He received a message behind the miracle. Was the man’s life truly changed?

Is the world going crazy? Is America going crazy? Pastor Powell suggests sending the leadership of Champion Forest Baptist Church to Washington, DC to replace Congress. Great idea!

Find Dr. Dan Darling’s sermon here.

If you have questions about a sermon, please contact Champion Forest at questions@cfbc.org

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

What is the primary way that an unbelieving world is attracted to Jesus? Our friendships with other believers! (John 13:35) Dr. Darling says: “Love for our fellow Christians is one of the most visible ways we witness. HOW TO SHOW LOVE:
Be willing to say “I’m sorry”.
Overlook quirks and flaws that are annoying, but not permanent.
Encourage more than you rebuke.
Choose accountability over suspicion.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Friends will let us down, but Jesus never will.

CHARACTERISTICS OF LOVE:

Love does not delight in evil. Love grieves over evil.

Love rejoices in truth. Love praises truth.

Love believes all things. Love gives the benefit of the doubt. Dr. Darling takes a minute to talk about the dangers of social media…

How can friendships be a gift to us and others? Are all friendships perfect? How can we learn to tolerate each other’s quirks and imperfection?

How did Jesus feel about friendships? How did Jesus love his friends? How did he compare friendships to the Church?

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Is it sometimes necessary to break away from toxic people in order to love them better? How can tough love be helpful? Dr. Darling explains that sometimes we must communicate hard truths to people we love dearly.

What does love require of us? What does love look like? (1 Corinthians 13)

In his book, “The Mark of a Christian”, Francis A. Schaeffer wrote: “The world must observe that when we must differ with each other as true Christians, we must do it not because we love the smell of blood, the smell of the arena, the smell of the bullfight, but because we must for God’s sake.”

Why the Church is Important: Jesus Builds the Church

When was the first time Jesus used the word “Church”? (Matthew 16:13-18)

What does “Church” mean in Greek?

Was this a new concept to the people?

Who is part of the Church? (2 Timothy 2:19; Revelation 21:27)

Is God still building His Church? (Revelation 7:9-10)

Why the Church is Important: Jesus Bought the Church

What was the cost for our salvation? Must we pay something to receive God’s grace and mercy? How did Jesus pay for our salvation? (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 1:18-19; Revelation 5:9)

Day 5

Pastor Jarrett Stephens continues in the sermon series “These Things Never Change: What We Believe and Why it Matters”. This week, he preaches on how God’s Word is inspired, credible, and authoritative.

Find Pastor Jarrett’s sermon here.

If you have questions about a sermon, please contact Champion Forest at questions@cfbc.org

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

GOD’S WORD IS AUTHORITATIVE

Reformer Martin Luther once said: “When Scripture speaks, God speaks.”

How do we know that the Bible is the “final word”?

Why should we be careful to not live by our feelings – our emotions?

Why should we be careful to not change the words of the Bible to suit what we want?

Why should we be careful to not listen to the world’s interpretation of the Bible?

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Embrace the Word of God.

Consume the Word of God.

Obey the Word of God.

Isaiah 40:8
Acts 4:12
Jeremiah 23:29

2 Samuel 7:28
John 17:17

Pastor Jarrett says this about the Bible’s impact on our lives: “When we read the Bible, it reads us!”

Why is the Bible important? How do we know the Bible is true? Pastor and author W.A. Criswell  once stated: “You wouldn’t know God without the Book. You wouldn’t know Jesus Christ – not even his name – without the Book. You’d have no assurance of salvation or of heaven without the Book. Our whole life and hope lies in the promise and assurance and revelation of the Lord God written here in the Book.”

How does God communicate with us through Scripture? What other ways does God communicate with us?

If you have questions about a sermon, please contact Champion Forest at questions@cfbc.org

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett discussed why The Trinity matters and how The Trinity affects us as Christians, preaching about suffering and sanctifications. Today, he discusses “stances”: where Christians need to draw the line in the sand.

OUR STANCES:

Why do Christians need to stick to the morals and ethics of the Bible – even if it goes against what others say is “right”?

Are other religions, like Islam and Mormonism, wrong?

Should Christians be vocal on issues like homosexuality, transgenderism, and abortion? YES! Pastor Jarrett explains why and how these issues affect the Triune God.

OUR SANCTIFICATION:

What happens when we accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior? Can we “lose” our salvation? Will every person one day meet God face to face? How can the Holy Spirit guide our steps through God’s Word? (Philippians 1:6)

Why is doctrine essential to our faith? Why must we have a strong foundation set in God’s Word to grow as a Christian? Pastor Jarrett begins the sermon sharing about his recent trip to Florida and seeing the remains of the Surfside Condo collapse which killed 98 people due to poor structural support.

What is the Great Commandment (Mark 12:29-30)? Why is the Great Commandment the core doctrine of our faith?

Why is The Trinity so difficult to understand? Why is it a divine mystery? (Deuteronomy 29:29a) St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo said of The Trinity: “Avoid the subject, you will lose your soul. If you try to understand it, you will lose your mind.” English Theologian John Wesley said of The Trinity: “Bring me a worm that can comprehend a man, and then I will show you a man that can comprehend the Triune God.”

If you have questions about a sermon, please contact Champion Forest at questions@cfbc.org

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

SO WHY DOES DOCTRINE MATTER?
Yesterday, Pastor Jarrett revealed the first three reasons why doctrine matters: we are commanded to teach it, it can lead to salvation, and it builds us up. It refutes heresy. Paul referred to heresy as gangrene – disease! Why should we be careful about what doctrine we learn and listen to? Should we double check what we learn through the Scriptures? (1 Timothy 6:20-21)
It helps people from drifting spiritually. Why is it dangerous to drift away from sound doctrine? (2 Timothy 4:1-4)

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Come to church hungry. Take notes. Engage in Scripture. Listen intently and without distractions.
Come to church humbly. Bow your heart, mind, and will to the Truth of God’s Word.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

J.I. Packer “Knowing God”: “If we pursue theological knowledge for its own sake, it is bound to go bad on us. It will make us proud and conceited. The very greatness of the subject matter will intoxicate us, and we shall come to think of ourselves as a cut above other Christians because of our interest in it and grasp of it.

SO WHY DOES DOCTRINE MATTER?
It is commanded that we teach it. Must a person be a preacher or theologian in order to teach doctrine? NOPE! (Titus 2:1)
It can lead to salvation. Is eternity really at stake when we teach doctrine? (1 Timothy 4:16; James 3:1)
It builds up believers. Is it important for Christians to encourage each other through Biblical doctrine? (Titus 1:9)

Are “liberal” churches/preachers dangerous? Pastor Jarrett passionately reminds us that, more often than not, God blames spiritual leaders who have neglected or forsaken truth for the moral and spiritual decline of a people. (1 Timothy 3:15)

What does “theology” mean? “The study of theology is an effort to make definitive statements about God and His implications in an accurate, coherent, relevant way based on God’s self-revelations. Meaningful relationship with God is dependent on correct knowledge of Him.” – ESV Study Bible
