Title: Finding Freedom from Homosexuality & Living a Life Free from Labels
Topic: Homosexuality
Discussed by Stephen Black
with Stephen Black (www.stephenblack.org/)

Part 1 of 2

New guest Stephen Black is the Executive Director with First Stone Ministries (FSM) in Oklahoma City. He has worked in pastoral-care ministry as an ordained minister in a local church and with International Ministerial Fellowship for over twenty-five years. Stephen also serves on the board of directors for Parents and Friends of ex-gays and Gays.

Stephen says this: “We are never more like God in His creativity as humans than when we are in concert with God creating life…one cannot create life through homosexuality.“

For more from Stephen Black, visit his blog.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

How did Stephen personally leave the homosexual lifestyle? Stephen’s testimony is powerful! You don’t want to miss it.

What does the gay community really want from America? Are they “requesting” or “demanding”?

Many people believe homosexuality is biological and trying to “change” someone only creates further damage. What’s the truth from Stephen’s own experience? Stephen references actual statistics regarding a “gay” gene or DNA.

Can people with same-sex attraction genuinely find lasting freedom from such attractions?

What are some of the common “causes” of homosexuality?

Title: Is Same-Sex Attraction a Sin?
Topic: Homosexuality
Discussed by Dr. Josh Mulvihill
with Gospel Shaped Family (www.gospelshapedfamily.com)

Part 1 of 3

Disclaimer: Use caution when listening to this segment around young children. Issues discussed may be upsetting or hard for little ones to understand.

Too many teenagers and millennials believe that homosexuality is normal and acceptable – even to God.

Dr. Josh Mulvihill discusses this sensitive and serious topic today. Dr. Mulvihill is the author of “Grand Parenting”. He is also the Executive Director of Church and Family Ministry at RenewANation, where he equips parents and grandparents to disciple their family and coaches church leaders to help them design Bible-based, Christ-centered family ministries.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

A group of high school students, as part of a talk on sexual identity, asked a pastor if same-sex attraction is a sin. How did he respond?

Is making the statement that homosexuality is a sin as popular as a doctor telling a patient they have cancer?

Is homosexuality the consequence of another serious problem – idolatry?

Can the Bible motivate us to say no to sin? Do too many sin because they will “just be forgiven later”?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Does the Bible deal with homosexual-attraction in those exact terms?

Is same-sex attraction a temptation? When does temptation become sin? When does the thought become desire/lust and then to sin? Josh references Matthew 5:27-28.

Is the sin of homosexuality any different from the sin of lust, fornication, or adultery?

Is sin a rebellion against God?

Title: The Truth is Spreading
Topic: Homosexuality
Discussed by Linda Harvey
with Mission: America  (www.MissionAmerica.com)

Part 1 of 2

Disclaimer: Use caution when listening to this segment around young children. Issues discussed might be upsetting or hard for little ones to understand.

An alarming number of young people are “identifying” as homosexual, bisexual, or “unsure”. Do they really know the dangers involved when they experiment with homosexual activity?

Linda Harvey, with Mission: America, is here to discuss two recent studies that all parents, educators, health-care professionals, and even pastors should read and distribute as our communities deal with growing numbers of the misguided and sexually confused.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Is Homosexuality exploding among kids in the US?

FACT: According to the latest survey,  there is an 85% increase among teens who identify as homosexual, bisexual, or unsure. This is roughly 1:16 teens in high school.

Are liberal sex-ed classes to blame? Listen as Linda Harvey discusses some the other factors which encourage teens to explore homosexual activity.

Why is homosexual behavior a tremendous risk – both mentality and physically?

BIG QUESTION: Recent studies from John Hopkins indicated that there is no biological gene to “make” a person homosexual?

Title: Parents MUST Have the Homosexuality Talk with Their Kids
Topic: Homosexuality
Discussed by Tom Gilson
with Critical Conversations (www.criticalconversationsbook.com)

Part 1 of 3

Disclaimer: Use caution when listening to this segment around young children. Issues discussed might be upsetting or hard for little ones to understand.

Parents of teens today may have a tougher job in front of them than parents of any other generation. While immorality has always existed, the Western world has never seen such a time of moral confusion, especially regarding sexuality, gender identification, and the definition of marriage. The devil is after our children and grandchildren. He is currently winning the battle, but will he win the war?

Understanding the eternal and cultural implications of homosexuality is key. This is not something that is just going to go away. This issue is not one that we can put on the back burner, expecting people to one day “see the light”. There is a real spiritual battle happening within our nation and around the world.

Tom Gilson is the author of “Critical Conversations: A Parent’s Guide to Honest Discussions about Homosexuality”. He says, “Kids, teens, college students, and parents must understand the issues. What’s going on with the homosexual activist agenda is an attack not just on people’s opinion, but it’s an attack on their view of Jesus Christ, church teachings, morality, marriage, and family.”

Tom goes on to explain that parents must address this issue with their teens with a real spiritual connection or they will lose their children to the world’s way of thinking. Parents can’t just “talk about it”, though; they need to know the true facts about the dangers and consequences of homosexuality.

Host Terry Lowry makes this claim: “You can’t talk to your kids about the Bible if you don’t know the Bible. The best way to talk about the Bible is to live the Bible. The only way you can talk to your kids about homosexuality is to understand what they are being taught and how to answer their questions.”

Twenty or thirty years ago, parents may have laughed at the idea of one of their children’s friends being gay; now it is the norm – maybe your own child thinks he or she is! “What was considered wrong, is now being celebrated,” Tom declares. The Bible predicted this behavior in many passages.

Your kids are already talking about homosexuality with their friends at school and, yes, even at church. They know What’s UP. Parents need to be involved with the conversation from the very beginning if they want to have any type of influence. Listen in as Tom Gilson gives some more great age-appropriate advice and discusses the lefts’ favorite accusation: Homophobia.

Title: Part 2 of 3 - Parents MUST Have the Homosexuality Talk with Their Kids
Topic: Homosexuality
Discussed by Tom Gilson
with Critical Conversations (www.criticalconversationsbook.com)

Disclaimer: Use caution when listening to this segment around young children. Issues discussed might be upsetting or hard for little ones to understand.

God has a moral nature of His own,” Tom Gilson believes. “He calls His people to live according to a moral standard that He has made part of the reality that we live in.” If God declares homosexuality to be an abomination, why do so many Christians condone it? Host Terry Lowry says, “We are the walking Bible.” Not only for our own children, but for the world. If we do not teach our children the truth, who will teach the world?

In his book, “Critical Conversations”, Tom Gilson helps parents prepare for the daunting and feared discussion on homosexuality with their teen. Many parents are just clueless as to why homosexuality and transgenderism is even an issue today when it was such a “non-issue” with their generation. In his book, Tom motivates parents to get up-to-date on the topic. Listen in as he explains how and why.

Another issue discussed in this segment is homophobia. Those in favor of gay marriage (even our fellow Christian brethren) often throw out this word, in addition to “bigot” and “hater”. Tom believes that when they use these words, they just simply disagree with our opinion on the issue. Well, of course we disagree! “If that was a proper use of the word ‘hate’, then we could turn the tide back on them!” Tom declares. But but but – that’s not fair!

Tom says, “The gay movement didn’t arise out of nowhere. It rose out of a sexual revolution [with] men and women misunderstanding what it meant to be a couple.” What does he mean by this bold statement? One point he makes in his book, “Critical Conversations”, is that we all have our own problems, but we all need Christ. We all need to be friends. Listen in as he explains further.

Title: Part 3 of 3 - Parents MUST Have the Homosexuality Talk with Their Kids
Topic: Homosexuality
Discussed by Tom Gilson
with Critical Conversations (www.criticalconversationsbook.com)

Disclaimer: Use caution when listening to this segment around young children. Issues discussed might be upsetting or hard for little ones to understand.

We all know that it is hard being a teenager. It’s hard to have convictions and be bold. Standing up for God’s truth is hard, no matter how old you are. The fear of ridicule is sometimes overwhelming, especially to teens.

So, how should parents coach their teen on being wise in manner and timing when making a stand for their convictions? First, it’s important for parents to model respectful behavior for their children. Tom Gilson explains how students shouldn’t necessarily make a stand against a teacher in class. Parents, likewise, should not question their teen’s superiors in front of others; rather schedule a private meeting.

Critical Conversations” prepares parents for the very important discussion of homosexuality with your teen. In his book, Tom gives “Parents the background they need and the ability to articulate why God’s morality is what it is.” Talking about homosexuality is awkward, and Tom has some great suggestions on how to begin the conversation in a way which seems natural to both the parent and the teen.

If a teen is questioning his or her own sexual identity or preference, Tom encourages parents to really know and trust their own convictions before talking with their teen. “This is a hard thing to have happen,” he says. “Find someone who is a trusted counselor with Biblical values, who will handle [the situation] with grace and truth.

Title: Are People Born Gay?
Topic: Homosexuality
Discussed by Jeff Johnston
with Focus on the Family www.Family.org

Disclaimer: Use caution when listening to this segment around young children. Issues discussed might be upsetting or hard for little ones to understand.

A new Gallup Poll  reveals shocking statistics about the acceptance of homosexuality in America. A record 51% believe that people are born gay and 63% agree that being gay is morally acceptable. Also, more and more people believe that “gender constructs of male and female are confining and closed-minded.

Jeff Johnston, the Issues Analyst on Gender and Sexuality for Focus on the Family, has written a fabulous, detailed report entitled: “Are People Born Gay?”  His report is not just from a Biblical view, but also uses scientific facts to support his (and many others) opinion.

Plain and simple, there is not a gay gene. Jeff Johnston explains the purpose of genes, as God designed them: “They [genes] carry recipes in our cells for creating proteins. They don’t determine a person’s attraction, identity, or behavior.” He goes on to say that if you ask geneticists if there is a gay gene, they would laugh at the thought! “There is no human behavior that is purely genetic.” Even studies among twins (identical and fraternal) cannot predict behavior and personalities – let alone a predisposed disposition to being gay!

During the middle of this interview, host Terry Lowry and guest Jeff Johnston discuss the sobering and devastating statistics of child molestation and sexual abuse – even in Christian homes and at church! The early exposure to sex (many times in violent ways) will often convince children, especially males, that they are gay. Females who are abused in childhood or during teen years by a male family member or close friend will often turn to females for love and affection in lesbian relationships.

Another new “idea” that is in its infancy of being researched and studied is the “Gay Brain”. Is this just another tactic from gay activists to try and justify their lifestyle? “The brain is highly changeable,” Jeff declares. “It changes according to experience.” Listen in as he explains this further.

One issue that has gained national attention is “reparative or change therapy”. The gay community, especially those who identify as transgender, want a national ban on the practice, like California has done. Jeff says, “To do so is an infringement on religious freedom and freedom of speech. Every mental health professional group agrees that clients should have the right to determine the course of their treatment.” Christians don’t think it is a “mental disorder”; we simply believe that it is a sin and want to encourage loved ones to turn to God and His will for our lives.
