QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED

REVERE GOD’S AUTHORITY

Why did Paul believe that actions speak louder than words?

What do YOUR private conversations reflect? Do they praise God or the world?

Commentary: “Persuasion is man’s means of moving his fellow man. God’s means is demonstration, leaving no doubt, and inspiring implicit faith by the powerful working of the Spirit.”

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Live your life in a way that others know God is number one.

Remember that God is the anchor that keeps us from drifting away.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

RELY ON THE CROSS

What was Paul’s one desire? Pastor Emory says: “He had a simple message that had a profound impact.” Why didn’t Paul focus his message on his own testimony? It was a doozy, after all!

RENOUNCE THE WORLD

Why did Paul tell the people to let go of the things of the world? (Proverbs 8:26)

Why wasn’t Paul concerned with winning peoples’ approval? Pastor Emory offers us hope and encouragement as we navigate this tough issue…

Why should we worship? Where should we worship? Is there a right way to worship? Is corporate worship the only way to worship God? Do you ever put worship in a box? Are you worshipping anything or anyone else other than God?

Pastor Emory Cothen continues the summer sermon series “Summer in the Psalms” with Psalm 100. Their hope is that your life will be impacted and transformed by the truths found in some of the most beloved Psalms.

Pastor Emory Cothen is the Young Adult’s Pastor at the main Champion Forest Baptist Church campus.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

So why do we worship God? We know we are commanded to, but “why”? (Psalm 100:5; Isaiah 6:3)

What are you passionate about? If your passion was blasted on a TV screen, what would it show? Would it show a picture of Jesus or something else? OUCH! (Matthew 15:8)

How long should we worship God? QUOTE: Charles Spurgeon: “So long as we are receivers of mercy, we must be givers of thanks.”

Should older generations be encouraging younger generations to worship God with their whole lives?

Pastor Cother says: “We praise God with our whole life, because anything less than that is not an adequate response to His goodness.”

Why should our worship be reserved only for God? (Mark 10:18; Psalm 8:3)

How has God redeemed us to worship Him alone? (2 Corinthians 5:17)

SOMETHING TO PONDER: Are you living a life of worship? Can others see a difference in your life? Can your family see a difference? When was the last time you shared the Gospel with a stranger?

How can we follow God through our worship? Pastor Cothen reminds us that we are all sheep and need a Shepherd.

Why should we be joyful when we worship?

Are you just “showing up” for church every Sunday? Are just going through the motions? (Matthew 6:21)

Is worship reserved only for God? (Exodus 20:4)  QUOTE: John Lin: “He is to be the exclusive object of our worship, the ultimate object of our love and desire. We must worship God according to who He is and not according to what we want Him to be. In other words, do not worship false gods and do not worship God falsely.”

Is Jesus the only king we should worship? (1 Chronicles 29:11; Exodus 15:18)

Have you ever received news that you weren’t expecting? Why is it hard to worship God in those rough times? Isn’t that when we should be relying fully on His power? Pastor Cothen shares a personal story about a scary situation he and wife experienced with their daughter while she was in the womb. What did he and his wife do when they received that devastating news?

Pastor Cothen reminds us: “Even when there are tears coming out of your eyes, you are still called to worship God.”

Why should we be joyful when we worship? Tune in tomorrow for more encouragement from Pastor Cothen…

Pastor Emory says: “Faithfulness doesn’t make sense to this world, so we are called to live a life that looks different… It’s the only thing that matters in eternity.” Pastor Emory shares about his grandfather who was actually an interim pastor at CFBC 45 years ago and his own call to ministry. Why didn’t the rich young ruler like what Jesus had to tell him (aka the TRUTH)? Pastor Emory says: “It’s more than keeping a list of do’s and don’ts; it’s giving him your heart and following Jesus. He [the rich young ruler] didn’t want to listen to that.” What are you filling your time with?
What truth are you listening to? Pastor Emory reminds us that what we take in affects every aspect of our lives; be careful! (Luke 6:45)

LIVE IN FAITHFULNESS
Can we live in faith without righteousness and truth? HINT: Nope.
Why was the rich young ruler saddened by the Truth?
Why were the disciples confused when Jesus said: “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God”?
