Title: Being Free in Christ
Topic: Christian Apologetics
Discussed by Emerson Collins
with Bring Your Bible to School Day (www.BringYourBible.org)

Galatians 5:1 “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

Emerson Collins serves as the project manager for Bring Your Bible to School Day and the Live it Challenge, both projects of Focus on the Family. Today, Emerson offers insight into what freedom in Christ and freedom from sin truly mean.

Click here for more information about Bring Your Bible to School Day.

Click here  for more information about the Live it Challenge.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Unlike many countries around the world, we are free in America. What does this mean to Emerson?

In the Galatians verse, what does “slavery” mean? (Hebrews 12:1)

What is wrong with the “if it feels good, do it” mentality that so many in America have today? Emerson explains why he says: “The freedom in Christ is actually the freedom to obey.”

Being a Christian is hard. Accepting Jesus doesn’t make our life “perfect”. Is this why it is important to study our Bible and make life changes? (Romans 13:12-14)

How did the death of Jesus on the cross free us from the “yoke of slavery”?

Title: Prayer
Topic: Prayer
Discussed by Emerson Collins
with Bring Your Bible to School Day (www.BringYourBible.org)

Dear Gracious and Loving Heavenly Father,

Lord, I am so thankful for your goodness towards us here in this country that I even have the opportunity to pray protected by our legal system – by my rights. Lord, that is not an opportunity that is available in many other countries. So, I thank you for that.

Lord, I lift up the National Day of Prayer to you. I ask, Lord, that you would encourage many Christians across this nation, Father, to be a bold light for Christ and a witness to those who have not yet seen him or known him.

Lord, I pray for our leaders. I ask, God, that you would bring conviction where conviction is needed and bring encouragement where encouragement is needed. Lord, may you be glorified in how we run this country.

Lord I also pray for the youth – this next generation rising up. Lord, I ask firstly that they would know you and they would know you intimately, that Christ would reign supreme in their hearts. And that they would desire to see him lifted on high. And, Lord, I ask that you would protect them from the evil one who seeks to kill and destroy. Lord, protect our youth, I ask in Jesus’ name.

Lord, I also pray that you would equip them on the National Day of Prayer to encourage their friends and their families to partake in this event and to love you more, Father, that you may receive all the glory.

I pray this in your name, Jesus Christ.

Amen
