Part 1 of 2

In 1977, the Texas legislature passed the Texas Sunset Act which was designed to forever improve state government. Every agency, every commission, every board is automatically Sunset every 10 years and its very existence must be approved by the legislature.

Even though 78 state agencies have been abolished, saving taxpayers over $945 million dollars, has the Sunset Commission been overrun by government bureaucrats who, by design, are hell-bent on growing government.

The Texas Sunset Commission puts pressure on agencies to justify their regulations, expenditures, and existence.

Bill Peacock explains how the bureaucrats hired to run the Sunset Commission now mirror the population of the Austin Area: liberal to ultra-liberal. Have you ever met a liberal wanting to cut the size and scope of government?

Hence the problem, the worker bees are recommending more honey for the agencies they were to review for their very existence.
