Title: Why is the Homeless Population Exploding in America?
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Dr. Currie Myers
with Dr. Currie Myers (Substack.com/@DrCurrieMyers)
The homeless population in America is growing larger and larger by
the day. What is the solution?
Dr. Myers is known as “America’s Criminologist”. He is an applied
criminologist, academician, author, consultant, and retired sheriff of Johnson
County, Kansas. Dr. Myers is also on faculty in the criminology department at
Benedictine College and is a public safety adviser for
Americans for Prosperity.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Are the majority of homeless people simply those who have lost their jobs or are
there other issues at hand, such as drug and alcohol addiction or mental
illness? Dr. Myers points out that when California legalized the use of
hard-core drugs, their homeless population shot through the roof and continues
to climb. He also explains that many in the homeless community refuse treatment
for the mental health problems and therefore wind up living on the streets.
Are areas with a high homeless population more prone to crime and disease?

Title: Reevaluating Austin’s Homelessness Strategy
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by John Bonura
with Texas Public Policy Foundation (www.TexasPolicy.com)
The Austin City Council recently reviewed photos taken inside
housing units, which revealed “housing units strewn with drugs and drug
paraphernalia throughout trashed rooms, a gun, and employees asleep on the job.”
New guest, John Bonura, is a Policy Scholar with the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Today, John discusses the out-of-control homeless problem in Austin.
Click

The Cannon, an online publication of the
Texas Public Policy Foundation.
Click here to read more from John Bonura on this and other issues.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
How much have the taxpayers spent on the homelessness problem Austin?
What are some of the major causes of homelessness in major cities across the nation, including Austin?
Where does all the money allocated for “solving homelessness” go? Why is the federal government so focused on housing only, ignoring the mental health and addiction problems?
The California legislature is considering overriding local codes and zoning ordinances to allow churches and other non-profits to erect low-income housing units on their parking lots and other parts of their vacant land. Is this simply an extension to the failed national government’s policy of Housing First?
What are some reasonable solutions – both locally and nationally?

Title: New Strategies to Helping the Homeless
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Michele Steeb

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why is the Left dead wrong about what homeless people really need? What is the
Left’s solution to the growing homeless problem? Michele explains why the Left’s
plan of a “house for everyone” is absolutely not the right solution.
What essential services are denied to the homeless due to misguided US policy?
Has Housing and Urban Development (HUD) stopped all funding for these essential
needs, moving all money to housing?
What does HUD require of communities in order to receive funding? Does
HUD rely
heavily on the homeless to “self-report”? How is that working? Click
here for the “point-in-time count”
from HUD.
If an organization receives federal funding, are they permitted to offer the
homeless any type of assistance for essential needs such as food, clothing, or
medical attention?

Title: NYC Mayor: Involuntarily Commit the Homeless
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Michael Letts
with IN-Vest USA (WWW.investusa.org/)
The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, recently announced that the NYPD will begin taking the homeless in for psychiatric evaluations and possible involuntary commitment to hospitals.
Michael Letts is the Founder, CEO, and President of IN-Vest USA. Today, Michael offers his personal opinion on this new directive.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Does the City of New York have the authority detain and involuntarily commit a homeless person to a psychiatric hospital? Michael explains that unless there is probable cause, it is absolutely unconstitutional.
Is the public demanding that the police crackdown on the homeless situation in NYC?
Are police officers trained to determine whether or not a homeless person will become violent? Michael says: “That’s ludicrous. It doesn’t work that way.”
Is this the beginning of a slippery slope – where the ruling class wants to rule over the underclass? Michael believes we are already there – almost to the finish line.

Title: Addressing Homelessness by Putting People First
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Michele Steeb
with Michele Steeb (www.michelesteeb.com/)
The US government’s Housing First approach discourages behavior change and no
longer funds the treatment the homeless need to address their underlying
struggles. What’s more, it ensures that nearly everyone who enters the
homelessness system stays in it, as they are provided subsidized housing for
life, without any expectation of healing and work – ever.
The Texas Public Policy Foundation is dedicated to helping ALL Texans,
including those displaced on the streets. Their approach is to put people first,

Why does the TPPF encourage a “people first” approach? How does this approach
address the root cause of homelessness?
Are good intentions (such as a few dollars or a care bag) actually damaging to
those living on the streets? Michele explains that it can help in the

he helped found.
What percent are female? What percent are male?
What percent are family units with minor children?

Does giving the ‘street person’ five dollars, a raincoat, or a blanket really help them long-term? “Human connection is very, very important,” she says, so that can be helpful in the short-term. However, most homeless people struggle with mental or health problems and hose are the issues that need to be addressed.

Title: Republicans can Lead on Mental Health Treatment
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Bruce Chapman
with Discovery Institute (www.discovery.org)
Part 1 of 2
Tucked away in the gun law Biden just signed is a provision increasing funding for preventive outpatient treatment for mental illness. This is an important step toward solving America’s mental-health crisis but only part of what’s needed. Happily, help may be on the way if Republicans take back Congress in November.
Bruce Campbell is the co-founder of the Discovery Institute and current Chairman of the Board. Today Bruce discusses rising crime and suicide rates, which can be directly connected to the rise in homelessness across the nation. He says: “America needs leaders who will boldly tackle some of its unrelenting problems.”
Click

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Do a variety of unrelenting problems plaguing America correlate with mental illness? Terry and Bruce discuss homelessness, crime, and rising suicide rates. Bruce also reveals that nearly 50% of the homeless are mentally ill or drug addicted or both.
How have liberals treated the mentally ill since the 1960’s? Can some of the problems be traced back to the introduction of Medicaid and “community-based facilities”? Bruce explains what community-based facilities are and what they are allowed and not allowed to do to help the homeless.
Are streets, emergency rooms, and jails the new “asylum”?
Does providing housing and/or a meal actually treat the root cause of mental illness?

There are far too many people (both individuals and families) who are homeless in America. Some even call it an epidemic. What can be done? Can we fix it? What is the role Christians should take on this issue?

California spends an outrageous amount of money attempting to curb homelessness. How many people are homeless in California, especially San Francisco?
What is “biblically based anthropology”? Should this be the Christian starting point on this issue?
Is there a difference between compassion and legitimizing self-destructive behaviors? Derryck say this: “We have to address the problem putting their needs as humans first. They (progressives) have redefined this understanding of compassion in which they have allowed people who are living on the streets to slowly destroy what remains of their dignity.”

Title: The Truth About the Cause of Homelessness in America.
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Andrew Brown
with Texas Public Policy Foundation (www.TexasPolicy.com)
Part 1 of 4
NOTE: This interview was taped before the Coronavirus basically shut down America. If you are worried about the future due to loss of income, please do not take offense to the information shared in this interview. We are only trying to help you and others who have suddenly been thrust into a situation we, as the Body of Christ and as a nation, could never have foreseen. God, however, knew this would happen. God knew what our nation – what our world – would be faced with. God is in control. Keep trusting Him.
A
new study
show that homelessness is “deeply connected to addiction, mental illness, and crime.” In addition, “Housing First policies that don’t address these [issues] can’t solve the problem.”
Andrew Brown is the Director of the Center for Families and Children at the
Texas Public Policy Foundation. The TPPF’s response to this study is: “Focusing on Housing First (as Austin does), without addressing addiction, mental illness and other causes of homelessness, is doomed to fail.”
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Is homelessness in America really connected to addiction, mental illness, and crime? Andrew shares a personal story of a homeless man he met in Austin…

our communities? Andrew discusses one group, “Community First Village”,
and the work they are doing in Austin.
Andrew closes with: “It’s not government that’s going to get us through
this. It’s the strength of our churches and the strength of our civic

Title: Homelessness: Does the Government Help or Hinder?
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Dr. Vance Ginn
with Texas Public Policy Foundation (www.TexasPolicy.com)
Part 1 of 2
Voters in San Francisco will soon decide whether to tax employers to help the homeless.
Seattle tried this and quickly abandoned the practice.
The Associated Press reports: “Proposition C would tax hundreds of San Francisco's wealthiest companies to help thousands of homeless and mentally ill residents, an effort that failed earlier this year in Seattle. San Francisco's measure is expected to raise $300 million a year, nearly doubling what the city already spends.”
Vance Ginn, Ph.D., is the Director of the Center for Economic Prosperity and a Senior Economist at the
Texas Public Policy Foundation. He has a passion to help people understand how government policies affect them.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Who are the homeless?
What are the reasons people become homeless?
Do many homeless have alcohol and drug addictions?
How much money, on average, does a homeless person make per day?
Homeless shelters have harsh regulations and restrictions for various reasons. Why?

Title: Part 2 of 2 - Homelessness: Does the Government Help or Hinder?
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Dr. Vance Ginn
with Texas Public Policy Foundation (www.TexasPolicy.com)
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why does San Francisco believe they can successfully raise taxes to help the
homeless, even after Seattle’s failed experiment?
Does the government do more harm than good when it comes to helping the homeless
population?
Can churches, shelters, and non-profits really help the homeless without
government assistance? Are these organizations more successful than the
government?
Why does the government often hinder non-profits and other organizations who
desire to help the homeless?

Title: Homelessness and the A.D.M Syndrome!
Topic: Homelessness
Discussed by Dr. Tracy Miller
with Center for Vision and Values (www.VisionAndValues.org)
Is homelessness like any other social problem? Are the more tax payer dollars dedicated to try to eradicate it result in a greater problem? Or the more dollars that flow into trying to reduce homelessness do taxpayers end up with more and more - with more bureaucrats crying for and demanding more money?
Is there evidence that government-provided shelter has in any way solved or even reduced the problem of homelessness? Are private and religious-based programs more successful in assisting the homeless person or family? Is A. D. M (alcohol, drug abuse and mental illness) the major cause of homelessness? Do the majority of homeless individuals choose to live on the street?
