Topic: Coronavirus
Discussed by Dr. Bret Nicks Nicks
with Christian Medical and Dental Association www.CMDA.org

Dr. Bret Nicks is a member with the Christian Medical and Dental Association. He is board certified with the American Board of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Emergency Medicine.

Today, Dr. Nicks will be discussing what you need to know about COVID-19, what precautions to take, and how long to stay quarantined once you’ve been diagnosed.

NOTE: This interview was taped on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Information shared may have changed before airtime.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why should we stay home?

Why should we wash surfaces and our hands often? Dr. Nicks lists other things we may never think of that need frequent cleaning, especially if you are still working outside the home or run errands occasionally. Even your MAIL can have the virus!

How do we care for a sick person in our own home? What precautions should be observed if we take a meal or groceries to a COVID-19 positive person’s home?

Are there any imposed quarantines of mass areas in America?

Once someone ill with the Coronavirus recovers, how soon can they go back out in public? Dr. Nicks remarks that the recommendation has already changed several times, so make sure you are up-to-date with the correct information.

Will triage come down to treating only the most likely to survive? If a patient has flu-like symptoms, but tests negative for the flu, are they quarantined at a hospital while they await COVID-19 test results?

Was the test for the Coronavirus available from DAY ONE in America? The answer is YES, but it’s also complicated. Dr. Nicks explains…

Is this President Donald Trump’s fault?

If I consume larger amounts of coffee, will this help my immune system fight off not only the Coronavirus but other viruses? NOTE: This is a joke! Laughter is good for the soul.

Dr. Bret Nicks closes the interview with this encouragement: “When times are tough, when we’re facing situations as an entire country – let alone the world – we need to be gracious to one another and be thankful for what we have.
