Part 1 of 3

Do physicians have a legal and ethical duty to carry out a proper diagnostic evaluation of their patients and recommend treatment?

Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet is the past Director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS). She speaks as an independent physician, not as an official spokesperson for any organization or political party. Dr. Vliet has no ties to any health care system or health insurance plan. Her allegiance and advocacy is to and for her patients.

Has the knee-jerk response to the Parkland shooting been exactly like the reactions to other killings by mentally disturbed persons?

How many times was Nikolas Cruz in contact with the police department regarding his behavior? Did the FBI know? How much did the school know about his violent threats and mental illness?

Should the police department, FBI, and school district be legally responsible for Cruz’s attack?

Do most states have laws which require medical professionals report mental illness to the authorities? Do law enforcement representatives have similar responsibilities?

Title: Dilemmas in Healthcare
Topic: Physicians and Ethics
Discussed by Dr. Gene Rudd
with Christian Medical and Dental Association www.CMDA.org

Part 1 of 2

Few professions invoke such a sweeping array of ethical questions as medicine. Although ethics may factor into life-and-death decisions, they can also play a role in everyday decision-making, such as whether or not to accept a lunch invitation from a pharmaceutical representative or ask a former patient on a date. On many of these issues, physicians are sharply divided.

Dr. Gene Rudd, with the Christian Medical and Dental Association, discusses the various “treats” pharama reps often dangle in front of doctors in order for them to push their product. Doctors do not have time to research everything about every drug that every rep gives to them; it is very tempting to accept a lunch meeting or a weekend get-away in exchange.

Another issue which causes ethical questions to come to light is dating a patient or former patient. Listen in as Dr. Rudd explains this dilemma and why or why not it might or might not be acceptable. He also suggests some simple solutions to help doctors in the process.

Did you know that six (6) U.S. states have laws permitting physician-assisted suicide? Doctors – like much of the general public – are deeply divided over the issue. A slim majority of doctors (54%) say they favor allowing physician-assisted suicide. Still, a passionate minority (31%) protest that assisted suicide violates the Hippocratic Oath. Dr. Rudd explains that most of the physicians who are in support of physician-assisted suicide are in the younger generation. Why?

Make sure you listen in to the next segment with Dr. Gene Rudd as he discusses pro-life issues, concerning abortion, children receiving (not refusing) chemotherapy, and end-of-life care.

Title: Part 2 of 2 - Dilemmas in Healthcare
Topic: Physicians and Ethics

Dr. Gene Rudd says that the new Congress – and every Congress – should advocate for life, whether or not they believe they have the votes to pass a bill or not. It shouldn’t matter if there is a chance that the President will veto the bill – do it anyway. Protect life – always.

Listen in as Dr. Gene Rudd reminds us who we are – as Christians, as Americans, as Patriots. Click [here] for more on this and other medical issues.
