Title: Does the verdict in the Casey Anthony Trial condemn the whole Jury System in America?

Part 1 of 2

In America, are you innocent until found guilty by a jury of your peers? Did the talking heads unjustly find Casey Anthony guilty?

Thomas Jefferson considered the right to a trial by jury paramount. The bible even says not to find someone guilty of a capital crime by the testimony of just one witness.

In America, there are safeguards built into our criminal jury system. An accused wrongdoer is presumed innocent and the burden is on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond and to the exclusion of every reasonable doubt. But what now for Casey Anthony?

Will you serve on a jury if you receive the summons?

When the founders enumerated their grievances in the Declaration of Independence, they listed their right to trial by jury forefront in their list of complaints against King George. Ken Conner discusses how many in America are beginning to take our right to a trial by jury for granted. Many leaders in the Republican Party are actively working to limit our right to a trial by jury.

Ken closes with: A justice system that allows for the possibility of the guilty going free is undoubtedly unpalatable for those who wish to see Caylee Anthony’s death avenged, but it is a standard that recognizes and upholds the notion that life and liberty should not be deprived without due process of law. It’s not a perfect system, but none better has yet been devised by man.
