Title: It's Time to Take a Stand Against the Crud on TV
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Dan Isett
with Parents Television Council
The Cable Execs are at it again. They are forcing dirty, perverted, violent shows down our throats. And there is nothing we can do about it. Or is there?
The average household watches less than fifteen of the hundreds of channels they actually pay for. And the prices are not going down. The cable guys add more channels to the packages and make it sound so appealing. “Look at the great deal you’re getting!”
But is it really a good deal when they are actually raising the price for channels you’ll never watch? Log on to www.ParentsTV.org to learn how you can join the fight for Channel Choice.

Title: Steps to Smart TV Time for Kids and Teens
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Melissa Henson
with Parents Television Council www.parentstv.org
Part 1 of 2
Parents, you have
control over what your kids and teens watch on TV. Melissa Henson,
the Director of Grassroots Education and Advocacy for the Parents Television
Council, says one key to ensure your kids and teens are watching appropriate
shows and movies is to plan ahead. Decide before-hand on a movie or TV show.
But, be careful! Even if a show or movie is rated G or PG, that doesn’t mean the
commercials are! Mute the TV during the commercials and talk to your kids about
the show so little eyes don’t see or hear something they shouldn't!
Listen in as Melissa gives more tips for safely watching TV or movies with your kids.

Title: Part 2 of 2 - Steps to Smart TV Time for Kids and Teens
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Melissa Henson
with Parents Television Council www.parentstv.org
As summer approaches, kids may
be spending more time with grandma and grandpa. Your parents might not realize
that some shows on Disney or Nickelodeon aren’t necessarily appropriate for
their grandkids to watch. Send them this audio link so they can get some great
tips on how to safely watch TV with their grandkids and avoid awkward moments.
Finally, what if your young child does see or hear something on TV or in a movie
that is a shock to them – and you? Melissa says, “Don’t ignore it!” Take this
time to talk to your child or teen and explain why the content was inappropriate
and why they shouldn’t repeat the language or behavior they witnessed.
You can find more tips on safe TV watching at www.ParentsTV.org.

Title: McDonald's is Losing Customers!
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Melissa Henson
with Parents Television Council www.parentstv.org
Part 1 of 2
Recently, The
Parents Television Council released information regarding which big corporations
were sponsoring (or advertising during) violent and sex-ravaged shows on prime
time. McDonald’s was one of those companies.
Melissa Henson says that McDonald’s is beginning to lose “adult” customers, so
they are now targeting your teens and college students who drive. How can you,
as a parent, send a clear message to McDonald’s and others to stop sponsoring
the smut? Go to www.WinBackOurTrust.com
or go to www.ParentsTV.org.

Title: Cable Merger will Cost you Even More
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Dan Isett
with Parents Television Council
If the Comcast/Time Warner Cable merger is approved, consumers can just cut
the cord if they don’t like what the new (likely higher) cable TV prices will
be, right? Think again.
The problem is that Comcast/TWC also controls Internet access and telephones.
It’s impossible for consumers to completely cut the cord to watch TV over the
Internet.
That’s why the Parents Television Council and others are opposing this merger
and calling on Congress to do the same. The PTC believes consumers should have
more control and that a cable choice solution would be the ultimate solution to
allow real choice in what consumers want to watch on cable TV.
Log on to www.ParentsTV.org for more information on how you can help stop this
merger.

Title: All Parents Ask for is a Little Consistency
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Melissa Henson
with Parents Television Council www.parentstv.org
Part 1 of 2
The Parents Television Council has become known for blasting individual shows, episodes, and live events for airing what the nonprofit
advocacy organization deems inappropriate for television’s younger audiences. Now it is taking on the TV ratings system itself, starting with a letter it sent to Michael Powell,
president and CEO of the National Cable and Telecommunications Association, who also serves as the chair of the TV Parental Guidelines Monitoring Board.
Listen is as Melissa Henson explains what the letter was about and what they are doing to fight for a better TV experience for your children.

Title: Bigger Does Not Mean Better
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Timothy Winter
with Parents Television Council www.parentstv.org
Part 1 of 2
Tim Winter,
President of Parents Television Council, says this of the proposed Comcast/Time
Warner Cable merger: “Combining Comcast and Time Warner Cable….will
invariably be anti-consumer and anti-family. The end result will
create the biggest media company in the world with control of nearly half of all
TV sets in the country and would make what is already the biggest broadband
provider even bigger.”
Bigger does not mean better. Listen in to hear about certain price increases and their control over what you can and cannot watch.

Title: Consumer Choice
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Timothy Winter
with Parents Television Council www.parentstv.org
Part 2 of 2
Consumers are the ones who
should have more control, which we’ve been saying for years through our support
for a consumer cable choice solution that would allow consumers to choose and
pay for only the cable networks they want.
Of course the major cable providers do not want to provide consumers a choice
over what channels they will buy. But you might be surprised to learn who else
is blocking this proposal!

Title: Cable TV Providers Bundle Some Good With A Lot Of Bad
Topic: Cable Choice is Channel Choice
Discussed by Melissa Henson
with Parents Television Council www.parentstv.org
Part 1 of 2
Cable TV providers bundle some good stations with lots of bad programming on
stations we do NOT want. However, Congress will NOT allow us Cable Choice. Why
not?
Too many in Congress and the Senate have sold their souls to Cable TV providers
and have blocked cable choice for years.
It’s time we, as consumers, say, “Enough is Enough. I will not be forced to pay
for smut.”
Listen in.

What if your favorite grocery
store had duct-taped milk with a Playboy magazine? If you saw this sign: “We now
offer BUNDLING and do not allow you a choice”, would you buy the bundle? Would
you buy it or go down the street and shop somewhere else?
What if all the stores did the same thing? Would you call, text, write, or go
see your Congressman?
It’s time for Cable Choice. It’s time we were allowed to pick and choose the
stations we want and ONLY the stations we want. The Big Cable Providers own the
stations who are broadcasting this smut, and they have paid off our elected
officials. Make this a campaign issue.
Listen in.

It is unAmerican to charge a customer for something he does not want, need or desire. If you agree, listen in. Why should we be forced to purchase 50-75 channels from our cable provider when we only watch 10-12 of them? We would not stand for the grocer to bundle a dozen eggs with a pound of bacon, a gallon of orange juice, and Play Boy Magazine? Congress should force the cable companies to "unbundle the channels" and allow us to pick only the stations we want and only pay for the stations we choose.
