Title: Dad, What is Important to YOU?
Topic: Father’s Day
Discussed by Bill Courtney
with Against the Grain (www.CoachBillCourtney.com)

Part 1 of 2

Bill Courtney is famously known for turning a group of inner-city Memphis teens into a highly motivated football team. “Undefeated” is an Academy award-winning movie about his inspiring story.

Bill says that Father’s Day should be a time for dad’s to reflect on what is really important to them. Yes, fathers are usually the bread-winner in the family. Yes, fathers must often work late and might miss half of baseball season. Yes, fathers often-times just want to rest on the couch at the end of a long day and not play dress-up with their 3 year old princess.

Bill challenges fathers to really dig deeper, though. Listen in to hear what he has to say.

Dads – are you teaching your kids the right values? I mean – really, really teaching them? Are you leading my example? Or are you a “do as I say, not as I do” kind of dad?Guest Bill Courtney is not trying to make you feel. We are human. We are not perfect. As dads, we will mess up. A lot. Bill says there are certain aspects of raising children that dads should really focus on.

For example, are you showing your children the value of hard work by encouraging them to earn their own money? Are you teaching them to live up to their commitments by not letting them quit ballet mid-year? Here’s a kicker: Do you tell your children you are sorry when you do mess up?
