Title: Be Great Commissioned Christians
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor Averri LeMalle
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Part 5

Do you have “An Impressive Faith”? Pastor Fleming will challenge you to have the “Faith of a Centurion” next week as he continues his sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”, with a look at Matthew 8, verses 5-13.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

You will never regret telling someone of Christ’s love for them, but you will regret NOT telling them! Every person we meet is an opportunity to witness. Pastor LeMalle encourages us to step out of our comfort zone and just do it!

In review: make worship a priority, trust authority, and be secure in Christ. Be bold in Christ. Be mindful of his instructions. And be happy knowing that he is King of all.

Title: Be Great Commissioned Christians
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor Averri LeMalle
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Part 4

God has called us all to be Great Commissioned Christians. Our influence should, in turn, influence others for the Gospel of Christ. Others should automatically see Christ in us. But how can we do that?

This week, Champion Forest Baptist Church’s Teaching Pastor, Averri LeMalle, delivers a powerful sermon “Be Great Commissioned Christians” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. He will focus on the famous chapter from the Bible, Matthew 28: The Great Commission.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The Bible is more than just a book to read to our children. The Bible is more than just something we bring to church on Sundays to look like a “good Christian”. The Bible is a rule book. The Bible is our guide. The Bible should be so ingrained in our hearts that His truth shines through to every person we meet. Is this true in your life?

Whenever God allows us to be part of the life of anyone, God has entrusted us to share with them the life impact He has made on our lives,” Pastor Averri commissions us. Does he mean everyone or just those we know well?

Pastor LeMalle tells a story in today’s segment of a time when his refrigerator broke and the repair technician had to return several times because it continued to break. How did Pastor LeMalle handle the situation?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

To be Great Commissioned Christians, Pastor Averri challenges us to trust in His authority. He uses football as an analogy to explain how to achieve this…

The Savior is unlike any other authority in our lives. His authority stands – forever – in Heaven and on Earth.

With God’s authority, He calls us to go forth and spread His Truth to the four corners of the Earth. This is not an option for us. It is not something we do when we feel like it. It is His call and we must obey Him everywhere we go and in all we do.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Worship must be our priority. If we are going to make an impact, we must begin with worship. But we must be careful that we do not get distracted during worship. How often do you check your email during church? Do you ever Facebook or Tweet part of your Pastor’s sermon while he is still preaching?

Pastor Averri LeMalle also reminds us that we must TRUST His authority in our lives. He has full authority over everything in your life.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The Great Commission:
“16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshipped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'”

How can we be effective witnesses?

Why should we tell others of his love and sacrifice for us?

Pastor LeMalle encourages us to be on mission WITH Christ, not FOR him. First, he says that “we must make worship the priority of our lives.” We cannot worship and be disobedient. Listen in as he explains more…

Title: What Do We Know?
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

The End Times. This topic can either make or break a pastor. But Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at the Champion Campus of Champion Forest Baptist Church, does a fabulous job in this week’s sermon “What do we Know?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

In Matthew 24, verses 45-51, Jesus describes the fate of the faithful servant compared to the wicked servant. Which one are you? Which one will you be on the day of judgement?

Will Christians be judged on their works? Or will Christians be judged solely on their faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord?

The fourth and final attribute of the End Times that we know is: Only you can determine how your final day will end. Will you make that decision today to finally say “yes” to Jesus? What if the rapture happens on a Sunday morning, in church, and all the people around you disappear and you’re left sitting in the pew? Um, oops! BE READY!

Pastor Fleming continues his discussion on “being ready for Jesus’ return”. Are you faithful? Do you really use all your talents to further the Kingdom of God? Do you tithe? Do you live a life toward to or away from God?

The third characteristic of the Second Coming that we can be sure of is this: We will all stand before the Lord and be judged. Tune in Friday for the rest!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Another aspect of the Second Coming we can agree on is this: We must be ready for his return. Verse 43 of Matthew 24, Jesus compares his return to a master who allowed his home to be robbed because he did not pay attention. In other words, the master was not ready.

What if the rapture happens on a Sunday morning, in church, and all the people around you disappear and you’re left sitting in the pew? Um, oops! BE READY!

What will happen in the “End Times”? Do we know when, where, and how? Nope, not really. There are many opinions, many guesses, but no one knows for sure. Can we just agree to disagree on those sticky issues?

There are, however, some things we can agree on. First, Jesus is coming again. In fact, there are 1,845 Old Testament prophecies of the second coming of Christ. How many are in the New Testament? Listen in to find out how many times Jesus himself said it!

Tomorrow, Pastor Fleming reads from In Matthew 24. In verse 42, we are told: “Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.”

Questions/Issues Discussed:

When Jesus says something, you can take that to the bank.” – Pastor David Fleming

Have you ever ignored a storm warning and continued with your daily activities, only to be caught in its trenches later? Today, Pastor Fleming sadly remembers the Great Storm of 1900 where over 8,000 people lost their lives in Galveston.

In Matthew 24, the disciples were trying to show off in front of Jesus and Jesus, of course, calls them out! Jesus didn’t want to talk about the past, though; he wanted to talk about the future. This is where things got a little tricky. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains…

We do not know the day or the hour. And we don’t need to know! Many people have predicted. Some people stress over it. But Pastor Fleming warns that there is another mistake people make: NOT being concerned.

He also quickly reviews Revelation, which is applicable to this sermon. Tune in tomorrow for more.

Title: Shepherding the Least and the Lost
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

In Matthew 18:10-14, we learn of “The Parable of the Lost Sheep”. This is a Parable we have all heard from an early age. Pastor Fleming gives this Parable a new twist, though, starting his sermon with the beginning of the chapter, when Jesus was asked the following question: “Who is the Greatest?

Why did Jesus place such importance on children? Why did Jesus compare sheep to children? Why is God referred to as a Shepherd?

More importantly, parents: Are you fully engaged in your children’s life? Are you paying attention? Are you being a good role model?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

In addition to shepherding our families, Pastor Fleming reminds us that it is just as important to shepherd our church family. Has there been someone missing from your Bible Study group? Has a child in your class who come regularly been gone for several weeks? Have you seen on Facebook that a friend has decided to visit new churches for some reason? Reach out to them! Let them know they are missed! Passionate pursue them!

And of course, we are called to shepherd the lost. This is called the Great Commission. Is there anything worse than being lost? Yes – knowing that no one is looking for you! Who are you looking for today? Are you actively seeking those who desperately need the love and forgiveness of God?

The Final Characteristic of a Shepherding Father: A shepherding father is passionate in proclaiming his joy. Are you happily sharing your faith to others? Do you celebrate when someone accepts Jesus Christ as their savior and Lord?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming continues to explain why the shepherd left the flock to persistently pursue one lost sheep. How can we apply this characteristic in our own lives?

It’s okay to pursue your kids passionately. It’s okay to be persistent in teaching them the ways of the Lord. If you don’t, the world will teach them otherwise. “Do not be willing to let them go,” Pastor Fleming implores.

If you feel broken hearted and like a failure as a parent when your child goes astray, imagine how God feels when we do the same. Oh, the pain He must feel and the tears He must shed.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

In Luke chapter 15, two other well-known Parables are mentioned: The Lost Coin and the Prodigal Son. Listen in as Pastor Fleming explains why he uses these Parables in connection with the Parable of the Lost Sheep.

How did Champion Forest Baptist Church begin? It is no secret that it is large. Some call it a “mega-church”. There are now four campuses across the Northwest Houston area, averaging seven to eight thousand people each Sunday morning. But, is that enough?

The Second Characteristic of a Shepherding Father: A shepherding father is personal and persistent in his pursuit. When one sheep has gone astray, do not give up. That sheep is just as significant as the other ninety-nine. Were the others not as important? Certainly not! Listen as Pastor Fleming explains…

Parents: Are you fully engaged in your children’s life? Are you paying attention?

How can we be “Shepherding Fathers” to our own children? If you do not have children, can you still be a “Shepherding Father”? What if you are a woman? Listen as Pastor Fleming offers several applications that apply to everyone, not just fathers.

Does the phrase “little one” just apply to children? Nope. How do you view new Christians? Do you help them or just let them find their own way?

Pastor Fleming says: “If we ever lose sight of the value of an individual person as a part of the Body of Christ, we have lost something about what it means to be a family and a church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Encouraging a child to follow Christ is a rewarding and wonderful thing! However, if we cause a child to stumble and sin, Jesus says “it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18: 6)

This is the lesson which Pastor Fleming wants to teach us this week: Shepherding the Least and the Lost. Pastor Fleming uses a comparison of God the Father and God the Shepherd. Listen as Pastor Fleming reminds us that Jesus placed great importance upon children throughout his time on earth. This Parable is simply one small example.

First Characteristic of a Shepherding Father: A shepherding father is present and paying attention. How did the shepherd know when one small sheep from a group of one hundred went astray? He was paying attention.

Title: What’s It All Worth To You?
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

What is your treasure? How much is it worth to you? Is it worth more than your salvation? Is it worth more than your faith? Is your treasure the here and now? Is your treasure secure in the Lord Jesus Christ?

Pastor Fleming is focusing on two different Parables in Matthew 13 this week: The Parable of the Hidden Treasure (vs 44) and the Parable of the Pearl of Great Value (vs 45-46). This sermon, “What’s It All Worth To You” is part of the “Gospel of Matthew” series at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The final part: His Kingdom is more valuable than anything – for which we can offer nothing – if it costs everything – it will be well worth it all. Amen! When we let go and let God, amazing things happen! No, life is not all sunshine and roses, but when we rely on Him and trust His plan, all things will come together.

If Jesus comes to you and tells you ‘I’ll give you hope and purpose and meaning, joy and contentment and peace… I’ll give you fullness, if you’ll just give me your emptiness and your misery and your pain and your disappointment and your hurt… Let’s make a deal’… YOU MAKE THAT DEAL!” Pastor Fleming implores us. Questions/Issues Discussed:

None of us are good on our own. We can’t be. It’s impossible. This is why unbelievers have such a hard time grasping the miracle of salvation. They “think” they are good people – and they may be, by the world’s standards. But are they “good” compared to God’s standards?

Listen as Pastor Fleming takes this segment today to explain why “things” just don’t matter and reminds us that our hearse won’t be dragging a trailer.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Sin makes us sinners,” Pastor Fleming reminds us. This should be a no-brainer, but some people just don’t get it – even Christians! We have all fallen short of receiving our treasure from God. None of us are worthy. The good news? Jesus paid it all for us!

The third point: His Kingdom is more valuable than anything – for which we can offer nothing – if it costs everything. The man who found the treasure “just had to have it” and sold everything for that one field. The man who found the pearls did the same. The treasure they found cost them everything they had, even though they were already wealthy beyond measure.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What is your treasure worth to you? God has chosen, through forgiveness, to love you unconditionally – no matter what. We will one day have no more sin, no more suffering, no more guilt, no more shame. Is anything worth more than that?

The second point Pastor Fleming discusses is: His Kingdom is more valuable than anything – for which we can offer nothing. These Parables teach us that the Kingdom of Heaven is not for sale. It is a gift from God through His son Jesus Christ.

On the other hand, God expects us to do our part; it’s not a 98% / 2% partnership. It’s not even 50-50. We must give Him 100%. Can we, though? Isn’t that why Jesus came to die on a cross for us? Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming concludes his explanation…

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The moral of these Parables is not about “ethics” or even doing the right thing. Pastor Fleming explains how, in the first Parable, the treasure had probably been there for a long time and the owner of the field didn’t even know it existed. The same can be said for the second Parable. In both instances, the finder of the treasure sold all they had for what they found. Why would they do that?

Jesus is obviously not simply talking about worldly treasure in these two Parables. The real treasure isn’t even the Kingdom of Heaven. Listen as Pastor Fleming describes our treasure as being found in the Lord Jesus Christ…

Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming continues his first point of the sermon: His Kingdom is more valuable than anything.

Title: The Sower, Seeds, and Good Soil
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

Within the Gospel of Matthew, we find many Parables taught by Jesus. This week, Pastor David Fleming, senior pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church, dissects the “Parable of the Sower” from Matthew 13.

Pastor Fleming has two main topics from this Parable: The Four types of Soil we will encounter as we plant seeds. And how we, as Christians, can use seeds in our own lives to grow and transform in our walk with Christ.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

When you expect to hear from God, you WILL, in fact, hear from Him! Have faith and trust that He will guide your steps. This goes in conjunction with Pastor Fleming’s fourth point: conserve the Word. Listen as he explains…

Pastor Fleming also discusses the importance of taking notes during sermons and bible study classes. Yes – take notes! God is always speaking to you, but it is difficult to remember. Taking notes is key.

The final point for this week’s sermon: Do Something! Don’t just take in the Word; apply it in your life every day. Pastor Fleming offers Scripture after Scripture in reference.

Which type of soil discussed this week describes you? If you are unsure, please call Champion Forest Baptist Church and ask to speak to a pastor or counselor: 281.440.3800 Do it today. You will be glad you did.

Day 4

Within the Gospel of Matthew, we find many Parables taught by Jesus. This week, Pastor David Fleming, senior pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church, dissects the “Parable of the Sower” from Matthew 13.

Pastor Fleming has two main topics from this Parable: The Four types of Soil we will encounter as we plant seeds. And how we, as Christians, can use seeds in our own lives to grow and transform in our walk with Christ.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The fourth and final type of soil is “Good”. This is the productive soil that produces a harvest, where the seed is transformed.

Pastor Fleming states: “The Word of God does not exist for our entertainment or encouragement, although it does both. The purpose of the Word of God is to change us.” We must be willing to change in order to grow.

So how can we implement soil type four in our lives? Listen as Pastor Fleming offers several helpful tips, including reading the Bible and prayer for wisdom. He concludes tomorrow, so tune in!

Day 3

Within the Gospel of Matthew, we find many Parables taught by Jesus. This week, Pastor David Fleming, senior pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church, dissects the “Parable of the Sower” from Matthew 13.

Pastor Fleming has two main topics from this Parable: The Four types of Soil we will encounter as we plant seeds. And how we, as Christians, can use seeds in our own lives to grow and transform in our walk with Christ.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What does the “seed” mean in the Parable of the Sower? Listen as Pastor Fleming explains that the sower and the seed are actually one-in-the-same. “How we hear and receive God’s Word and what we do with it determines what it produces in our lives,” he states.

Pastor Fleming says there are “Four Soils” we must be aware of. The first: Closed Soil. The seed falls on this soil, but does not get packed in; it just bounces off. It is not ready to receive the seed.

The second type of soil is “shallow”; it’s rocky. There is good soil, but it is not deep enough to accept the seed for germination. It also has too many rocks below the surface.

The third type of soil is “distracted”. The seed is planted and seems to grow, but it never fully pops up out of the surface. Pastor Fleming says this is the most dangerous soil to be stuck in. You may “think” you’re a Christian, but you aren’t. Listen as he explains further…

Tomorrow Pastor Fleming offers the fourth type of soil we will encounter as we plant seeds…

Day 2

Within the Gospel of Matthew, we find many Parables taught by Jesus. This week, Pastor David Fleming, senior pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church, dissects the “Parable of the Sower” from Matthew 13.

Pastor Fleming has two main topics from this Parable: The Four types of Soil we will encounter as we plant seeds. And how we, as Christians, can use seeds in our own lives to grow and transform in our walk with Christ.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The purpose of a Parable is to reveal spiritual truth. In Matthew 13, verses 18-23, Jesus explained the purpose of the Parable of the Sower. Listen as Pastor Fleming reads from the Scripture…

The “sower” is not necessarily just Jesus; it is anyone who plants the seed in an unbeliever’s heart. The sower does not need to be a Bible scholar. YOU are a sower every day.

Pastor Fleming also offers a warning to us in today’s segment: “Be more interested in the message than the messenger.” Do not get comfortable in church. Don’t have a “favorite” pastor. Don’t have a “favorite” singer. Every leader – every person – in the church has a purpose and can teach you something as you walk and grow in the Lord.

Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming discusses the “Four Soils”

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What does “Parable” mean?

The people listening to Jesus speak were not really there to learn anything; they just wanted to be near him and hear him teach. They wanted to be entertained.

Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming

Day 5

Jesus has “The Touch that Transforms”. In fact, he is so powerful, he doesn’t even need to be physically present to change lives. Pastor David Fleming continues where Pastor Averri LeMalle left off last week in the “The Gospel of Matthew” series with Matthew Chapter 9, beginning in verse 18.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

It doesn’t get much worse than being dead. Once you’re gone, you’re gone right? Well, not when Jesus is around!

In Matthew 9:23-26, we see one more miracle from Jesus. The Centurion’s daughter was dead and being prepared for burial. Jesus walked in, took her by the hand, and brought the girl back to life. WOW! Everyone was stunned – in absolute shock!

We can never do anything so abhorrent that God cannot reach us – that Jesus will not touch us. Remember that promise as you seek Him today.

Pastor Fleming closes the sermon with an old hymn: “He Touched Me”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why do we wait until we are desperate to seek the help of Jesus? Why not seek him first?

The Centurion’s daughter died while Jesus was on his way to see her. But, then, Jesus stopped because someone touched him. Why would he stop? He was on an important mission to save a leader’s child!

When the woman touched Jesus, he felt power leave him and she was healed immediately. She began to tell everyone what happened because this was not a miracle you keep secret! What did the disciples think about this?

Jesus was drawn to the suffering, sick, and broken. He didn’t shy away from it like other “leaders” did. He loved people the way a mother loves her child.

When everyone else walked away, Jesus stepped in. When everyone else backed off, Jesus drew closer. Pastor Fleming says this: “No one is too high to need – no one is too low to receive – his loving touch.” Do you love others like that?

Pastor Fleming goes on to another part of Matthew 9 to the woman who was untouchable due to a discharge of blood. This woman could not even attend Synagogue services! Imagine how it would feel to be so “unclean” that you were turned away from the church.

Day 1

Have you ever experienced a mighty, miraculous act of God? This week, we will hear of the greatest miracle of all as Pastor David Fleming continues his series “The Gospel of Matthew” with a powerful sermon “The Miracle of Forgiveness”.

How is forgiveness a great miracle? Pastor Fleming tells the story from Matthew Chapter 9 of the paralytic man whom Jesus healed – and forgave. Jesus did not know this man. He did not know his sins. Yet, with just a few words, Jesus healed and forgave him.

Listen in each weekday as Pastor Fleming reminds us of the importance of forgiveness – a true miracle in everyone’s life.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

How would you react if you saw someone heal a paralyzed person with just a few spoken words?

A few men took compassion on a paralytic man, carrying him to see Jesus. In addition to compassion, they demonstrated conviction. It wasn’t easy to lower a person down through a rooftop. The men also had to endure the stares and whispers of the tremendous crowd.

Listen as Pastor Fleming explains how their faith confirmed the possibility of a miracle.

Title: An Impressive Faith
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew

with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

Without faith, it is impossible to please God. But with faith, is it possible to also impress God?

Do you have “An Impressive Faith”? Pastor Fleming will challenge you to have the “Faith of a Centurion” this week as he continues his sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”, with a look at Matthew 8, verses 5-13.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

An Impressive Faith:
1) is rooted in the person of Jesus,
2) recognizes the authority of Jesus,
3) is rewarded in the Kingdom of heaven,
4) releases the power of God into our lives.

The Centurion did not have a “showy grand kind of faith”. It was a simple faith. He truly believed that Jesus could save his servant. Do you “show off your faith” or are you humble in your requests?

Pastor Fleming also reminds us that the Centurion had the authority to command Jesus come to his house; yet, he did not make this demand. Why? Because the Centurion recognized that “God does not take orders from us; He takes requests”, Pastor Fleming says.

If you have never made a commitment to follow Christ with your whole being, please do not hesitate. Counselors and pastors at Champion Forest Baptist would love to speak with you. Call them today: (281) 440-3800

How do you think the disciples felt when Jesus marveled over the faith of the Centurion in Matthew 8:10? There only two times in the Bible when Jesus said “he marveled”. The other is found in Mark 6:6 “And he marveled because of their unbelief” in regards to the Jews.

Pastor Fleming goes on to discuss Heaven, the dinner table, outsiders (Gentiles), the outer darkness (hell), and why faith matters – always. “Our access to Heaven is not based on what we have done, but what he has done,” Pastor Fleming states.

Do you have “An Impressive Faith”? Pastor Fleming will challenge you to have the “Faith of a Centurion” this week as he continues his sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”, with a look at Matthew 8, verses 5-13.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

An Impressive Faith is:
1) rooted in the person of Jesus,
2) recognizes the authority of Jesus, and
3) rewarded in the Kingdom of heaven.

Have you ever been under someone else’s authority? It’s hard, isn’t it?

On the flip side… Have you ever held authority over someone else? Being the boss isn’t any easier!

In either position, you must act quickly and respectfully in every situation. Pastor Fleming uses this analogy to explain how we must act in our Christian walk. When God clearly gives us instructions, do you wait or do you act accordingly? Do you tell Him “no” or obey Him?

You cannot argue with the authority of Jesus. The Centurion acknowledged this. He knew Jesus had the right and ability to heal his servant with a simple word. We can do the same today! Just speak his name and recognize the authority he has over your life. “The only right response is to surrender to his Lordship,” Pastor Fleming says.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

An Impressive Faith is:
1) rooted in the person of Jesus and
2) recognizes the authority of Jesus.

It’s not the size or volume of our faith this is important; it is the object of our faith that matters. Who or what is the object of your faith?

The Centurion definitely had enough faith FOR Jesus to heal his servant. However, it was his faith IN Jesus that caught his attention.

Why was Jesus’ statement “I’m coming to your house” so important?

When he helps you, how do you react? Pastor Fleming believes that our faith in Jesus can humble us. Jesus is not required to help us – or even hear our prayers. Yet, he does – and desires to help us.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The Centurion was an important man who was accustomed to giving the orders and people obeying his every command. Yet, when he came to Jesus, he was extremely humble. He could have forced Jesus to come with him, but he did not. In fact, he urged Jesus NOT to come!

We learn in Matthew 8, verses 5-7, we see that the Centurion had faith. It was a simple faith, just a small bit of faith. But he asked to Jesus to heal his servant anyway. Then, his faith grew.

Believing is not enough. Faith is not enough,” Pastor Fleming states.” It’s faith properly placed in Jesus that makes the difference.

To be Great Commissioned Christians, Pastor Averri challenges us to trust in His authority. He uses football as an analogy to explain how to achieve this…

The Savior is unlike any other authority in our lives. His authority stands – forever – in Heaven and on Earth.

With God’s authority, He calls us to go forth and spread His Truth to the four corners of the Earth. This is not an option for us. It is not something we do when we feel like it. It is His call and we must obey Him everywhere we go and in all we do.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

We pray that you enjoyed Pastor David Fleming’s sermon “What Kind of King is He to Me” this week. Champion Forest Baptist Church’s Teaching Pastor, Averri LeMalle, will be with us next week with a powerful sermon on how to “Be Great Commissioned Christians”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Partial surrender is an oxymoron. You cannot surrender only “some” of your all. We must continually root out the areas in our lives that need attention. Flowers cannot grow while weeds are in the garden.

Jesus did not die to be our “emergency number”. Pastor Fleming implores us to serve the Kingdom, purposes, and priorities. Remember that God does not exist to please us; we exist to please Him.

Servants have no agenda and receive no glory,” Pastor Fleming states. We should not have expectations of God, but he sure does have expectations of us.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Jesus never said or did anything randomly. He always had a specific purpose – even his ride on a donkey!

Why is “Lamb Selection Day” important to Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem?

While we may not always get what we want, God always gives us what we truly need,” Pastor Fleming reminds us. Take comfort in the fact that Jesus, who was sinless and perfect, died for you, an imperfect, sinful human. He came to love you. No King before or since has ever loved you like Jesus.

This week’s sermon “What Kind of King is He to Me” was presented by Pastor David Fleming on Palm Sunday from Matthew Chapter 21.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What kind of King was Jesus meant to be?

The people knew a mighty King was coming. They trusted that Jesus was the King they were looking for. Why did they turn on him, then? Pastor Fleming believes it was “frustration over unmet expectations”. They wanted saving then – at that moment. They could not understand why there was a delay in their freedom.

Just as in Mark Lanier’s Psalms for Living Devotion for today, Pastor Fleming reminds us how we cannot navigate around God’s plan. We cannot mold God into our plans; we cannot make Him who we want Him to be. He is God and we are not.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The once happy crowd, who welcomed Jesus, quickly turned angry and against him. What a disappointment this must have been to Jesus. This turn of events was no surprise to God. He knew it would happen. But why didn’t He stop it?

What kind of King were the people expecting?

Tune in next week as Pastor David Fleming presents the next sermon in “The Gospel of Matthew” series: “What Kind of King is He to Me.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Listen as Pastor Fleming continues with the story from Matthew 20, beginning in verse 20. Mamas can be pretty protective of their kiddos sometimes, but Jesus definitely knows how to put us in our place.

If you want to be a good leader, you must love others and lead like Jesus. But there is more. To be a good leader, you must serve others. Pastor Fleming says: “The way to gain is to give. The way to win is to lose. The way up is down. And the way to be great is on your knees.”

What are you willing to do to be a leader? Will you wash the windows? Clean the toilets? Take the dirty jobs? Will you truly sacrifice to give of yourself for others?

Day 4

David Fleming, the Lead Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church Cypress Creek Campus, begins his next sermon in the series “The Gospel of Matthew” today. “Lesson on Leadership” focuses on Matthew Chapter 20 and reminds us all that we have a responsibility to be good stewards of our influence over others.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Who is leading whom? When you are in a leadership position (which everyone is!) you not only must love the people you lead, but also lead the people you love.

Pastor Fleming recounts the story from verse 20 in Matthew 20. The mom in this passage shows the love a mother has for her sons. She has a specific and ambitious request, but she was uninformed. Was she being a leader or just an overprotective mama? What was Jesus’ response?

There are certain steps that must be respected and great leaders know this. Leaders lead, but leaders also follow.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

In Matthew 20:24-29, Jesus was telling his disciples what it takes to be a leader. Basically, to be a leader you need to be a slave. Why?

Pastor Fleming now shifts gears in his sermon to the torture Jesus endured. Pilot allowed horrific acts to be done to Jesus – things we cannot even imagine. But there is hope! Listen as Pastor Fleming goes into more detail revealing the leadership of Jesus – the best and ultimate human leader of all time.

Do you know what force kept Jesus on the cross? His love for you! When someone loves you that much, they have the authority to lead you. Please allow Jesus to love and lead you today.

Leadership = Influence. If you have influence over any one, you are a leader. Now, let’s learn how to apply some lessons on being a good leader.

Jesus was the greatest leader who ever lived. If we want to be good leaders, we must follow his example. Listen as Pastor Fleming reads from Matthew 20, beginning in verse 17 – the famous passage where Jesus told of his death for the third time.

Listen in each day this week as Pastor Fleming preaches from Matthew Chapter 19 continuing his series on “The Gospel of Matthew” with his sermon entitled: “That One More Thing”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Actions Steps for this Week:
1. Lay it down. Let it go. Have you gotten life backward? Are you loving things and simply enjoying God?
2. Offer it up. Use it. Commit to service.
3. Give it away.

This is not just regarding money. “Generosity is the antidote of greed and materialism,” Pastor Fleming states.

Listen in each day this week as Pastor Fleming preaches from Matthew Chapter 19 continuing his series on “The Gospel of Matthew” with his sermon entitled: “That One More Thing”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Is Jesus worth everything to you? Pastor Fleming begins today’s segment with this: “Jesus isn’t something or someone we add to all that we have and do. Jesus is the one for whom we forsake all that we have and do.”

Money can supply plenty of security, but it cannot provide the most important thing: salvation. Money cannot offer us a personal relationship with the Son of God.

On the other hand, even if you are not rich and just barely holding on financially, you still need that connection to Jesus. It’s not about the amount of money you have; it’s how you choose to respond to that last dollar you have in your pocket.

Action Step #1: Lay it down. Pastor Fleming will conclude his sermon tomorrow, as well as offer more action steps to apply to your walk with Christ.

David Fleming, the Lead Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church Cypress Creek Campus, has a question for you this week: What one thing could keep you from following Jesus?

Listen in each day this week as Pastor Fleming preaches from Matthew Chapter 19 continuing his series on “The Gospel of Matthew” with his sermon entitled: “That One More Thing”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What if good just isn’t enough? The Rich Young Man was a great guy, but he just wasn’t “good enough”. He was looking for that “one more thing” and it was stopping him in his tracks.

There was another problem with the Rich Young Man: his wealth. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains how this man was breaking the First Commandment with his love for money.

Matthew was a hated man. Why? Because he took people’s money! Yet, when Jesus called to him, he went. Paul killed Christians, but he was chosen to follow Jesus. This is the same call we have today: to follow Jesus. He is worth it, though. He is worth more than money, power, and authority. None of that – or anything else – is worth your soul.

Listen as Pastor Fleming continues to read from Matthew 19, beginning in verse 23, when Jesus responds to the Rich Young Man. He didn’t sugar coat it. He didn’t water it down. He told him the truth because that’s all that matters.

Listen in each day this week as Pastor Fleming preaches from Matthew Chapter 19 continuing his series on “The Gospel of Matthew” with his sermon entitled: “That One More Thing”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming continues to break down Matthew 19, beginning in verse 16: The Parable of the Rich Young Man. Who was this man? Was he well liked? Why did he want something more so badly when he appeared to have everything he needed?

More importantly, what did Jesus say in response to this young man’s question: “What good deed must I do to have eternal life?

Our sin separates us from God, even though we are all born with a yearning for a relationship with Him. After all, even the faith-filled monk Martin Luther had doubts about his own salvation. And the Apostle Paul, in Philippians 3, listed off his good deeds trying to appear more righteous. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains.

Pastor David also tells a personal story of sharing the gospel with his son’s former martial arts teacher. “Sometimes you have to get lost before you can get saved,” he says.

Title: That One More Thing
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 1

David Fleming, the Lead Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church Cypress Creek Campus, has a question for you this week: What one thing could keep you from following Jesus?

Listen in each day this week as Pastor Fleming preaches from Matthew Chapter 19 continuing his series on “The Gospel of Matthew” with his sermon entitled: “That One More Thing”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

In Matthew 19, beginning in verse 16, Jesus tells the Parable of the Rich Young Man. Verse 26 really stands out: “26But Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'” Aren’t you glad this verse is in the Bible?

Is there anything you are holding onto that is keeping you from fully following Jesus?

Was the rich young man also powerful?

This man obviously had favor in Jesus’ eyes. However, he was little self-righteous. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains.

Title: Conflict Resolution
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Dr. Stephen Trammell
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

What one thing could keep you from following Jesus? Where is your dedication? Tune in next week as Pastor David Fleming returns with his sermon “The One More Thing” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Trammell concludes his story about painting his house and ignoring his son. What happened next?

Sometimes our forgiveness to others come quickly. There are other times when we just get tired of extending that forgiveness to the same person over and over again. How should we respond in this situation? “Forgiveness can be immediate, but trust takes time,” he says. Listen as he explains.

Essential #1: Go one-on-one with private confrontation
Essential #2: Extend forgiveness
Essential #3: Forgiveness has an encore

Remember: Give yourself grace because God is the only one who can “forgive and forget”. Inevitably something will trigger the pain of your past, but you can control what becomes of that memory. Will you take control of it or let it control you?

Title: Conflict Resolution
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Dr. Stephen Trammell
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 4

Stephen Trammell, the Lead Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church North Klein Campus, continues the series on “The Gospel of Matthew” with an outstanding sermon entitled: “Conflict Resolution”, focusing on Matthew Chapter 18.

This week’s sermon addresses a rather sensitive subject: strained relationships. Everyone has endured a strained relationship. They cause pain and heartache for all involved. However, as Pastor Trammell points out, we often only treat the symptoms of the pain without focusing on the root cause.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Trammell continues with The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant today. It’s a story we know well, but why did Jesus feel so strongly about the lesson to be learned from it?

What is forgiveness? A process. An event. Tune in tomorrow for the third!

Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and hoping the other person will die. Pastor Trammell says: “The pain of unforgiveness becomes greater than the pain of their offense.”

Henry Blackaby once posed this question: “Would you want God to forgive you in the same way you presently are forgiving others?

NOTE: Pastor Trammell’s story about his son, Austin, ends on a happy note. Check out the rest of the story tomorrow!

Day 3

This week’s sermon addresses a rather sensitive subject: strained relationships. Everyone has endured a strained relationship. They cause pain and heartache for all involved. However, as Pastor Trammell points out, we often only treat the symptoms of the pain without focusing on the root cause.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why should we saturate ourselves in prayer when we have a conflict with a brother or sister in Christ?

What is the next step when the other person will not respond to your conversation to resolve a conflict?

Pastor Stephen Trammell reminds us that their lack of response is not a reflection on you. You have tried and now it is up to them to allow God to move in their heart. “God defines success with one word: obedience,” he states. “You can never go wrong doing right.”

Essential #2: Extend forgiveness. Sometimes this is very, very difficult – nearly impossible. Why should we offer forgiveness when the other person has no desire to make things right?

How many times did Jesus say to forgive another person? Is this number absolute or just a starting point?

Listen tomorrow as Pastor Trammell continues with The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant.

Pastor Trammell will be spending the next few days going into more detail, with more Biblical suggestions for conflict resolution.

Why is private confrontation important to conflict resolution?

The ultimate goal is restoration and reconciliation, not attacks,” Pastor Trammell says. But what if someone tries to turn the conflict around to blame you? This is when you bring in another person to help resolve the conflict. If this still doesn’t resolve the problem, then the church body becomes involved. Listen as Pastor Trammell explains this in more detail.

Saturate the process to align your heart with God’s agenda,” Pastor Trammell says, using Matthew 18:18-20.

Pastor Trammell says, “At some point you have to lift up the rug and address the mess.” This doesn’t sound pleasant, because it’s not! Listen as Pastor Trammell explains.

Why is confessing before God important to conflict resolution?

Pastor Trammell’s first point for this sermon is: Go one-on-one with private confrontation.

Discussed by Pastor Scott Riling
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Part 5

Today is the conclusion of Pastor Scott Riling’s sermon “A Glimpse of Glory” from the series “The Gospel of Matthew”. Tune in next week as Pastor Stephen Trammell brings a powerful word from Matthew 18 on “Conflict Resolution”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Do you have faith like the woman in Mark Chapter 5? She simply wanted to touch the hem of Jesus' garment; she trusted in that one touch to heal her completely.

The final point Pastor Riling makes concerning Matthew 17 is this: Mountain top experiences are wonderful, but life is lived in the valley. Pastor Riling poses this question: “Why would he [Jesus] give them [the disciples] good news if he was going to die?

Romans 12: 2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Part 3

This week’s “The Gospel of Matthew” sermon is from Pastor Scott Riling, the Discipleship Pastor at the Cypress Creek Campus for Champion Forest Baptist Church. The sermon is entitled “A Glimpse of Glory” and focuses on Matthew Chapter 17.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Be joyful that YOU are chosen by God. Jesus was in a league of his own. And Jesus alone is enough. These are Pastor Riling’s observations from Matthew Chapter 17.

What did the disciples do when they knew Jesus was alive? What would YOU do?

What did Jesus do when he saw the disciple’s reaction to his resurrection? What did he say?

Is God approachable? Pastor Riling reminds us of the story from Mark 5 when the woman simply wanted to touch Jesus’s robe. Jesus response was one of love and kindness, not condemnation. He is still the same today with you and me.

Why did Thomas not believe it was really Jesus? What did he do when the realization became clear?

When you are going through difficult times, and all you can see is Jesus…Jesus is enough,” Pastor Riling says.

The disciples weren’t the only ones chosen by God. We ALL are. We can take JOY in that! This is Pastor Riling’s first point for his sermon. He continues with his sermon today with Romans 12:2 where Paul warns us to not be conformed to the world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.

Pastor Riling’s second observation from Matthew 17: Jesus is in a league all his own. No one compares to Jesus. In verse 4, Peter tries to compare Jesus to Moses and Elijah. Then, in verse 5, Peter is interrupted by a TALKING CLOUD! What happened next?

The third reflection Pastor Riling shares of these verses is this: Jesus alone is enough. Do we really need anything other than Jesus? Can our earthly relationships truly satisfy us? Tune in tomorrow for more!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

As Pastor Scott Riling looks at Matthew Chapter 17, he wants to encourage us with several observations. The first: The joy of being chosen by God. The disciples weren’t the only ones chosen to follow Jesus – we ALL are!

Why does the transfiguration of Jesus still confuse people to this day?

How would seeing Jesus walk into a room after he died affect you?

Why were Peter, James, and John chosen by God to see Jesus?

Day 5

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Who is Jesus to You” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on March 5, 2017, and focuses on Matthew Chapter 16.

Tune in next week to hear Pastor Scott Riling present the next installment in this series: “A Glimpse of Glory”. Pastor Riling is the Discipleship Pastor at the Champion Forest Baptist Church Cypress Creek Campus.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Was Jesus just a man? Was he just like you and me? Nope, not at all. In Matthew 16:17, Jesus says: “Blessed are you, Simon! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.” What kind of answer was this to the disciple’s question concerning who he was? Listen as Pastor Fleming explains further.

Who does Pastor David Fleming believe Jesus is?

Points to Remember:
All glory is to God alone.
All boasting is in Christ alone.
God has not chosen to do this alone. He wants us to be part of His story in order to tell His story.

What does Hosanna mean?

Jesus was not ashamed to proclaim who he was. Are you as confident?

John openly stated that Jesus was Christ, the Son of the Living God. What did Jesus say and do in response?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming reviews from yesterday: Before we can answer “Who is Jesus to You”, we must first examine “Who Jesus Thought Himself to Be”.

First, we discover that Jesus referred to himself as “The Son of Man”. Daniel 7:13-14

The second term Jesus called himself was “Messiah”. Pastor Fleming uses Isaiah as a reference.

Finally, Jesus said he was The Son of God. He was not “a” son of God, like we are; Jesus was THE Son of God. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains the difference using several Scripture passages.

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Who is Jesus to You” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on March 5, 2017, and focuses on Matthew Chapter 16.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Would you have the courage to proclaim your faith in Jesus by announcing who he is to you in front of a crowd? After all, many people have varying opinions of who Jesus is, and your opinion might rub someone the wrong way. Listen as Pastor Fleming offers just a few examples.

You cannot say Jesus was a good man, but he was not God. “The two are mutually exclusive,” Pastor Fleming states.

However, did Jesus ever claim to be God? Did his followers just want to believe it so much that they falsified the evidence?

Before we can really look at “Who is Jesus to You”, maybe we should examine “Who Jesus thought Himself to Be”… Listen in Pastor Fleming discusses this question.

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Who is Jesus to You” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on March 5, 2017, and focuses on Matthew Chapter 16.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming begins the sermon this week with this question: “Who is Jesus to You?”

Do you simply believe what your parents or grandparents taught you? Do you quote Sunday School lines?

Do you really know Jesus personally? Do you know who Jesus was as a man? Do you know Jesus as the Son of God?

You cannot be wrong about Jesus and be right with God,” Pastor Fleming says.

What questions did Jesus ask in Matthew 16? Why is this question so important? More importantly, why is the answer significant?

Popular opinions are often incorrect, just as the opinions were from the crowd when Jesus asked them who he was. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains how all of their answers, while flattering, were absolutely wrong.

Tune in next week as Pastor Fleming continues with this series on: “Who is Jesus to You”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming says: “A new coat of paint doesn’t change the fact that we need a new heart.” Christianity can transform your life. Once we guard our hearts, our lives will reflect more of Jesus and less of us.

Action Steps:
1. Invite Jesus into your heart. That is where it all begins.
2. Give Jesus full and unrestricted access to your heart. Allow him to clean it out.
3. Restrict what you allow in your heart. Garbage in…garbage out.

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Guarding Your Heart” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on February 26, 2017, and focuses on Matthew Chapter 15.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor David Fleming continues with verse 7 in Matthew 15 today, explaining what Jesus said in response to the Pharisees and why he said it. He also looks at Matthew 25:23 as further explanation.

The difference between religion and “religion” is relationship. “At the heart of our religion is a religion of the heart,” Pastor Fleming says. We can say all the right things and perform all the rituals, but still be cold in our hearts. Pastor Fleming says we are just wasting our time – and God’s time, too. Ouch! Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming continues discussing the traditions and rituals of the elders compared to the Law from God’s Word. Jesus’s answer to the elder’s questions was classic.

Why is honoring our parents important?

Is it okay to have special traditions as a church family? Is it okay to have personal preferences? Pastor Fleming says: “Where we get into trouble is when we make a preference a conviction and call it truth.”

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Yesterday, we learned how the elders began to change God’s Word and twist it around to favor them, in a way that was not right. Then, they had the nerve to call out the disciples! What was going on with these men anyway? Listen as Pastor Fleming gives more details today.

What was the purpose of a hedge? Why was it a tradition for the elders, regarding the law?

Why was hand washing revered as so significant? Was there a proper way to wash your hands?

There are other rituals and traditions that the elders held dear, but were just not necessary. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains the problems with their traditions. “You can have the cleanest hands in town, but the most corrupt heart. Because washing your hands may get the germs off your hands, but it won’t get the sin out of your heart.”

How did Jesus answer the elders concerning their traditions? Did Jesus agree with them or did he chastise them?

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Guarding Your Heart” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on February 26, 2017, and focuses on Matthew Chapter 15.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming begins his sermon with a story from his bicycling days…he was tired after a long bike ride in the mountains; in fact, he thought he was having a heart attack! What happened next?

Matthew 15 begins with the Pharisees reprimanding Jesus and the disciples. What was Jesus' response? He specifically points out verse 18: “For out of the heart comes evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, and slander.” Which of those sounds like the Pharisees?

Furthermore, was this an accusation against Jesus? Were the Pharisees purposefully trying to get Jesus to slip up and sin?

Part 5

Today is the final segment in Pastor Averri LeMalle’s sermon: “Realize Rest in a Restless World” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. Tune in next week as Pastor David Fleming is back with a fantastic sermon about “Guarding Your Heart”. You don’t want to miss it!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Jesus never lost his cool. He never walked away and said “Y’all crazy people are too much for me.” This is why it is so vital that we, as Christian, take time to rest and live more from His Word and know His Promises. If we don’t, we explode with out-of-control emotions.

Rest allows our emotions to take a time-out and be washed clean. This also allows God to do His job through us! “It doesn’t matter what is going on around us,” Pastor Averri says. He uses the analogy of gravity to explain how our situations are directly related to the amount of rest we need. Listen in!

Part 4

This week, Pastor Averri LeMalle’s sermon is entitled: “Realize Rest in a Restless World” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on February 12, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 11, beginning in verse 28.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you living connected to Christ?

In Matthew 11:29, Christ said “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me…for you will find rest for your souls.” Pastor Averri calls this “reallocating your resources”.

Have you ever wondered what “yoke” really means? Well, wonder no more! Pastor Averri explains in the beginning of this segment today.

The next phrase in this verse is “learn from me”. What can we learn from Christ? One translation says you can “learn to master your emotions”. We can all benefit from that, can’t we?

Listen tomorrow as Pastor Averri LeMalle completes his powerful sermon “Realize Rest in a Restless World”.

Title: Realize Rest in a Restless World
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor Averri LeMalle
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Part 3

This week, Pastor Averri LeMalle’s sermon is entitled: “Realize Rest in a Restless World” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on February 12, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 11, beginning in verse 28.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Anyone can come to God. Don’t worry about your past. Leave the baggage at the door and simply come to Him.

God doesn’t want to see His children – His prized creation – dying under the weight of oppression and sin that separates us from Him,” Pastor Averri passionately proclaims. “Close the gap between you and Him,” he continues.

Forget about God for a minute…How do handle interaction with others? Do you ever confide your troubles to a close friend or a counselor? Do you ever air your frustrations on Facebook or Twitter? Probably so, right?

Change this around and tell your troubles to God. He wants you to! Yes, He already knows, but the point is this: Stop relying on others and rely on God!

Do whatever it takes to close the gap and come to me, Christ says. Furthermore, in Matthew 11:29, he says “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me…for you will find rest for your souls.” Listen as Pastor Averri explains this verse. He will continue tomorrow, so tune in!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you tired of being tired? Do you put on a “pretty face” and pretend your life is perfect? Pastor Averri wants you to stop – NOW! Why put yourself through that heartache when all God wants is for you to lean on Him and trust that it will all be okay?

Christ didn’t come to save himself. He came to save YOU and ME. His invitation is not for the prefect person; his invitation is for the hurting and brokenhearted.

Pastor Averri says: “When you accept this invitation, it is life-changing…Christ says to come the way you are.

Matthew 11: 28-30 “28Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Are you feeling weary? Are you tired? Does it feel like you never get ahead no matter how hard you try? This week’s sermon from Pastor Averri LeMalle will encourage you and give you hope for a future!

Day 5

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Truly Follow Jesus” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on January 22, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 9.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Being a Christian is not easy. Your life will not be care and trouble free. Learn to rely on God for help, especially when you are witnessing to those who do not believe the same as you. And remember you are not there to be “like them”; you are there to love them. Be careful that your witnessing does not turn to sinning.

This week’s challenge:
 1. Remember who you were before Jesus called you to follow him.
 2. Remember who He is.

Day 4

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Truly Follow Jesus” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on January 22, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 9.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Do you live in a Christian bubble? Get out of it! But be careful that you don’t stray too far…

Matthew was an excellent example of a “fisher of men”. He didn’t just leave his old life behind; he brought people with him when he left!

However, Pastor Fleming has this warning: “If discipleship takes you so deep that no one ever goes there with you, then you are not being discipled, you are being distracted.” Listen in as he explains this statement.

There are many challenges within discipleship. For example, be ready for gossip. Some Christians may judge you when you begin to associate with those outside your bubble. Listen as Pastor Fleming offers more advice.

Day 3

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Truly Follow Jesus” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on January 22, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 9.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Do you remember the hymn “Wherever He Leads I’ll Go”? Are you living that or do you just say you do?

The call from Jesus is still the same today as it was 2,000 years ago. He still wants us to follow him with all our being, not just once in a while. Does Jesus see that desire in you? Pastor Fleming poses this question: “Are you still living with the mindset of abonnement for the sake of Christ?

Pastor Fleming continues with the story of the time Matthew invited Jesus to dine with him at his home, along with the other disciples and even some of Matthew’s colleagues. Listen in as Pastor Fleming explains why this event was so significant.

Day 2

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Truly Follow Jesus” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on January 22, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 9.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The Pharisees were not crazy about the attention Jesus gave to Matthew, a tax collector. Are we, as Christians, too judgmental when a fellow Christian speaks to someone we deem less than acceptable? Pastor Fleming says this: “We have to remember: Are we living lives on mission or are we just going along?” In other words, don’t be so focused on the mission that you forget people along the way.

Aren’t we all the same kind of people, anyway? We all need God, after all. We all have sinned. We all need a Savior. Every color. Every culture. Every gender. Every economic status. Every age – young or old. We are all the same kind of people.

Listen as Pastor Fleming explains why Matthew was so compelled to leave everything he owned behind to follow a man he didn’t even know. Do you follow Jesus in the same way Matthew did?

Day 1

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Truly Follow Jesus” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon was presented on January 22, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 9.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Sharing the Gospel is not easy. Sometimes it is downright uncomfortable. But why? Are we afraid of ridicule? Are we afraid of rejection? Pastor Fleming goes one step further… WHERE do you share the Gospel? Are all your friends Christians who think and behave as you do? It’s hard to share the Gospel when everyone you talk to are already Christians.

Matthew was a tax collector. Not a very respected position. He did not have many friends; in fact, most people did not even talk to him. But Jesus changed that! Listen as Pastor Fleming reads the story where Matthew is introduced in Chapter 9 to Jesus.

Jesus saw a man that everyone else would have justified themselves in completely avoiding,” Pastor Fleming points out. “But Jesus saw a man.

Title: Preparing for the Storm
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew

with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Preparing for the Storm” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.  This sermon was presented on January 15, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 8.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Review: Remember His Purpose, Reflect on His Promises, Rest in His Power, and Rejoice in His Presence.

Although the disciples chose to follow Jesus, they didn’t really know why…until he calmed the storm by simply speaking. Who was this man that the seas would obey his commands? This is the moment they realized the true power of Jesus.

Pastor Fleming shares a personal story of fully trusting in God’s faithfulness and provision. God does not sit on the sidelines waiting; He takes an active and participating role in each of our lives. “It’s not just His presence; it’s the experience of His presence,” he states.

Day 4

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Preparing for the Storm” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.  This sermon was presented on January 15, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 8.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why were the disciples so worried about the storm? They were, after all, fishermen who should have been accustomed to bad weather! Was it simply their lack of faith? Pastor Fleming believes it was more than their panicked state that caused their lack of faith.

God is not intimidated by a stormy sea. He does not waver when the skies look gloomy. Then why do we have such a lack of faith when we know, without a shadow of a doubt, that He has it covered? Why do we try to fix it alone before we ask Him for help? Listen as he explains using Matthew 8:26, where Jesus finally calmed the storm.

The final point from Pastor Fleming’s sermon this week is: Rejoice in His Presence. Tune in tomorrow to hear more on this important aspect of a Christians life in “Preparing for the Storm”.

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Preparing for the Storm” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.  This sermon was presented on January 15, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 8.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Fear is the opposite of faith. Storms are tests of our faith that often reveal our fear.

Review of two points from Monday and Tuesday: Remember His Purpose and Reflect on His Promises. Today’s lesson: Resist the Urge to Panic.

God never said our lives as Christians would be easy. He did say, however, that He will always protect us. “Everything that comes your way will be Father-filtered,” Pastor Fleming states. “He won’t allow anything to come to you that will destroy you.

The disciples panicked! Jesus was tired and sleeping through a terrible storm. Jesus knew what would happen, but he needed rest first. These verses really showcase the humanity of not only the disciples, but Jesus, too.

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “Preparing for the Storm” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.  This sermon was presented on January 15, 2017, and focuses on Matthew 8.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

If you choose to follow Jesus, will you have a “storm-free life”?

If you choose to follow Jesus, will you be protected?

Yesterday, Pastor Fleming reminded us of the time when Jesus calmed the raging sea. This was a literal situation where the disciples could see the power that Jesus possessed. But why did Jesus calm the storm? He was not merely just saving their physical lives. Jesus wanted to illustrate how he could also save their souls. This passage is a perfect example of how following Jesus – no matter what – will always be better than sitting on the sidelines.

Pastor Fleming also lamented yesterday the first point in his sermon: Remember His Purpose. The second point is: Reflect on His Promises. Tune in tomorrow as he continues with the next lesson we can learn from this passage.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Storms take all types of forms: financial, relationships, health, career, home, family. Everyone will face at least one major storm in their lifetime.

Pastor Fleming says “When you are afraid, focus on your faith and overcome your fear.” God never gives us more than we can handle, right? Yes He will! Why? Because He wants us to trust Him and lean on Him fully!

We see in Matthew 8, beginning in verse 23, how the disciples asked Jesus to save them during a terrible storm on the sea. What was Jesus’ response?

Listen as Pastor Fleming explains why Jesus got in the boat in the first place. “God doesn’t do random,” he states. It’s all part of His Purpose.

This week, Pastor Averri LeMalle’s sermon is entitled: “Divine Intervention” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. Please keep in mind that this sermon was delivered during the Christmas season and some reference may not be relevant to today.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Yesterday, Pastor Averri reminded us of Joseph’s dedication to Mary. He loved her, believed her, and trusted her completely. When Joseph accepted God’s word and surrendered to His plan, everything worked out.

How faithful and obedient are you? Do you second-guess God? How’s that working out for you? Probably not very good...

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Joseph responded to Mary’s pregnancy with compassion. He didn’t cast her aside and spread rumors about her. Instead, he listened to the angel and supported Mary. In other words, he accepted his present situation and made the best of it.

How do you handle conflict and unpleasant situations? Do you react like Joseph? Or do you give up?

Does God really have a reason for every good and bad situation we experience in this life?

God’s saving grace and mercy is not reserved for preachers and missionaries. His grace and mercy is for ALL.

Pastor Averri LeMalle also says: “It takes a change of intentions to align them obediently with God’s intervention.” There is a reason that The Gospels specifically mention Joseph’s obedience. Listen as Pastor Averri explains.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

At this point in the story of the birth of Jesus, Mary is found to be pregnant before marriage. She is adamant that she has not been with a man and that the baby is the Son of God. Joseph is understandably confused and hurt and embarrassed. But Joseph really steps up to the plate and becomes the father he was meant to be.

Why is godly character important? “If we are going to be ready for God’s intervention in our lives, we have to cultivate godly character that will hold in times of crisis,” Pastor Averri states. “We have to consider God’s revelation in our present situations.

Do you have compassion against those who have wronged you?

Why does God demand our submission?

Where is the true background of the Christmas Story? In Matthew or Luke?

God still intervenes in the lives of His people. God is still in the miracle-making business. Isn’t that an amazing realization?

The birth of Christ is the most miraculous act God ever performed. Pastor Averri LeMalle looks at the birth of Christ this week, in Matthew 1, beginning in verse 18.

Pastor Averri makes an excellent point: Jesus did not just appear on Earth. He was born, just like you and me. Why did God choose to bring Jesus to the world by birth and not an automatic appearance?

Does God really do what He says He will do?

Why does God use flawed people to share His hope to a flawed world?

Day 5

This week, Pastor David Fleming’s sermon is entitled: “A Straight Line with Crooked Sticks” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”. This sermon has an interesting text: Matthew 1, the genealogy of Jesus.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

We are born searching for…something. Why? Because God created us to be in a relationship with Him! Even those who do not know of Jesus and his sacrifice know something is missing.

The saving bloodline of Jesus has flowed through the centuries straight to you! Have you ever thought of that?

Pastor Fleming wants to know: Have you been adopted into God’s family? Will there be someone in heaven one day because you chose to follow and obey Him? There will be someone, someday in heaven, who is grateful that you followed Jesus. Don’t pass up an opportunity to share the saving love of Jesus to someone today!

Why would Matthew emphasize the crooked branches in Jesus’ family tree? They certainly weren’t like Jesus, but they were like us! There is a place for everyone in the family tree because God is in the adoption business.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Romans 8:28 is a beloved verse. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” This verse is a reminder that God can – and will – use anyone for according to His will and purpose.

Today, Pastor Fleming begins to break down the different “branches” of Jesus’ family tree. Each person in the genealogy of Jesus had a specific part to play – no matter their past. God used prostitutes, liars, and murderers to shape the way for Jesus to come to this world.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why did Matthew begin with the genealogy of Jesus? Why not just skip the “boring stuff”?

Pastor Fleming states: “The genealogy of Jesus connects Jesus to the larger context of history which is His Story.” Jesus didn’t just appear out of nowhere. He is THE story from beginning to end. He is the reason we are here.

We also see in the genealogy of Jesus the demonstration of his “Messianic credentials” and the faithfulness of God through all the generations.

Today, Pastor David Fleming completes his sermon “Checking Our Motives” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.   Tune in next week as we air his next sermon “A Straight Line with Crooked Sticks”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming has been teaching on giving, fasting, and praying this week. Why are these three aspects of a Christian’s life so important?

He closes the sermon with his thoughts on fasting…When you fast, don’t make it a distraction. In other words, clean yourself up and don’t announce that you’re fasting. Also, fasting doesn’t mean you give up food completely for a period of time. You can fast from technology, or you can fast from coffee – but warn people before you do that one!

Title: Checking Our Motives
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 4

Listen in each day this week as we air a portion of Pastor David Fleming’s sermon “Checking Our Motives” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.  Pastor Fleming will be in Matthew chapter 6.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

It’s important that Christians do good deeds for others, but we must be careful to help others for the right reason. But, how can Christians help others “in secret” while encouraging others to do the same? Pastor Fleming uses Acts 5, when Ananias and Sapphira flaunted their giving. What happened to them?

How do you feel about anonymous giving? Do you give the same amount in absolute secret as you do when your name is attached to that check?

Prayer…how are your conversations with God? Do you rush through “thanks for this” and “bless this” and “pray for so-and-so” or “God bless this food”? How often do you have an actual soul-bearing, long conversation with God?

What do you do when someone else is leading in prayer? Do you just listen? Check your email? Scroll Facebook? Answer a text? Or, do you pray, too?

Day 2

Listen in each day this week as we air a portion of Pastor David Fleming’s sermon “Checking Our Motives” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.  Pastor Fleming will be in Matthew chapter 6.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Matthew Chapter 6 is not really about whether or not we pray, give, or fast; rather, these verses are really about our motivation and the condition of our heart. Pastor Fleming reminds us of the story of David…how a lowly shepherd boy was chosen to be King. The world looks on the outside, but God looks at our heart.

Why do we pray? Pastor Fleming says this: “Prayer is simply coming into the presence of God and having a conversation with Him. It’s two-way. It requires speaking and listening.” We pray to receive knowledge. We pray on the behalf of others. We pray to give thanks.

Will God still reward us for our good deeds in Heaven? Do they matter if we can’t tell others about them? Note: This is a trick question.

Tune in each day this week as Pastor David Fleming expands on these three aspects of Christianity, why we should practice them, and the right way we should do them.

Day 1

Listen in each day this week as we air a portion of Pastor David Fleming’s sermon “Checking Our Motives” from the sermon series “The Gospel of Matthew”.  Pastor Fleming will be in Matthew chapter 6.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

As Christians, we want to be part of God’s activity. We have a heart to help the hurting and the needy and the hopeless.

But, how “righteous” are you? Do you publicize your motives to others? When we do good deeds, Jesus warns us to not let our motives be known, but rather do them in secret. However, there are times we must be an encouragement to other Christians and let them know how they, too, can serve God by helping the least of these.

There are three aspects of Matthew 6 which Pastor Fleming will focus on this week. One is giving. How does the saying go? “It is better to give than to receive.” Who said that?  Jesus!  Praying is another aspect. We all pray, but what is the motive behind your prayers? The Bible says to pray without ceasing. The final aspect is fasting. Ouch! How often do you fast? This is not a popular spiritual activity, especially in Texas!

Tune in each day this week as Pastor David Fleming expands on these three aspects of Christianity, why we should practice them, and the right way we should do them.

Title: Living Out Missions
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

Pastor Fleming concludes his sermon entitled: “Living Out Missions” from the Gospel of Matthew series. Please note: This sermon was recorded on November 13, 2016, when Champion Forest Baptist observes Mission Day. Some portions of this sermon may not be relevant to today.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor David Fleming begins this final segment by reminiscing about his childhood. His whole family, cousins included, would gather in the fall to help gather up the harvest from his family’s garden. This is the same for Jesus…he waits until the harvest is plentiful then sends his workers (you and me) out into the field.

We are not all called to travel the globe to share the Gospel, but we are all called to be disciples for Jesus. This ministry looks different for everyone. You may be called to be a foster parent. You may be called to go on short mission trips. You may called to volunteer with different organizations. You may be called to offer financial support. We are ALL called to pray.

Tune in next week as Pastor Fleming teaches on “Checking Our Motives”.

Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew

Day 4

Pastor Fleming continues his sermon series on the Gospel of Matthew with a powerful sermon entitled: “Living Out Missions”.  Please note: This sermon was recorded on November 13, 2016, when Champion Forest Baptist observes Mission Day. Some portions of this sermon may not be relevant to today.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

During the segment today, special guests and Champion Forest Baptist Church members Charles and Amy Cross will be speaking from the heart about why they serve in the mission field in France. In fact, CFBC has quite a few people serving overseas, sharing the Gospel to people in countries that desperately need Jesus.

FACT: Approximately 750 million live in Europe and less than two percent (2%) identify as born-again Christians.

Pastor Fleming urges everyone to pray earnestly for the people who have been called to be missionaries. Sure, contributing financially is great and serving personally is even better. But never forget that prayer is powerful!

Charles Cross says this, quoting Christopher Wright: “Jesus did not give a mission to his church. He formed a church for his mission.”

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Did you know that Houston is the most ethnically diverse city in the nation? You do not need to travel the globe to share your faith. Your mission is right outside your door! Recognize the opportunity that is just steps away from your very own house.

Listen as Pastor Fleming passionately preaches about reaching more and more and more people for Christ. It’s not about ego; it’s about people.

What we really need is followers of Jesus to follow him into the field of harvest,” Pastor Fleming says.

Day 2

Pastor Fleming continues his sermon series on the Gospel of Matthew with a powerful sermon entitled: “Living Out Missions”.   Please note: This sermon was recorded on November 13, 2016, when Champion Forest Baptist observes Mission Day. Some portions of this sermon may not be relevant to today.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

There has always been heartache and heartbreak in the world. How do you respond to the sadness? Do you just move one? Do you say a prayer? Do you get involved? First, our hearts should break. Second, we need to do something about it. Yes, prayer is important and you should not stop praying! But, what else can you do about the heartbreak and misery in the world – in your own community?

Remember, one day we will stand before God and we must give an account for what we did on Earth. Will you make God proud?

Living out the mission means that we are to recognize the opportunities that surround us,” Pastor Fleming states. He reads from Matthew 9:37, where Jesus was instructing the disciples to stay where they were despite the sickness, hate, and sin they were surrounded by.

How do you view those who are “different” than you are? Are you welcoming or afraid?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Pastor Fleming is focusing on Matthew 9:35-38 this week. Missions are a very big part of Champion Forest Baptist Church. The Missions ministry at the church is large and participants are constantly helping those in need in the community and across the world.

In order to live out the Missions message we must first live a Gospel-centered life. Jesus knew the importance of traveling to various places to preach the Good News. After all, the Good News is really the “Best News” we could ever tell!

Pastor Fleming also reminds us that we are to care for the needy and afflicted, especially the lost. Follow Jesus’s example, once again, and have compassion for people. Be heartbroken over the brokenness in the world.

Discussed by Pastor Averri LeMalle

Day 5

Today we will conclude Pastor Averri LeMalle’s message “Step Up”, from the “Gospel According to Matthew” Sermon Series at Champion Forest Baptist Church, where Pastor Averri is the teaching pastor. Click the link below for more information on service times and locations.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

God is calling us away from retaliation to affection. He is calling us into a relationship with Him.” – Pastor Averri LeMalle

Yesterday, Pastor LeMalle reminded us of what Jesus said in Matthew 5 about anger, lust, adultery, divorce, swearing falsely, and revenge. Today, he looks at verses 43-48, which instruct us to love our enemies. “The essence of the Gospel is found in love,” Pastor Averri laments. We cannot hate our neighbor (or enemy) and have love for God at the same time.

You cannot survive this life alone. Only Christ can fulfill the righteousness of God. You must rely on God and accept His authority over your life. Accept and confess that only Jesus Christ can make you whole again. If you have never accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, please do not hesitate – do it today. You will be glad you did. Day 4

This week, we continue with the “Gospel According to Matthew Sermon Series” with Pastor Averri LeMalle’s sermon: “Step Up”.  Pastor Averri is the teaching pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church. Click the link below for more information on service times and locations.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you an angry person? I’m not talking about just occasionally. Do you get angry often? The person in front of you in traffic…the cashier…the man at the toll booth…the receptionist at the doctor’s office…

What about politically? Do you ever have “word fights” on Facebook or Twitter with someone who disagrees with you about politics? Well, stop it! It’s time for confession.

Pastor Averri moves on to the next sin mentioned in Matthew 5: lust and adultery. Don’t stop listening! This is a very, very important issue we must discuss. It’s not just about “sex”; this applies to anything you want more than you desire God. “If anything causes you to sin, you should disconnect yourself from it,” Pastor Averri says. “If it doesn’t lead you to God, you should leave it alone.”

Pastor Averri also discusses divorce and swearing falsely. Tune in tomorrow for the conclusion of Pastor Averri LeMalle’s sermon.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

As children, we must follow our parents’ rules. As Christians, we must follow God’s rules. But remember what Pastor Averri says…putting aside all those rules and regulations, God wants to have a relationship with us.

But how can we follow those rules and regulations in order to obtain a relationship with God? Pastor Averri continues with Matthew 5:23 and Jesus’s instructions to the disciples, specifically toward anger. In fact, there are many instances throughout the Bible when Jesus addressed the sin of anger.

Our emotions can get in the way of our worship of God,” Pastor LeMalle states. “Any time we portray anger toward someone else, we are portraying our anger toward someone who is made in God’s image… We cannot claim to love God and remain angry with the very people God loves.” Ouch! Remember that the next time you get angry with your spouse or your kids!

Day 4

Do you ever think “How can I make a difference”?  This week, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church, David Fleming, continues his sermon series “The Gospel According to Matthew” with a fantastic sermon entitled: “Be Salty and Bright”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What we do is a reflection of who we are. They are, after all, called the “Beatitudes”, not the “Doatitudes”. We are a reflection of His glorious light – no matter where, no matter what, no matter when, no matter who we are with.

The greatest weapon we have against the dark is light. Just as we are afraid of what we cannot see, the darkness is afraid of the light. By our very presence, we light up the night like a candle.

Pastor Fleming urges Christians to “stop whining and start shining.” If we all just started being more positive, then the darkness (negativity) won’t have a chance to be present.

Matthew 5:14-15 in a nutshell: Don’t hide your light! “The darker the night, the brighter the light that shines,” Pastor Fleming states.

Title: Be Salty and Bright
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming

Day 3

Do you ever think “How can I make a difference"? This week, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church, David Fleming, continues his sermon series “The Gospel According to Matthew” with a fantastic sermon entitled: “Be Salty and Bright”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you a “Sunday only” player? Or do you “practice” every day of the week? Do your co-workers, friends, classmates know you’re even a Christian? Can they “taste” your salt?

In Matthew 5: 13, we learn that we have a big responsibility to remain pure before God. We must not simply “act” like salt; was must “be” the salt. If a bag of salt is left open, it will lose its flavor. You can dump a whole bunch of that ruined salt in a dish, but it still won’t taste good!

If something in your kitchen becomes rotten, what do you do? You throw it out! If you clean the bowl or plate or bottle that rotten item was in, and it still smelled, would you still use it? Or would you throw it out?

Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t throw you out when you mess up and do something rotten? He will scrub you clean until you shine, making you whole once again!

Pastor Fleming also reminds us today that we are too be the light of the world. However, taking it one step further…Jesus shines on us; he called us out of the darkness. Since Jesus is light, we are to be a reflection of that light. Are you? Tune in Thursday and Friday this week to hear more on being the light in this dark, dark world.

Day 2

Do you ever think “How can I make a difference”?  This week, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church, David Fleming, continues his sermon series “The Gospel According to Matthew” with a fantastic sermon entitled: “Be Salty and Bright”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Salt was rare in Biblical times. This is why Jesus compared the Christian walk to salt: you are a valuable commodity. “The world on a low-sodium diet is bland and unsavory,” Dr. Fleming says. Why would Jesus compare us to salt, though, if we are smelly, gross, rotten, and unclean to God?

If we are the salt of the earth, we are to salt the earth. Christians too often compare their view of the world to the church. The world is not “church”; it is the exact opposite.

Pastor Fleming compares the Christian walk to a football game. If a team spent three hours in one huddle, the game would be pretty boring. Break the huddle and just get out there (in the world) and spread His love and forgiveness. (Remember, this sermon was presented in the fall of 2016 in the midst of football season.)

What is our responsibility? We can get so caught up in being salt, we forget to be salty. Tune in tomorrow for more from Pastor Fleming.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What does Charlie Brown have to do with this week’s sermon? Pastor Fleming uses text from Matthew 5: 13-15, where “influence” is the key.

Throughout these three short verses, “you” or “your” is used five times. Why is this so significant?

Why did Jesus use salt as a metaphor to describe the Christian walk? Jesus is basically saying: “You are an essential ingredient”.

Title: How to be Happy – Part 2
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

Last week, Pastor David Fleming delivered Part 1 of his sermon “How to be Happy”. This week, he will conclude that sermon, from his sermon series “The Gospel According to Matthew”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Jesus never told us that following him would be easy. In fact, he warned that we would be hated and persecuted for our beliefs! Likewise, being a Christian doesn’t give us the right to judge others and be unkind to those who believe differently than we do. We must be careful and guard what we say at all times.

The last Beatitude can be found in Matthew 5:11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.” The next verse, however, brings us hope and encouragement! Why?

You can have a little bit now, or you can have an awful lot later,” Pastor Fleming says. “You make the decision.

Why should we rejoice in the Lord? Pastor Fleming offers three reasons we should rejoice and the “key to the Christian life”.

Tune in next week as Pastor Fleming reminds us that we are to be the Salt and Light to a broken, fallen, sinful world.

Day 4

Last week, Pastor David Fleming delivered Part 1 of his sermon “How to be Happy”. This week, he will conclude that sermon, from his sermon series “The Gospel According to Matthew”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The eighth Beatitude is found in in Matthew 5:10: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Isn’t this encouraging? Not really! Why should we be satisfied and content in persecution? Pastor Fleming says this is NOT natural, but it IS supernatural.

We should not be surprised that Christians are often hated. Jesus told us we would be! If you think it’s bad here in America with the media and politics, visit a South African or Middle Eastern country! You’ll be thankful you live in the United States of America!

Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 3

Last week, Pastor David Fleming delivered Part 1 of his sermon “How to be Happy”. This week, he will conclude that sermon, from his sermon series “The Gospel According to Matthew”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Today’s segment begins with a Scripture Passage from Psalm 24. In Christ, we are made pure. But what happens each and every time we sin? Must we ask for salvation again, or just ask for forgiveness?

Can you be positionally pure and practically pure at the same time? Pastor Fleming explains that there is a process we must follow to become and remain pure.

Are you making good decisions? If not, you can!! It isn’t about right and wrong – good or bad; it’s about best!

God doesn’t want to be a long-distance buddy; He desires to be a best friend who you talk to everyday.

As peacemakers, we are not only one with the Father, we are one together in Christ.

Tune in tomorrow as Pastor David Fleming teaches on the next Beatitude is found in Matthew 5:10: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Day 2

Last week, Pastor David Fleming delivered Part 1 of his sermon “How to be Happy”. This week, he will conclude that sermon, from his sermon series “The Gospel According to Matthew”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why are The Beatitudes so important to a Christian’s walk with God? Last week, Pastor Fleming discussed the first four Beatitudes; this week he talks about the rest.

Why should we pity the pitiful?

Mercy is when we don’t get what we do deserve, and grace is what we get what we don’t deserve.” – Pastor David Fleming

Day 5

This week’s sermon from the series “The Gospel According to Matthew” is entitled “Getting Off to a Good Start” with Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Was Jesus more concerned with Mary sitting at his feet or Martha preparing his meal in the kitchen?

The final Beatitude from Matthew 5 is: Pursue a relationship with God. Pastor Fleming compares our love for God to our love of food. Do you love God as much as you love breakfast? Pastor Fleming isn’t trying to be funny…He’s simply trying to make you think about the importance of God in your life.

The key to happiness being produced in us is……..Listen in to hear what Pastor Fleming says!

Day 4

This week’s sermon from the series “The Gospel According to Matthew” is entitled “Getting Off to a Good Start” with Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

This week, Pastor Fleming has been walking through the Beatitudes. We have learned about humility and mourning the last two days. Today, he will be talking about the importance of practicing discipline and self-control.

To be a good witness, Christians must practice self-control. Jesus could have lost his control many, many times, but he never did. Why? Because he had a mission and purpose, just like we do.

Pastor Fleming warns us to be careful with our social media accounts – even our conversations around the water cooler. Are you being careful with what you’re posting and talking about?

Pastor Fleming tells a story of how God was definitely watching over him and his wife, Beverly, when they lived and pastored in Florida. But, he also learned a lesson in discipline and self-control.

Day 3

This week’s sermon from the series “The Gospel According to Matthew” is entitled “Getting Off to a Good Start” with Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Yesterday, Pastor Fleming spoke about The Beatitudes and reminded us that humility is of utmost importance in a Christian walk. If we remain humble, we will be happy. Today, he talks about brokenness and why we should mourn our losses. But wait…weren’t we just talking about being happy?

Pastor Fleming uses 2 Corinthians 7:10 to describe the difference between godly and worldly grief: “For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.

God not only offers mercy, He also offers compassion. He wants us to come to Him with our grief so He can comfort us and make us stronger.

Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming continues with The Beatitudes: discipline and self-control.

This week’s sermon from the series “The Gospel According to Matthew” is entitled “Getting Off to a Good Start” with Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

If you look at the worldly standards of happiness, you will never be satisfied. So, what does “happy” really mean?

How can a person become truly happy?

What is the Biblical definition of poverty?

Are we, as Christians, truly rich?

Would you rather have the little Tootsie Roll now, or wait for the big one later on down the road?

Day 1

This week’s sermon from the series “The Gospel According to Matthew” is entitled “Getting Off to a Good Start” with Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew Chapter 5, is perhaps the most famous sermon ever preached. Of course, it also includes The Beatitudes, which Pastor Fleming starts his sermon with today.

Do the Beatitudes indicate that we will always be happy as Christians?

We all know that money, fame, power, success, and love will not make us happy. But why do we still strive for them? Pastor Fleming offers some insight.

Day 5

This week’s sermon from the series “The Gospel According to Matthew” is entitled “Getting Off to a Good Start” with Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

“His vision, mission, and call for all us is to be in ministry with Him, mobilizing, multiplying, and advancing the Kingdom and kicking down the doors of hell.” – Pastor David Fleming

God is patient, but He also doesn’t want you to just stay where you are. When you become a Christian, He wants immediate action. Your “YES” should be the best thing you’ve ever done.

Peter was just a man – he was human like the rest of us. He knew he couldn’t walk on water, but he trusted Jesus and got out of the boat. When will you get out of the boat?

Sometimes when you get comfortable, God makes you move. Pastor Fleming reminds us of Moses and the Israelites.

What is keeping you from following Jesus? What is in your net? What is weighing down your boat? Cast it off and start fresh right now.

Day 4

This week’s sermon from the series “The Gospel According to Matthew” is entitled “Getting Off to a Good Start” with Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Jesus chose fishermen for a specific reason: they were accustomed to “cleaning the fish”. In the same way, we are to seek the “fish” and share how they can be “clean” forever.

God will give you opportunities to help others – to share His love to others. This is the response He expects from us.

When should our response to God be? When we’re ready? When it’s comfortable? When our “net” is finally empty? Hint: this is a trick question.

Sometimes God tests us to see if our YES is on the altar. But sometimes God stirs us up to reposition us because God’s next assignment for us requires a next step from us.” – Pastor David Fleming

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The event of our salvation, which is our response to his invitation, is followed by a process that requires progress over a life long journey of faith.” – Pastor David Fleming

God has called those who He wants. Doesn’t He want everyone? YES! But we all have a choice. The disciples all had a choice. Aren’t you glad they followed?

Our destiny is to follow Jesus. Our purpose is to follow him. It’s why he came and why he died.

Once you are saved, what will you do? Can you stay the same, worldly person? Of course not! You also won’t automatically become a super spiritual person. So what now? Listen as Pastor Fleming reveals Jesus' plan for you – and the world.

Day 2

This week’s sermon from the series “The Gospel According to Matthew” is entitled “Getting Off to a Good Start” with Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Jesus isn’t looking for your ability; He is looking for your availability.” – Pastor David Fleming

Who do you hang out with? Only Christians? Or do you seek to help those in the most need?

From the very beginning of Jesus’s ministry, he sought out the “undesirables”. He didn’t look for the rich men or smart philosophers. He wasn’t even in Jerusalem, where the best of the best lived. He was on the outskirts of towns, where the needy lived.

What is the “Who Me Disease”? God’s story is much bigger than just us. It’s His story and He chooses whom He will use. Will you go?

Was Gideon a mighty man of God when Jesus found him?

Pastor Fleming mentions one important fact today: The people normally chose their Rabbi back then, but Jesus chose his disciples. Listen as he explains why this is so important.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

To fight off temptation, one must be prepared. Pastor Averri LeMalle concludes his sermon today by reviewing the F.A.S.T facts and why all Christians should be well-versed in Scripture.

Meditation is another barrier between you and temptation. This is different than just knowing Scripture.

Title: Why Would Jesus Be Baptized
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

In the Fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”. Today is the final segment in his sermon entitled “Why Would Jesus Be Baptized”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

People who are well have no need for a doctor. People who are sick must see a physician to become well and whole again. All people of every color, creed, and background are sick spiritually; this is why everyone is need of a Savior – the Great Physician.

Pastor Fleming believes that Jesus was baptized in order to “feel” what his death would be like. Of course, there was only joy and happiness during his baptism, unlike his death, which was painful beyond imagination. Listen as Pastor David reminds us what Romans 6:4 says about baptism and Jesus’s death.

Jesus’s baptism was more than a ritual; it was an example. But, why should we be baptized? Didn’t Jesus pay the ultimate debt in our place?

Sometimes the right thing to do is the right thing to do because it’s the right thing to.” – Pastor David Fleming

Have you, by faith, identified with Jesus? Trust comes first. Baptism is second.

In the Fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”. Today is the fourth segment in his sermon entitled “Why Would Jesus Be Baptized”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

We begin this segment with the following statement from Pastor Fleming: “Jesus is the first New Testament prophet, except that he is more than a spokesman FOR God; He is the voice OF God.” Have you ever thought about that? Listen as Pastor David recounts John’s description of Jesus’s baptism.

No religious leader (or very few) of the time would dare associate with sinners. So, why did Jesus feel the need to not only “hang out” with but also identify with sinners?

Pastor Fleming tells the story of Levi, or Matthew, who was a tax collector – and a thief. He threw a big party after he became a Christian. What happened during and after the party? What were the other disciples saying about Jesus’s interaction with sinners?

Jesus still identifies with sinners. That will never change. Amen to that!

Title: Why Would Jesus Be Baptized
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

In the Fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”. Today is the third segment in his sermon entitled “Why Would Jesus Be Baptized”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

This week, Pastor David Fleming is explaining the three reasons why Jesus desired – and was required – to be baptized. Yesterday, he revealed the first reason: to fulfill all righteousness. It was simply the right thing to do.

Another reason Jesus was baptized was to obey His Father. Jesus was following His Father’s command of baptism. Pastor Fleming recounts the story when Jesus (and possibly others) heard God’s voice about his baptism. Scripture References: Psalm 2:7 and Isaiah 42:1.

And finally, Jesus’s baptism signaled the beginning of his public ministry. In fact, Matthew, Mark, and Luke all speak and write of this as a significant moment in history.

So, why do WE need to be baptized? Pastor Fleming offers more “not-so-simple” motives for Jesus’s baptism. Listen in as he explains how we – you, me, our kids, our neighbors, our co-workers, even people we will never meet – are key players in the baptism of Jesus.

Also in this segment: Why do people say “amen”, especially during sermons?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What does “baptize” mean in the New Testament? Is this why Baptists use the method of immersion for baptisms?

Pastor Fleming uses 2 Corinthians 5: 21, Hebrews 4:15, and 1 John 3:5 to explain why Jesus was baptized.

Day 1

In the Fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”. Today is the first segment in his sermon entitled “Why Would Jesus Be Baptized”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

During this first segment, Pastor Fleming shows a video of a young man being baptized who just couldn’t wait a minute longer! You may not be able to “see” the video, but you can certainly “hear” the young man’s enthusiasm!

This week’s Scripture passage is from Matthew 3:13-17, when Jesus approached John the Baptized with the command to baptize him.

Why did Jesus go to John? Shouldn’t it have been the other way around?

If baptism doesn’t “save” a person, why do it?

Why do Baptists use the method of immersion for baptisms? Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming explains further.

In the Fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”. Today is the final segment in Pastor Fleming’s sermon “Time to Turn Your Life Around”, focusing on Matthew chapter 3, verses 1-12. Tune in next week as he presents “Why Would Jesus Be Baptized”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Do you have an urgency to know Jesus? Or are you waiting for the “right time”?

You are not saved because you go to church. You are not saved because you pray. You are not saved because you sing Christian songs.

It cost as much on the cross for a nine-year-old’s sin as a ninety-year-old’s sin,” Pastor Fleming states.

Title: Time to Turn Your Life Around
Topic: Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 4

In the fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”. Today is segment four of “Time to Turn Your Life Around”, focusing on Matthew chapter 3, verses 1-12.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

God is not going to sit idly by and watch you self-destruct. He will stay by you, but He won’t be happy or help you along your way.

Jesus is either a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord of all.

Repentance must include full trust in Jesus Christ – not just a little bit or gradually over time. Full and complete trust immediately.

Don’t miss your exit. Every day you wait, is one more day you might die and spend Eternity in hell.

Day 3

In the Fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”. Today is segment three of “Time to Turn Your Life Around”, focusing on Matthew chapter 3, verses 1-12.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are you unwilling to admit that you are going the wrong direction? Do you have a problem with stopping to ask for directions?

When is the last time you asked God for repentance?

Why should we repent often – even daily?

Pastor Fleming relays a story about a woman who prayed to receive Jesus as her Savior, but had no intention of following through with the next steps. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains why there must always be “next steps”.

Day 2

In the fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”. Today is segment two of “Time to Turn Your Life Around”, focusing on Matthew chapter 3, verses 1-12.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Yesterday we heard of how John the Baptist came to Israel and began preaching the Truth, immediately angering the Pharisees and Sadducees. Listen as Pastor Fleming discusses salvation and repentance, which is the real reason why Jesus came to earth over 2000 years ago.

Pastor Fleming describes repentance as “not the work of man, but the response of man to the work of God…repentance starts with the realization that what I’ve been thinking is wrong”. He has some more excellent comments regarding repentance using Acts 2 as the perfect example.

Is repentance a one-time event?

Is repentance a life-long process?

Where does repentance begin?

Day 1

In the Fall of 2016, Senior Pastor David Fleming at Champion Forest Baptist Church began a fantastic sermon series entitled: “The Gospel According to Matthew”.

This week we will air the first sermon in that series, “Time to Turn Your Life Around”, focusing on Matthew chapter 3, verses 1-12. This is, of course, the famous passage where John the Baptist preaches to the Pharisees and Sadducees before Jesus comes to be baptized and prepare the way.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

It had been 400 years since a Prophet had spoken about the Lord in Israel. Who broke that silence? What was his message? How did he offend the Pharisees and Sadducees? How does Abraham fit with the passage?

Pastor Fleming invites you to Champion Forest this Sunday for services and Life Group Classes for all ages and abilities. More information can be found online at www.ChampionForest.org.
