Title: Consumers are Unaware Allstate is Tracking Them!
Topic: Consumer Tips
Discussed by Hans von Spakovsky
with The Heritage Foundation (www.Heritage.org)
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed suit against Allstate
Insurance Company, alleging that they acquired GPS tracking data from a number
of companies to build driving patterns. Did author George Orwell address this
type of behavior in his book “1984”?
Today, Hans von Spakovsky discusses this lawsuit and how consumers can protect
themselves from being taken advantage of in the future. Hans von Spakovsky is a
senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
How are people tracked through smart phones and other electronic devices?
Hans
von Spakovsky discusses how Allstate is using OTHER APPS to acquire data on you!
What data has Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton alleged that Allstate is
collecting? Is it simply driving habits? Or does it go deeper than that?
Did Allstate also purchase data directly from car manufacturers, including
Toyota, Lexus, Mazda, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, and Ram?
What is Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s goal from this lawsuit? How will
consumers be compensated?
How can we protect ourselves from the spying eyes of others? Hans von Spakovsky
encourages everyone to remove third-party apps that are listed in the lawsuit
from their phone and to NOT use Allstate for their insurance needs. NOTE: The
third-party apps listed in the lawsuit can be found in Hans von Spakovsky’s
op-ed, which is linked above.

A friend of the What's UP Radio Program, Joe Emmitte, shares advice on how to hire a contractor. We are called to be cautious and carefull before we invite a paid worker on to our property. And, before we pay money to someone we do not know, what should we do? Give Joe a call @ 866.410.4105 or log onto the web @ www.dicss.net.
