QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

Why do we “celebrate” the resurrection of Jesus? (Philippians 2)

What is the “day of the Lord”? Why was there so much confusion at the time of Jesus about the “last day”? Pastor Jarrett reads from the focused Scripture passage for this week and explains why he usually reads these verses at funeral or graveside services.

Why does the Good News demand a response?

What are the two responses people have to the Gospel – to the Good News? Pastor Jarrett believes they are either hardened by it or they are humbled by it.

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

PROOF OF THE RESURRECTION: Testimony of Changed Lives

How was Paul’s life radically changed after meeting Jesus?
How many disciples died a martyr’s death for following Jesus?
Would you follow someone faithfully if you thought they were living/teaching a lie?
Why did the people stop worshipping God on the Sabbath and change to the first day of the week?

New Testament Scholar NT Wright: “If it was only an empty tomb and there had been no sighting, people would have believed the body was stolen. If there were only eyewitnesses who claimed to see Jesus, but the tomb still had a body in it, then people would have believed the eyewitnesses were hallucinating… But only I all these were true – the empty tomb, eyewitness accounts, and changed lives – could Christianity ever have begun. Thus, the resurrection must have been true.”

Pastor and Author Tim Keller: “If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said. If he didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teachings, but whether or not he rose from the dead.”

Why does the Resurrection of Jesus matter? Why must we all accept his words? (John 14:6; John 11:25-26)

QUESTIONS / ISSUES DISCUSSED:

HOW IS THE RESURRECTION THE BEST GOOD NEWS EVER? Jesus was buried.
Why did Paul want to stress to the people that Jesus was buried in the tomb?
Does this “prove” that Jesus really did die and that he wasn’t just “asleep”? (John 19:38-42)
Why did Jesus even have to be buried? Why didn’t they leave him on the cross after his death? (1 Corinthians 17-19)

PROOF OF THE RESURRECTION: Testimony of Scripture

Was the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus prophesied over and over again in the Bible?
Did Jesus predict his own death? (Luke 18:31-33)

PROOF OF THE RESURRECTION: Testimony of Eyewitnesses

How many people saw Jesus after his death and burial?
What was written by witnesses about Jesus being alive after his death and burial? (2 Peter 1:16)

PROOF OF THE RESURRECTION: Testimony of Changed Lives
