Title: Texas Legislature Pushing the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association to Turn Its Back on Texans
Topic: Texas Windstorm Insurance Association
Discussed by Alex Winslow
with Texas Watch (www.TexasWatch.org)
Over one-hundred
thousand homeowners and business owners had their property damaged by Hurricane
Ike. Tens of thousands still have not been ‘made whole’. Why is
the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association dragging its feet? Beware: Insurance
companies, by and large a fair when a storm causes damage. But some pull out the
old playbook:
1. First, simply deny.
2. If the homeowner/ business owner continues to press for payment, they then
begin to delay.
3. After delaying as long as possible, some insurance companies then pull out
their last play:
4. offer a low-ball settlement (underpay).
