Warning: Don’t be rude, though! Prayer still works!!

This week’s assignment: PRAY for your “one” and LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITIES to share the Gospel with your “one”.

NOTE: June 9 is “Friendship Sunday” at all four campuses of Champion Forest Baptist Church. It’s the perfect time to bring your one to church – no matter where you attend!

Do your actions support your convictions? Or, is your silence evidence of a lack of belief? Do you really believe what you’re telling others about Jesus? If you really believe it, then tell it!!!

What did Jesus really care about? Did he care about money or power or worldly things? NOPE! He cared about the person’s eternity!

How can you use compassion and conviction to connect with your “one”? Pastor Fleming shares a story about a member of his church who showed up at his house in her nightgown! Yikes!

After Jesus healed the spiritual and physical needs of the paralyzed man in Mark 2, how did he connect with him? Did the others follow suit? Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming concludes this week’s sermon.

WHAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO SHARE JESUS WITH YOUR NEEDY FRIEND:
Compassion + Conviction = Connection Yes, it’s that simple!

Scripture passage for this week: Mark 2

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming shares how a member of the church recently called him late on a Saturday night and needed prayer… Grab the tissues! This is a tear-jerker!

When was the last time you cried because someone you know and love rejects you and your passion for Christ?

What does conviction mean? Is it more than just caring for someone or something? Is it more than just having a passion for or about something? Or, is it belief – true belief and faith? Pastor Fleming says this: “Belief is easily expressed, but harder to exercise.

WHAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO SHARE JESUS WITH YOUR NEEDY FRIEND: Compassion + Conviction = Connection Yes, it’s that simple!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Listen as Pastor Fleming shares how Stephanie Chase, the Children’s Minister at CFBC, was able to lead her “one” to the Lord a few weeks ago! Praise the Lord!

But… you may be thinking: “I’m not a pastor or minister or leader! I can’t do that!” YES, YOU CAN!

To help you gain the confidence to share the Gospel with your “one”, Pastor Fleming says you must first answer these two questions:
1. What do you really care deeply about?
2. Is that what God really cares deeply about?

People interrupted Jesus all the time. What was his reaction? Did he judge the person? Did he get upset? Or did he have compassion and love for the person? Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming continues sharing this story from Mark 2…

What if your “one” is in your own home?

Scripture Reference: 2 Timothy 1:1-8

Questions/Issues Discussed:

HABITS FOR REACHING YOUR OWN HOME/FAMILY:
4. CONNECT your children to godly influence.
Parents: What are you doing with your kids on Sundays? Are you at the ballfield Sunday after Sunday? Or are you in the church pews? Think about it! Which is more important?

5. PERSEVERE – never, ever give up parents!
Your kids will ALWAYS need you! “Parenting is for life. It’s a life sentence,” Pastor Fleming remarks.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

HABITS FOR REACHING YOUR OWN HOME/FAMILY:
(Listen to Tuesday’s segment for the first two)
3. TEACH them God’s Word and talk about it often.
Does this need to be complicated or profound? “The living room is the best classroom our children will ever sit in,” Pastor Fleming says. “The kitchen table is your platform and your pulpit.” YES!

How often do you go to God first before you go to social media?

4. CONNECT your children to godly influence.
Why is church attendance so important? Pastor Fleming reminds us: “We become like those we connect with. Don’t let them connect to the wrong people.

Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming offers a controversial suggestion to parents…. He might just step on some toes!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Where is your mission field?

HABITS FOR REACHING YOUR OWN HOME/FAMILY:
1. PRAY for them!
Is prayer still powerful – especially the prayers of our mamas? “The work of evangelism is prayer before the evangelism can work,” Pastor Fleming observes.

2. MODEL a Christ-like life and love for them.
Do you expect perfection? Should you instead expect sincerity?

Why do we hide our failures, even from our own family?

Why is it so hard to reach those we are closest to?

Where is your mission field?

Day 2

Special Mother’s Day Sermon!

What if your “one” is in your own home?

Scripture Reference: 2 Timothy 1:1-8

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Susanna Wesley spent one hour each day praying for her children. She also spent one hour of quality time with each child per week. Susanna Wesley’s “Rules for Mothering”:
1. Work with God to see that your children are saved.
2. Teach them to cry softly. With 17 kids – this one was important!
3. Teach them to pray as soon as he can speak.
4. Give him nothing he cries for and only what is good for him if he asks for it politely.
5. To prevent lying, punish no fault that is freely confessed, but never allow a sinful act to go unnoticed.
6. Commend and reward good behavior.
7. Strictly observe all promises you made to your child.

Day 5

The pastors of Champion Forest Baptist Church are beginning a new series: Who’s Your One? Do you know someone who needs Jesus? Have you prayed for them lately? This series is going to equip you with the knowledge and the tools you need to share the Gospel with “your one”.

Scripture Passage: Acts 1:1-11

Questions/Issues Discussed:

How do we start changing the world?
1. Pick your ONE
2. Pray for your ONE
3. Read scripture over your ONE
4. Write your testimony and share it with your ONE
5. Send your ONE a text or a note or call them just to say hi and that you’re praying for him/her.

As you pray for your one this week, ask God to remove any barriers in your own life that are keeping you from sharing Jesus with others.

We have all that we need to be who we are called to be to change the world. (Acts 1:9-11)

Why are churches shrinking in church attendance? Are people just not interested anymore? Or are WE not being who we are called to be?

FACT: Less than 5% of Christians will ever lead someone to Christ.

FACT: Less than 15% of Christians will ever invite someone to church.

Let’s change these stats!

Challenge: Pray for someone RIGHT NOW that needs to be at church with you!

We have all that we need. (Acts 1:1-5)
Do you ever feel nervous when you share the Gospel? We all do – even pastors!
Why don’t you just rely on God to help you? Because it’s hard!
Do you use excuses to not share the Gospel? “I’m not smart enough.” “I’m not a pastor.” “I’m not qualified.” STOP!

We have all that we need to be who we are called to be. (Acts 1:6-8)
What is a witness?
Are we ALL witnesses for Jesus?
What did the disciples witness – both before and after Jesus’s death and resurrection? (Acts 4:20)
