Title: Prepared for Battle
Topic: Ephesians Sermon Series 2025
Discussed by Pastor Scott Riling
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

Battling spiritual warfare is vastly different than a physical or even emotional battle. But how can we prepare for spiritual warfare?

Over the past three months, Pastor Jarrett Stephens has been offering hope and encouragement from the Book of Ephesians as we discover our true identity in Christ and how it effects our daily life.

This week, Pastor Scott Riling closes out the series preaching on God’s armor for believers.

Pastor Scott is the Biblical Counseling Pastor at CFBC.

Ephesians 6:10-23

Find Pastor Scott Riling’s sermon here.

Find Pastor Scott Riling’s sermon notes here.

If you have questions about a sermon, please contact Champion Forest at questions@cfbc.org

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

How can prayer help us during spiritual warfare? Is constant prayer really that important? Should we pray for others, as well? Does prayer give us (and others) encouragement and hope for the future? Is there an “expiration date” on spiritual warfare? (vs 18-24)

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Spiritual warfare is real, but so is the victory already won in Christ. With God's armor, we do not merely survive the battle – we stand firm, press forward, and shine as lights in a dark world.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

What do we need during our battle with spiritual warfare? (vs 13-17) Does the devil use our past to try and break us down? How can we prepare? What is our armor? What is the belt of truth? (John 8:31-32) What is the breastplate of righteousness? What are the shoes of the Gospel of peace? What is the shield of faith? (1 Thessalonians 5:8) What is the helmet of salvation? What is the sword of the spirit? (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16)

How can prayer help us during spiritual warfare? Is constant prayer really that important? Should we pray for others, as well?

Who is the enemy? Is he omniscient and omnipresent like God or does he send his minions to do his dirty work? Can the devil really put thoughts in our head? Day 5

Are you pleasing the Lord in your home? Are you pleasing the Lord in your workplace? Are you pleasing the Lord as a child of God?

Pastor Jarrett Stephens is nearing the end of the 12-week sermon series on the Book of Ephesians. In this series, he and others from CFBC have been offering hope and encouragement as we discover our true identity in Christ and how it effects our daily life.

This week, Pastor Jarrett preaches on the importance of children honoring and obeying their parents. But not only children! Adults are called to exhibit this toward others, as well, especially in the workplace.

Ephesians 6:1-9

If you have questions about a sermon, please contact Champion Forest at questions@cfbc.org

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett completed his thoughts on parents’ responsibility to show their love, trust, and faithfulness toward God through their own obedience and honor in ALL situations – not just when life is great.

SINCERE SERVICE

How can we exhibit obedience and honor in the workplace?

Did Paul condone slavery? Pastor Jarrett shares some cultural facts on this sensitive issue.

But, what if we don’t “like” our boss? (Colossians 3:23-24)

Will we be blessed if we obey and honor our boss and even our co-workers?

Are you working with joy and love?

But, what if we are the “boss”? How should we treat our employees?

FINAL THOUGHTS: Nothing matters more than pleasing the Lord.

(Colossians 3:21) He also shares a story about his own father that I’m sure we all can relate to in one way or another.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett began explaining why Paul stressed the importance of children obeying and honoring their parents, which will ultimately (hopefully) lead to obedience and honor to God.

OBEY AND HONOR

What gave Paul the authority to write about obedience and honor? He was single and didn’t have any kids! So, how did he know what God wanted?

Will we be blessed when/if we obey and honor our parents – no matter our age? (Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16)

Why is it our responsibility as parents to obey and honor God? How can we show our children (and others) the love of Christ through our obedience and honor? Pastor Jarrett reminds us that we are to obey and honor no matter what. It doesn’t matter the situation we are in. It doesn’t matter if life is good or bad. We are to obey and honor. Period. End of discussion.

OBEY AND HONOR

What did Paul mean when he wrote about “obedience”? Does obedience please the Lord? (Colossians 3:20) Pastor Jarrett explains the culture of the time and why Paul’s words that were directed to the children were so powerful.

Do (most) parents really know what’s best for their children? Do (most) parents have their children’s best interest at heart? What did Paul mean when he wrote about “honor”? (Exodus 20:12) Pastor Jarrett reminds us that Paul was a single man and didn’t have any children. So where was he getting this knowledge about obedience and honor?

Why should husbands exhibit a “sacrificial love”? Tony Evans: “When your wife looks at you, does she see a cross?”

Why should husbands exhibit a “selfless love”?

Why was Adam given the command to not eat of the Tree of Good and Evil? Was Adam with Eve when the serpent tempted her? Why didn’t Adam protect his woman?

Why should husbands exhibit a “sustaining love”?

BOTTOM LINE: Men, protect your wives like your life depends on it – because it does!

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett urged us to not think of submission as an archaic or outdated way of thinking. On the contrary, we are to view submission as a form of worship to God! Because, after all, Satan does all he can to distort, devalue, and dishonor marriage, which always leads to chaos. Today, he completes his thoughts on this, reminding women who are in an abusive relationship that God does NOT wish them harm and that God wants them to seek help immediately.

SUBMISSION: The Role of the Wife

Why are wives called to submit to their husbands? Isn’t this an archaic thought? Are women still required to do this today according to Scripture?

What does “submission” mean? Pastor Jarrett says: “Submission is making the choice to put yourself under others.”

What did Peter say about submission? (1 Peter 3)

Is submitting to another person, especially a spouse, a form of suppression or inferiority?

Are all women meant/called to submit to all men? Pastor Jarrett has a great answer for this!

Why does Satan do all he can to distort, devalue, and dishonor marriage? Does this then lead to chaos? (Hebrews 13:4)

Why did God create marriage? Is there a purpose to marriage beyond two people who love each other spending their lives together?

When we do finally fully submit to the Holy Spirit, what does it affect? Pastor Jarrett discusses our speech, attitude, and relationship. He also explains above-the-surface and below-the-surface issues.

Why are Christians called to be different than the world? How can we move from darkness to light? (2 Corinthians 6:14b)

What did the apostle Paul write about the same subject? (1 John 3:4-10)

Pastor Jarrett gets very personal at this moment in his sermon, urging us to really examine our lives. Is there an area of habitual sin in your life? Are you actively trying to resist that sin? Or are you living in your flesh? Are you living in darkness? Or are you living in a manner that exposes the darkness?

How can Scripture help us walk in love? (John 15:12-13; 1 Corinthians 13:1-7; 1 John 4:7-8,11-12)

HOW TO MIRROR THE MASTER: Walk in Light

What is the opposite of light? Darkness! And darkness is sin! Pastor Jarrett passionately preaches about the sins of sexual immorality, impurity, and covetousness, saying: “There shouldn’t even be a hint of any of these things in your life.”

Why are Christians called to be different than the world? How can we move from darkness to light? (2 Corinthians 6:14b)

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

Day 2

IS THE AROMA OF YOUR LIFE PLEASING TO GOD?

Pastor Jarrett Stephens is nearing the end of the 12-week sermon series on the Book of Ephesians. In this series, he and others from CFBC are offering hope and encouragement as we discover our true identity in Christ and how it effects our daily life.

This week, Pastor Jarrett Stephens shares how walking in love, light, and wisdom help us live a life that is truly pleasing to God.

Ephesians 5:1-21

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Who is the first Adam? What did he do? Who is the second Adam? What did he do?

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, what happens? (Ephesians 4:24)

HOW TO MIRROR THE MASTER: Walk in Love

How is God love? How does He demonstrate love? (Colossians 1:15a; Hebrews 1:3a)

WHY are we to demonstrate love? WHO are we to demonstrate love toward? HOW are we to demonstrate love?

Why did Jesus “give himself up for us”? (Ephesians 5:25; John 10:14-15)

The world tells us to only care about “me me me”. How should Christians respond to that way of thinking? Pastor Jarrett says: “When you walk in love, the ‘me-monster’ disappears because walking in love is giving of yourself… It means voluntarily giving up what may be good for us in order to meet the needs of someone else.”

How can Scripture help us walk in love?

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

Who was your hero growing up? Did you have a favorite super hero? Pastor Jarrett shares about his obsession with super heroes as a child.

Why should we fill our minds with positivity? Why should Christ-followers study Scripture? Why should we pray and surround ourselves with other believers? Pastor Jarrett reminds us that Paul knew Scripture backward and forward and often quoted or referenced the Old Testament in his writings.

Did God create us for a specific purpose? (Genesis 1:26-27) Pastor Jarrett reminds us of our purpose on earth and what ultimately separated us from God and why He had to send His son, Jesus, to die on a cross for us. But now it’s our turn – our turn to get back to why God created us in the first place.

Day 5

Pastor Jarrett Stephens is in the middle of a twelve-week sermon series on the Book of Ephesians. In this series, he and others from CFBC will offer hope and encouragement as we discover our true identity in Christ and how it effects our daily life.

This week, Pastor Jarrett wants to know if you’re really on Team Jesus. Are you unified with other believers? Are you maturing in your faith and helping others grow, too?

NOTE: This sermon was preached on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Scripture Passage: Ephesians 4:1-16

If you have questions about a sermon, please contact Champion Forest at questions@cfbc.org

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett discussed the first of three marks of maturity: how we think. Today, he completes his thoughts on the importance of watching how we speak to and love one other. Check out our archives to get caught up if you missed that segment.

How to Speak (vs 15)

Should Christians “put someone in their place”?

Should Christians be rude or mean when correcting or pointing out sin?

How did Paul urge us to speak to others?

How to Love (vs 16)

What does love look like?

Is love merely words – or actions, too?

Will an argument ever convince someone that Jesus is love?

FUN FACT: The word “love” is written 13 times in the book of Ephesians! It must be important!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Unity and maturity. For the sake of Team Jesus, let’s make sure we are fighting for both.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

MATURITY (vs 7-16)

What are “equipping gifts” (vs 11-12)? Are we commanded to use our equipping gifts?

Who is really in charge of Team Jesus? Who is on the field? Who is in the dugout, cheering on the team? Do we all have something to contribute? Pastor Jarrett briefly talked about this yesterday, but expands on the Team today.

What is the purpose of Team Jesus? Are we really commanded to use our spiritual gifts to further God’s Kingdom? (vs 13)

What does maturity in Christ look like? How do we know if we are “mature in Christ”? (vs 14-16) Pastor Jarrett discusses the first of three marks of maturity: how we think. Tune in tomorrow as he completes his thoughts on the importance of watching how we speak to and love one another.

UNITY (vs 1-6)

Why did Jesus pray for unity? (John 17)

Is unity possible within the Church without humility, gentleness, or patience? Pastor Jarrett takes a few minutes to remind us that Jesus exhibited all three – and so should we.

Commentator A. Skevington Wood: “The absence of these qualities may jeopardize Christian unity. That is why Paul presses his readers to exert all their powers to maintain the oneness in Christ that binds all believers to each other because they are bound by him and to him.”

FUNT FACT: Paul wrote the word “one” SEVEN times in verses 4-6.

Discussed by Pastor Jarrett Stephens
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 4

Pastor Jarrett Stephens is in the middle of a twelve-week sermon series on the Book of Ephesians. In this series, he and others from CFBC will offer hope and encouragement as we discover our true identity in Christ and how it effects our daily life.

This week, Pastor Jarrett encourages us to dig deep and discover our true calling in building the Kingdom.

Scripture Passage: Ephesians 3:1-13

If you have questions about a sermon, please contact Champion Forest at questions@cfbc.org

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett discussed the responsibility that Paul received from God. (1 Timohty 1:15)

Today, he discusses our responsibility as Christians and Church members and how we should respond to Paul’s revelation.

Think about your calling. What would you write on your card? What are you focused on? What are you passionate about? What is God calling you to do for the Kingdom?

Think about the Church. Why is the Church important? Why is your church important? How can the Church help grow our faith? How can WE help the Church help others in their faith?

Be committed to both. What on earth are you living for? Do you have a high commitment to the calling God has placed on your life? Are you committed to the body of Christ OR are you just a casual attender?

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

PAUL’S REVELATION FROM GOD:

Why did Paul tell the people of Ephesus about his revelation from God?

Were there others who received divine revelation from God? (Genesis 12:1-3; Isaiah 49:6; Genesis 1:13; Acts 9:15)

Why did Paul travel to the Arabian Desert? What did he write about his time in the desert? How did his faith grow? (Galatians 1:15-17)

PAUL’S RESPONSIBILITY FROM GOD:

What was the responsibility Paul received from God?

Why did he feel the need to share this responsibility with the people in Ephesus? Was he bragging or just encouraging them to do the same? (1 Timohty 1:15)

BLESSING #6: We are sealed. (vs 13-14)

What does being “sealed” mean? Pastor Jarrett compares this to kings sealing a letter with their signet ring.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, text the word JESUS to 77069 and a pastor or counselor from CFBC will call you back.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

BLESSINGS #1 AND #2: We are chosen and adopted. (vs 3-6)

How and why does God choose people to be part of His Kingdom? Remember: EVERYONE is chosen – no matter what! It’s OUR choice, though, whether or not we accept the invitation. Pastor Jarrett briefly discusses predestination and prevenient grace, using a great quote by AW Tozer and an even better one from Jesus (John 6:44a).

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Why did Paul’s preaching ignite a riot in Ephesus?

Why did Paul love the church and the people in Ephesus so much? Did the people love Paul just as much as he loved them? (Acts 20:28-38)

Where and when did Paul write the letter to the people of Ephesus? What is the point of the letter? Why is the beginning of the letter (vs 1-2) so important?

BLESSINGS #1 AND #2: We are chosen and adopted. (vs 3-6)

More on this tomorrow.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

What was the city of Ephesus like? Where was it located? Was it an important city? Why was it called the “Gateway of Asia”? Was Ephesus full of culture and architecture? Pastor Jarrett shares all the historical details.

Why did Paul visit Ephesus? Who was with him? Why did he leave quickly after arriving? Where did he go when he left? What was the purpose of Paul’s trip to the church in Ephesus? Why did Paul spend more time, over the years, in Ephesus than any other church? (Acts 19:10) Pastor Jarrett discusses Paul’s journey as he shares about “sending churches” that CFBC is part of.
