Title: Clocking In and Out – Til You Die
Topic: Loving Your Job
Discussed by Dr. James Thrasher
with The Institute for Faith and Freedom (www.FaithAndFreedom.com)
“Take this job and love it” is not the mantra of workers in America. In fact, a recent
survey revealed that 70% of America’s workers are so dissatisfied with their jobs that they are looking over their shoulder for a new one.
Dr. James Thrasher is the Senior Advisor to the Vice President for Student Recruitment and the Coordinator of the Institute of Faith and Freedom at
Grove City College. Today, Dr. Thrasher discusses this recent survey and offers some advice to those who wish they had a more satisfying career.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why are so many people dissatisfied with their career? What were the major complaints?
Do many people who question their worthiness end up sick, depressed, divorced, and/or abusing substances? Dr. Thrasher reminds us of the words in Genesis 1 and Ecclesiastes.
Do many people attempt to medicate their problems on their own without medical help?
In Ecclesiastes, did Solomon speak of this challenge? Dr. Thrasher discusses how Solomon was extremely dissatisfied with his life, despite seemingly “having it all”. However, Solomon did eventually discover that labor, apart from God, is futile.
Did Solomon also teach that true happiness and fulfillment without knowing God personally is not possible? (Ecclesiastes 2:24)

Title: Packing It In: You are the “Working Aged”
Topic: Retirement: A New Form of Work
Discussed by Dr. James Thrasher
with The Institute for Faith and Freedom (www.FaithAndFreedom.com)
Dr. James Thrasher is the Senior Advisor to the Vice President for
Student Recruitment at Grove City College and the coordinator of
The Institute for Faith and Freedom. Today, he discusses a recent letter he
received from the HR department from his place of employment about the “working
aged”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Who are the “working aged”? Why did Dr. Thrasher and his wife find this
so funny?
Are we instructed anywhere in the Bible to stop working? Dr. Thrasher discusses
his thoughts on retirement and reveals that the Bible does not specifically
address the topic (except briefly in Numbers). br />
IIs a person’s “usefulness” over at the age of 64 or 65?
Should we allow our age to determine our identity? Dr. Trasher quotes author
Richard J. Leider: “The trouble is: when a number – your age – becomes your
identity, you’ve given away your power to choose your future.”
Why does Dr. Thrasher like the word “repurposement” instead of “retirement”?
When are the “Most Productive Years”?
As Christians, do we ever retire from serving God?

Title: If the Dead Could Speak
Topic: Inspirational and Motivational
Discussed by Dr. James Thrasher
with The Institute for Faith and Freedom (www.FaithAndFreedom.com)
Dr. James Thrasher is the Associate Professor of Biblical and
Religious Studies and Humanities at Grove City College. He recently wrote about visiting his parents’ gravesite and pondered “What would they say to us today?”
Click
here to read more on this from Dr. Thrasher.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why did Dr. Thrasher have a reflective moment about the brevity of life when visiting his parents’ gravesite?
If the dead could speak to us, what would they say?
Why do we fill our lives with hollow cravings and meaningless activities?
Why is it hard for us to remember that earth is not our home? Dr. Thrasher calls us “sojourners on the way to the Celestial City” and “broken people in need of a Savior”. Amen

Title: Why would a pro-football team want Tim Tebow?
Topic: Motivational and Inspirational
Discussed by Dr. James Thrasher
with The Institute for Faith and Freedom (www.FaithAndFreedom.com)
The Jacksonville Jaguars recently hired a new coach, Urban Meyer, to get their
team out of a horrible slump. Urban Meyer, in turn, signed out-spoken Christian
Tim Tebow. Now the media and the left are attacking the team, Meyer, and Tebow
in a ruthless manner.
Dr. James Thrasher
recently wrote about this controversy. He makes this prediction: “Tim Tebow will make the Jags
53-man regular season roster, and the Jags will emerge as a rising NFL
franchise. This will not transpire because of Tebow’s ability to run tight
routes and catch bullet passes, but because of his unmatched ability to
contribute to a transformed team culture. Mark my words, it’s all about
culture.”
Questions/Issues Discussed:
What is “the culture”?
No matter what the team/business/church/family/sports, does the culture dictate
everything from how a team practices and functions to its overall performance?
Does Tim Tebow passionately bring out the best in those around him?
Dr. Thrasher is the Senior Advisor to the Vice President for Student Recruitment
at Grove City College. Is Tim Tebow a student he would recruit based solely on
his leadership skills?

Title: Choosing a Career for 10 Year Olds is a Bad Idea
Topic: Choosing a Career at 10
Discussed by Dr. James Thrasher
with The Institute for Faith and Freedom (www.FaithAndFreedom.com)
Part 1 of 2
The Director of Career Services
with Grove City College, a position he has held for over 20 years, speaks out
against an Obama proposal to place 10-year-olds in career paths based on test
scores, teacher recommendations, and parent interviews.
Most adults have 9 to 10
career changes in a lifetime. Now, our ‘all-knowing-government’ wants to place
our children in a career path at age 10.

Title: Part 2 of 2
Topic: Choosing a Career at 10
Discussed by Dr. James Thrasher
with The Institute for Faith and Freedom (www.FaithAndFreedom.com)
Educrats tout the German model,
which Dr. Thrasher explains, is very rigid and rarely allow for movement out of
a ‘set career path’.
Isn’t it wonderful to live in a country where you can still ask kids, “What do
you want to be when you grow up?” and know they have the F.R.E.E.D.O.M. to
dream.
