Questions/Issues Discussed:

Has Texas long recognized the right to a trial by jury as one of our citizens’ most precious rights?

Who began the push for Tort Reform? Ware Wendell shares a brief history going back to 1971…

Have two home builders in Texas (David Weekly and Perry Homes) funded Tort Reform through financial donations to candidates for decades? Title: Part 2 of 3 - Judges, Tort Reform, and Your Rights
Topic: Right to a Trial by Jury
Discussed by Ware Wendell
with Texas Watch (www.TexasWatch.org)

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Baylor College of Law is one of the top law schools in the country. The professors are well-known and respected. Ware Wendell is still discussing the survey they sent to Judges across the state.

Did responding judges say they are still seeing too many frivolous lawsuits? Or are they reporting the opposite?

Question for YOU: If you or a loved one was injured or died due to medical malpractice, what would you do? Step aside and let the doctor/insurance company get away with it? Or would you sue?

Discussed by Ware Wendell

Did judges respond that they have seen too many excessive verdicts? Or are they reporting the opposite?

Did the majority of judges surveyed reveal that they witnessed juries award too little to the plaintiff?

Ware Wendell says this: “Our system is working. And frankly the Tort Reformers and the insurance companies are lying to us.”

Title: New Bill to Protect Your Rights
Topic: Deny, Delay, and Underpay!
Discussed by Ware Wendell
with Texas Watch (www.TexasWatch.org)

Insurers are destroying lives by denying and delaying legitimate claims. HB1739  would restore your rights, forcing your insurance company to fulfill the agreement they made with you when you signed your insurance policy.

Ware Wendell is the Executive Director of Texas Watch. He is dedicated to giving a voice to the need for public safety and full accountability through our civil justice system.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Do insurance companies use delaying tactics to intentionally slow the payment of claims?

Is corporate responsibility just as important as personal responsibility?

Would Texas HB1739 restore rights of those insured?

Does HB1739 have strong bipartisan support?

Call your Representative today to urge a “for favor” vote on HB1739. The Austin Capital Switchboard phone number is: 512.463.4630.
