Prior to the November Elections in 1994, the mastermind of the Republican insurgence crafted the Contract With America.  Is was a sweeping 10-point plan, some called it a pledge. The conservative American voter was energized by this simple, forth-right plan. It worked, Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives for the first time in forty years.

Now, reaching into their “old play book” Republican bosses have crafted a new “Pledge”, but does it hold water? As the nursery rhyme goes: “There’s a hole in bucket, dear Liza dear Liza. There’s a whole in my bucket…”
Or was the bucket so full of hot air it just wisped away after it was spoken?

Phyllis Schlafly has been a national leader of the conservative movement since the publication of her best-selling 1964 book, A Choice Not An Echo. She has been a leader of the pro-family movement since 1972, when she started her national volunteer organization now called Eagle Forum. She was named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century by the Ladies' Home Journal.
