The City of Austin has adopted a new mandate for businesses, set to go into effect on October 1, 2018.
The Texas Public Policy Foundation and other organizations have filed suit against the City, challenging the order.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
The City of Austin recently enacted a city ordinance mandating paid sick leave/time off for all employees with the City of Austin. Does everyone deserves paid sick leave?
NOTE: We are NOT disputing the NEED for paid sick leave. We actually think it is a GOOD THING! What is the issue, then?

Which businesses are mandated to give employees paid sick leave?
Does each employee receive 1 hour sick leave for each pay period wherein they
work 30 hours or more? Is this going to add headache upon headache for
employers, not mention an egregious financial burden?
SHOCKER: City of Houston employers/employees are exempt from
this ordinance!
Were there Town Hall meetings prior to the vote on this ordinance? Were they
well-advertised? Did Union members and lobbyists attend the meetings, pushing
for the ordinance passage?
Was the owner of County Line BBQ (where this issue began) bullied into
silence at the Town Hall meetings?
