Title: Are We Created to Serve?
Topic: Inspirational and Motivational
Discussed by Karla Akins
with Karla Akins (www.karlaakins.com)
It's the church's responsibility to "speak up for those who
cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute" (Prov.
31:8). If the church doesn't answer the call, how can we expect the world not to discriminate?
Karla Akins is a pastor’s wife who rides her own motorcycle. She is the mother of four boys (two who are autistic) and one step-daughter, and grandmother of seven. Karla and her husband have been in ministry together for 35 years.
Today, Karla will be discussing how God created each of us for a specific purpose to further His Kingdom.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Are we all called to serve somewhere – somehow – to further the God’s Kingdom?
Can those who are labeled “differently abled” still serve in the church? One book Karla Akins has written is entitled “A Pair of Miracles”, which is about her two adult autistic sons. One chapter centers on their desire to serve others. How and where do they serve in the church and the community?
Do we all have assignments from God?
Are those who do not serve others missing out on amazing blessings?
Can we be too old or too young to serve others? Karla says, “As long as there is a breath in you, there is something for you to do.”
How should the church encourage those with disabilities?
