Title: NAM to the Rescue!
Topic: Life After Harvey
Discussed by Brian Carr
with Northwest Assistance Ministries
After Hurricane Harvey, many individuals and families were housed in
local hotels. Most have found their way back home or to other
locations, but nearly 1,400 displaced flood victims are being evicted this week
from area hotels.
Brian Carr, the Chief Advancement Officer with Northwest Assistance
Ministries, has the details of who, what, where, when and why.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Who are the individuals being evicted?
What is causing their evictions?
When will this occur? NOTE: This interview was recorded prior
to the deadline of Tuesday, May 1. ALSO NOTE: These
people/families were only given a one week notice that they would need to find
an alternative place to live.
Where will they go?
Will FEMA pay for an apartment in the interim?
Are the majority of people still displaced below or at the poverty level?
What happens if an individual/family cannot find an alternative place to live?
Do they become homeless?
Has Northwest Assistance Ministry been involved with Hurricane Harvey
relief from the beginning?
NAM touched more than 129,000 lives last year alone. Listen as Brian
Carr discusses some of the programs and services NAM offers the
citizens of Northwest Houston.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle was personally impacted by
Hurricane Harvey. He stayed focused, though, helping others.

Was Hurricane Harvey the worst storm in history to hit the United States?
Neighbor helping neighbors… Was this one of the biggest factors during and after
the storm? Terry shares a quote from KSBJ: “I cannot do all the good the
world needs, but the world needs me to do all the good that I can do.”
How did this compare to the Tax Day Flood?
What kind of resources did the county use to save people from flood waters?
How are small groups, like churches and groups of volunteers, helping after the
flood? Are they limited in what they can due to lack of resources? Listen as
Commissioner Cagle recommends donating money or goods directly to a church
helping those who have been impacted…
Are some homeowners and small business owners becoming depressed because they
are frustrated and don’t know where to go next?
What areas still need attention?
Commissioner Cagle closes the segment by alerting us to a NEW project just
started: a self-help debris center in the Tomball area, located in Northwest
Harris County for people in the unincorporated area of precinct 4.

Title: 30 Days after Harvey
Topic: Life After Harvey
Discussed by Kevin Roberts
with Roberts for TX 126 www.RobertsTX126.com
Kevin Roberts represents Texas District 126 in Northwest Harris County. Today, Representative Roberts will be discussing several issues regarding “life after the flood”.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
The majority of Kevin Roberts’ constituents live in unincorporated Harris County. Many of these homes were damaged during Hurricane Harvey. What kind of help did they receive?
Should school districts that opened their doors to feed, clothe, and offer shelter to victims be reimbursed by FEMA?
How did churches and small groups of volunteers help after Harvey?
After all their years of experience, why can’t larger groups like FEMA, the Salvation Army, and the Red Cross get their act together?
Are there still some huge projects that need attention, but no one is tackling them because they are too large?
There are many individuals and small business owners who still need help – badly. Are they becoming depressed? How can we help?
Should President Donald Trump appoint a Disaster Relief Commission to specifically address these issues?
