Title: Should Abortion Doctors be Required to have Hospital Admitting Privileges?
Topic: Abortion Clinic Regulations
Discussed by Katherine Beck Johnson
with Family Research Council (www.FRC.org)
Part 1 of 2
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins will be attending the
Supreme Court oral arguments for June Medical Services v. Russo, a case
that will determine whether abortionists in Louisiana must have admitting
privileges at a nearby hospital.
Katherine Beck Johns discusses the importance of this decision and the
implications it will have nationwide. Katherine works with the FRC’s Legal and
Policy Studies.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
What does “admitting privilege” mean?
Are most doctors – and even dentists – required to have admitting privileges at
hospitals near their clinic? Katherine calls this “standard, common sense
medical care”.
Are women dying during and after the abortion procedure which was performed
within an abortion facility?
If a complication occurs, could quick admittance to a nearby hospital save the
mother’s life?
What are the main points in the Louisiana law requiring admitting privileges
that will be argued before the US Supreme Court?

Title: Part 2 of 2 - Should Abortion Doctors be Required to have Hospital Admitting Privileges?
Topic: Abortion Clinic Regulations
Discussed by Katherine Beck Johnson
with Family Research Council (www.FRC.org)
Questions/Issues Discussed:
What is an “amicus brief”?
Texas passed a similar law, which was struck down by the US Supreme Court in a
5-3 decision. However, the makeup of the court is different now. Could this
affect the outcome in June Medical Services v. Russo?
Is the Pro-Life movement also Pro-Woman?

Topic: Abortion Clinic Regulations
Discussed by Dr. Joe Pojman
with Texas Alliance for Life (www.TexasAllianceForLife.org)
The National Abortion Rights Action League has unfortunately succeeded in forcing all Pregnancy Assistance Centers in Austin to post “No Abortions Provided” signs in front of their facilities.
