Title: ONE MORE
Topic: Fight for What Matters Most
Discussed by Pastor Jarrett Stephens
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Day 5
DOES IT BOTHER YOU TO KNOW THAT AS YOU DRIVE FROM YOUR HOUSE TO CHURCH ON A SUNDAY MORNING, THERE ARE HUNDREDS – IF NOT THOUSANDS – OF PEOPLE WHO ARE LOST AND MAYBE NEVER EVEN HEARD THE NAME OF JESUS WHO ARE SLEEPING IN THEIR BEDS, WORKING, OR AT THE BALL FIELD? WHAT CAN YOU DO TO REACH AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE LOST SOULS?
PLEASE NOTE: This sermon was preached on May 24, 2026 – Memorial Day Weekend.
This week, Pastor Jarrett Stephens continues in the FIGHT series, reminding us that lost souls still matter. In fact, they should be our number one goal!

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
Pastor Jarrett begins this final segment this week with a story about Rosaria Butterfield, a former tenured professor of English and women’s studies at Syracuse University. Her memoir is entitled:
“The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert: An English Professor’s Journey into Christian Faith”.
FIGHT FOR THE LOST SOUL BY PLEADING WITH THEM
This isn’t desperation. This isn’t even being “pushy”. There is an urgency because lost people are in a state of destruction! (2 Corinthians 5:20; Jude 23)
NOTE: Hymn “Rescue the Perishing” by Fanny Crosby
FINAL THOUGHTS
Commit to doing everything it takes to bring ONE MORE to Jesus.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
FIGHT FOR THE LOST SOUL BY PRAYING
Pray for that person by name.
Pray that they will have a soft heart.
Pray that the Holy Spirit will draw that person to God. (John 6:4)
Pray for God to get their attention.
Pray for your role in the process. Corrie ten Boom stated:
“We never know how God will answer our prayers, but we can expect that He will get us involved in His plan for the answer.”
Pray for revelation.
REMEMBER: Never, ever, ever give up! Pastor Jarrett tells his brother’s story…
FIGHT FOR THE LOST SOUL BY PLANTING SEEDS
What is the purpose of a seed in a field? Does a farmer plant it and then leave it alone? Or does he plant and cultivate?
Are you trying too hard to “clean the fish before you catch it”?
Curious? Listen as Pastor Jarrett explains…

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why did Jesus preach that God, his father, actually searched for sinners? Why did Jesus stress the importance of searching for the ONE?
Commentator, William Barclay stated: “No Pharisee had ever dreamed of a God like that. This is the one absolutely new thing which Jesus taught about God – that he actually searched for us. A Jew might have agreed that those who came crawling home to God in self-abasement might find pity, but he would never have conceived of a God who went out to search for sinners.”
Who is ONE person you can be praying for? Who has God placed on your heart? (John 20:21; Matthew 28:19; Acts 1:8)
FIGHT FOR THE LOST SOUL BY PRAYING
Remember: We cannot “save” anyone. Only God can. (2 Corinthians 4:4)
Pray for that person by name.
Pray that they will have a soft heart.
Pray that the Holy Spirit will draw that person to God. (John 6:4)
Tune in tomorrow for more ways to pray.

Have you ever really thought about what will happen to those who are lost? (Revelation 21:8; 2 Peter 3:9)
Pastor Jarrett passionately reminds us that Jesus WILL come back one day, but he is waiting until more and more souls are saved.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why does the Bible call the Christian life a “struggle”?
Are we called to be “good soldiers”? FACT: 3 billion people have no church, no Bible, or even heard the name of Jesus!
Where is our mission field? Are we all called to travel across the globe – or can we minister to people in our own backyard?
Pastor Jarrett remembers how he felt before the first sermon he preached at the age of 17 and then his first sermon at Dallas Baptist at the age of 29.
Why do lost souls matter so much to God? (Luke 19:10; John 3:16)

Title: FIGHT TO THE FINISH

Day 5
HOW ARE YOU RUNNING THE RACE OF LIFE? ARE YOU COASTING ALONG – WAITING TO SEE WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING? OR ARE YOU RUNNING THE RACE AS IF YOUR LIFE – AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS – DEPENDS ON IT?
This week, Pastor Jarrett Stephens concludes the FIGHT sermon series, reminding us that starting well is important, but we must also finish well – and finish strong.
Scripture Passage: 2 Timothy 4:6-8

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
HOW TO FINISH STRONG: Don’t be surprised by life’s challenges.
How do you respond to tough situations?
Did God ever promise that the Christian life would be all sunshine and rainbows?
In Paul’s day, why would priests pour out the wine? What is the metaphor for this? Does it still apply to us today? (vs 6) Super interesting! Listen closely,,,
HOW TO FINISH STRONG: Remember that people are watching you.
Why does Pastor Jarrett carry a framed picture of his wife and daughters with him when he travels?
Remember: Paul wrote this letter to Timothy out of concern for the people in the church who were watching him (Timothy).
FINAL THOUGHTS
Live in such a way that when you breathe your last breath, you can say with the apostle Paul:
“I have fought a good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.”

BELIEVERS LIVE WITH JESUS AS THE HERO OF THEIR LIFE
Is it ok to have a “hero”?
Who are you worshipping?
What is our responsible toward our family, friends, and community? Daniel gently urges us to help our church reach the lost at every opportunity. After all, it’s not our pastor’s job to do that! He is there to shepherd and guide us to do what God has called us to do.
FINAL THOUGHTS

BELIEVERS ARE BUILT UP BY THE WORD OF GOD
WHAT IS YOUR EXCUSE FOR NOT READING THE BIBLE ON A REGULAR, DAILY BASIS?
Is it easy to be tempted to come to church on Sunday and then live like the world Monday thru Saturday?
Daniel has a great illustration to explain why this is not good for our walk with Christ.
How often should we read the Bible? Is there a right or wrong way to do this?
How can the Word of God help us keep our calm in tough situations? Daniel tells a personal story of a time he really didn’t feel like acting like Jesus…
Is the Word of God the best defense against the world?

BELIEVERS ARE BUILDERS
Is Paul talking about physical strength or spiritual strength?
What was Paul’s “thorn in the flesh”?
Is God’s grace really sufficient for us? Do we really gain power and strength through God and the Holy Spirit?
Daniel offers some encouragement to those who are worn down and feel defeated. Remember: We are weak, but He is strong!
Are we commanded to also build up others? How can we do that?
Is it important to ask for help when we need it? Daniel shares a funny story about the time he put together an Ikea baby changing table/dresser for his daughter.
Can we gain blessings and grow our own faith when we invest in building up others?
BELIEVERS ARE BUILT UP BY THE WORD OF GOD
Why is it so vital to our faith that we study the Bible – really, really study the Bible and not just “read” it?
Daniel says: “The Word of God is meant to grant us both endurance and encouragement for us to navigate this life.”

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:
FIGHT FOR TRUTH: GUARD YOUR MIND
Remember: The Armor of God (Ephesians 6:17; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
Will a depraved mind lead to a depraved life? (Romans 1:18-28)
Think about this: If the mind is the gateway to life, what is the gateway to the mind? Your eyes! See Matthew 6:22-23.
FIGHT FOR TRUTH: TRAIN YOUR MIND
How can we prepare our minds with the truth in order to fight the enemy? (1 Peter 1:13)
Pastor Jarrett uses MMA as an example…
Did Jesus make it a habit to spend time with God?
Does our life really hang in the balance if we don’t live by the Truth? (Romans 8:5-6)
FINAL THOUGHTS
Keep fighting for the truth. It matters. After all: “The battlefield for your life is in your mind. If Satan can win the war in your mind, he has you beat.”

Day 5
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TEMPTED? WOW! WHAT A COINCIDENCE! ME, TOO! HOW HAVE YOU HANDLED TEMPTATION IN THE PAST? I KNOW IT’S BEEN HARD FOR ME!
This week, Pastor Steven Morris helps us understand why we are tempted and teaches us how to resist it using Matthew 4 – the record of the time Jesus was tempted. After all – Jesus is the ultimate example for us to follow, right?

Know your own heart. Know what tempts you. Look at that sin through new eyes – as a child of God.
Don’t try to fight temptation on your own. Trust Jesus and the Word of God to help you.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
LESSON #3: Remember that You are a Child of God
Summer is coming. How can we keep our kids and grandkids in the Word all summer long?
Did the devil know that Jesus was the son of God? Is that why he tempted Jesus so often?
Can we run from temptation without running to God? Have you ever tried simply bowing at the throne of God for help to flee temptation? (Hebrews 4:15)
HOW TO FIGHT TEMPTATION
Prepare beforehand and make specific covenants before God. (Job 31)
Tune in tomorrow for more suggestions from Pastor Steven.

How can we stand firm in our faith? If we falter, is that failure? (Mark 8:36; 1 Peter 5:8-9)
LESSON #1: The Devil Will Tempt You
Pastor Steven knows this is a little redundant, but we MUST recognize this fact and act on it.
How is temptation a little like fishing?
Does the devil know what we like and then use that to tempt us? (1 Corinthians 10:13)
LESSON #2: Fight Temptation with Truth
Is it often hard to spot the temptation that the devil is dangling in front of us?
What was Jesus’ response every single time he was tempted?
Can knowing God’s Word really help us resist temptation? (Psalm 119:11)

Does the devil distort and twist the Word of God? Does he do everything he can do to keep us from knowing the Truth – including using others to speak lies to us and to the world?
Are “simple, little distractions” really just simple and little? (Deuteronomy 6)
Pastor Steven encourages us to NOT reach for our cell phone first thing in the morning, but instead reach for our Bible.
How often do you feel tempted? Will the devil ever stop tempting us?

What is the devil’s goal for your life? What is the Savior’s goal for your life? The difference is astounding!
Is temptation really that serious?
Why did Satan ask Jesus if he was really the son of God? (Matthew 3:17)
In what other ways did Satan tempt Jesus?
How did Jesus resist Satan? What was his first reaction and response? (Deuteronomy 8:3)
