Title: WARNING! Con Men Posing as Police Officers
Topic: WARNING! Con Men Posing as Police Officers
Discussed by Chris Daniel
with Elected Officials
Warning! Across America, con men are posing as police officers and official county employees.
Harris County District Clerk, Chris Daniel, is here today to discuss the scary details and how you can protect yourself from the costly scam.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Is this new scam just centralized to Harris County? Or is it nationwide? Chris Daniel calls this a “precise, intricate, high-level” scam.
How are the scammers obtaining the names of not only the victims but the employees of the County District Clerk’s office?
Are the scammers domestic or foreign-based? NOTE: This appears to be multiple groups, not just one! Listen in as Chris gives more details about what they know, including information about a man who was already in prison!
Chris also says that it is important to remember that “no agency is going to call you to tell you that you have failed to appear for jury service and if you do not pay such-and-such agency money right now you’re going to go to jail.” This is not the procedure for any agency no matter where they are located.
Harris County residents who have been contacted by the con men may call the District Clerk’s Office at 713-755-7300 or the Sheriff’s Office at 713-274-9210.
