Title: A Thankful Heart
Topic: Thanksgiving
Discussed by Pastor Jarrett Stephens
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

Pastor Jarrett Stephens reminds us this week that a thankful heart is the birthplace of a giving lifestyle using Paul’s message to the church in 2 Corinthians.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett explained how our giving blesses God when we give with gratitude in our heart.

How can our gratitude in giving bless others? (2 Corinthians 9:12-14) Pastor Jarrett passionately talks about the many ministries CFBC has that are only possible because people obediently and gratefully give to the church.

How can our gratitude in giving bless us? Does God promise to bless us when we bless Him and bless others? (2 Corinthians 9:6,8,10-11; Proverbs 3:9-10; Malachi 3:10; Luke 6:38)

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Do you have a grateful heart? If not, find a quiet place this week and reflect on the gift of Christ.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

When Paul instructed the church to give, why didn’t he specify an amount? Pastor Jarrett encourages us to not focus on the amount of money we should give, but to focus instead on the amount of gratitude we have in our heart.

How can our gratitude in giving bless God? Does the gratitude we have in our heart when giving show God that we trust Him completely? (2 Corinthians 9:8-11; Psalm 112)

How can our gratitude in giving bless others? (2 Corinthians 9:12-14) More on this tomorrow, along with Pastor Jarrett’s final thoughts…

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

We all know “why” we should give. Why is it also important to understand “how” to give? Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett discussed giving systematically (1 Corinthians 16:1-3; 2 Corinthians 9:6) and continues today with how we should give generously, (Galatians 6:7-9) willingly (2 Corinthians 9:5), and cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Ask yourself these questions:
Am I giving in a systematic way so needs in the community are being met?
Am I giving in a generous way like a farmer scattering his seed far and wide?
Am I giving in a willing way or does it feel like a duty?
Am I giving in a cheerful way, with a happy heart, trusting that God will provide for my needs?

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Why was Paul in debt to the church in Jerusalem? How did they help him with his ministry? Pastor Jarrett continues to explain the context behind the focus Scripture passage for this week.

What was the need in the church at that time? What was Paul’s message to the people? (Romans 15:25-27)

We all know “why” we should give. Why is it also important to understand “how” to give? (1 Corinthians 16:1-3; 2 Corinthians 9:6) Pastor Jarrett reminds us that we should give systematically and generously and discusses the Law of the Harvest.

Title: Developing a Thankful Heart
Topic: Thanksgiving
Discussed by Dr. Daniel Huerta
with Focus on the Family www.Family.org

Thanksgiving is just right around the corner, which always brings up the topic of thankfulness. Is it too easy to just say “Thank you” without really having a thankful heart?

Danny Huerta is the Vice President of Parenting at Focus on the Family. Danny believes that true gratitude is a way of viewing things; it’s a state of amazement over all the things God has given us and done for us.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What is Thanksgiving all about?

How can we develop a thankful heart?

How can parents develop a thankful heart in their children? “For kids, it starts off as an emotion,” Danny says. “Help them process and recognize that feeling of thankfulness and then develop that into an attribute.”

Are “Thank You Cards” still relevant and important today?

Has your family started a “Thank You Jar”? Why not???
