Title: Ways to a Better December
Topic: A Better December
Discussed by Pastor Steve Estes
with Pastor Steve Estes

Part 1 of 3

In Proverbs, Solomon advises us to be friendly and neighborly; not just with people we know, but with everyone.

The man down the street whose wife took the kids is hurting. The cashier who barely looked you in the eye this morning is hurting. The woman you ride the bus with every day, but never talk to, is hurting.

This Christmas, how will you show others who Jesus is? Listen in as Pastor Steve Estes tells us how to make this a better December.

with Spring Baptist Church (www.springbaptist.org)

In this segment, Pastor Steve covers Proverbs 27:20 and Proverbs 30:7-9. How do these two verses apply to Christmas and being neighborly and friendly to those around us?

Host’s Side Note: We may not be able to do much, but we can all do some. Has your family ever “adopted” a family at Christmas time? There is no better time to start than this year! If you cannot do it all, join with others and really bless the socks off someone who is hurting.

You do not often think of the book of Proverbs at Christmastime, but Pastor Steve says “why not”?

This time of year, most people just “talk the talk” and do not “walk the walk” when it comes to giving. Do not feel like you must help others out of guilt. Do it with a cheerful heart. I guarantee you will never regret it!

Christmas is meant to be a joyful season, but for many, it only reminds them of hard financial times, the death of a parent, or the loss of a friendship. How do you stay positive during all the hustle and bustle?

Does your barista need an extra smile and a little better tip? Maybe your child’s teacher has been having a rough week. Send her an encouraging note, along with a gift card to a local restaurant. Send your pastor an email, telling him what a blessing he and his family are to you.

These little things, especially at Christmastime, can mean all the difference in the world.
Listen in to hear more.

Solomon said: “You can make many plans, but God’s purpose will prevail”. So what if Christmas isn’t perfect? So what if dessert is an epic fail? So what if you don’t have as much money as last year? There is usually someone who is worse off than you are. Do you know a single mom who can barely make ends meet and won’t be able to afford a single Christmas present? Is there a widow at your church who doesn’t have family nearby and will be alone on Christmas Day? Invite them to your house for a celebration. Take them food and gift cards. Listen in for more on what Solomon said in Proverbs about Christmas and the birth of Jesus.
