Part 1 of 2

Dr. Vince Bertram is the author of a great new book, One Nation Under-Taught, which debut on the New York Best Seller at #7! Dr. Bertram was a school principal for a number of years in Indiana and was also a school superintendent. He has been in the public education system for a long time and has seen the ins and outs, the ups and downs – the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Today, Dr. Bertram discusses the failing school system in America. He says, “The problems we are facing in the American public education system can no longer be denied.” He also believes that many of the problems can be blamed on global focus groups who attempt a “one size fits all” method of teaching.

Listen in as Dr. Vince Bertram explains the premise behind his book, One Nation Under-Taught, and some of the solutions he suggests to get the public education system in America back on track.

Title: Part 2 of 2 - Our Schools are Failing Our Students
Topic: Education
Discussed by Dr. Vince Bertram
with Project Lead The Way (www.PLTW.org)

We have known for several years now that American students are falling behind other countries in the areas of math, science, and technology. We can now add engineering to this list. What is wrong? Why can’t our students keep up? This is not just a problem with lower income or poverty stricken school districts; it is a growing problem in middle to upper-middle class districts, as well.

Dr. Vince Bertram reviews some startling statistics concerning these subject areas. He says, “They are impaling our economy and creating major barriers for our students to be able to compete for jobs.” With the advancement of technology in today’s society, we need all the math, science, technology, and engineering kids we can get! Encourage your children or grandchildren to not only read every chance they can, but to also up their game in science and math.

Listen in as Dr. Bertram discusses what other countries are doing to advance their students compared to the United States. The answer may surprise you! Log on www.PLTW.org  for more on this serious issue.
