Title: There is No “New Normal”
Topic: Family Values
Discussed by Dr. Jane Orient
with Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (www.aapsonline.org)

Dr. Jane Orient recently wrote: “In society, norms may be based on how the majority of people behave. Some variation is “normal.” Customs and fashions change, but basic facts of biology and human nature will reassert themselves if outside pressures to conform to unnatural behavior are removed – unless too much damage has been done.”

Dr. Orient has served as Executive Director for the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons since 1989. She is also the President of Doctors for Disaster Preparedness.

Click here to read Dr. Orient’s op-ed on this important topic.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

COVID ISSUES: Is it normal to wear a face mask, go throughout the day without touching anyone, and stand at least six feet apart?

Is it normal to stay locked indoors, worried you might catch something and die? Dr. Orient points out just a few of the risks we face every day that are greater than the risk of catching COVID. “We cannot improve our chances by staying locked in our houses,” she says. “That will drive us crazy!”

Has the lockdown challenged everyone in some way?

Is it normal for people to bully and/or exclude or malign family members, friends, or even complete strangers for not conforming to “rules”?

Is it normal for government officials to have dictatorial powers? Dr. Orient reminds us that government powers are NEVER good. Amen!

FAMILY ISSUES: Is it normal for those of the opposite sex to be attracted to each other and want to form a union in marriage?

Is the glue that holds society together called marriage/family?

Is there such a place as a “New Utopia” where families do not exist, new humans are grown in test tubes, everybody lives the same, and there is no god? Dr. Orient explains why she believes that “any attempt to form that is going to rapidly prove to be disastrous”.

In Dr. Orient’s opinion, what will the “new normal” look like in a year or two?

Title: How to Strengthen Your Family
Topic: Family Values
Discussed by John Horvat
with Return to Order www.ReturnToOrder.org

Part 1 of 2

Progressive educators are obsessed with common curriculum, testing, and student outcomes that conform to progressive ideas. But who changed how reading, math, and history should be taught? Who holds the power over parents and their children?

John Horvat, author of Return to Order, explains how government programs are not helping children. “We are putting children through one-size-fits-all programs like Common Core or No Child Left Behind. Changing curriculum is not the answer. It has to do with the family.” He believes that values should be taught by the parents and only enforced by the schools.

John discusses four ways you can strengthen your family: 1) Family dinners; 2) Bedtime stories; 3) Church and Religious Observance; and 4) Stay involved in everything. Kids with parents who are really involved in their lives do better in school, usually go to college, and are less likely to experiment with sex, drugs, and alcohol. Listen in as he explains each in more detail.

John also suggests asking your kids, especially your teens, open-ended questions, rather than yes or no-type questions. Encourage thought provoking answers from them, and offer insight into your day as well. They might not say they are interested, but they really are.
