Discussed by Mark Lanier

Day 5
Are you a human being?
Yes? Then you are hard-wired for truth! Mark Lanier wants to share some truth with you this week as he presents the sermon based on his newest book “Atheism on Trial”.
If you cannot afford to purchase Mark’s book, email wantmore@biblical-literacy.org They would be happy to send you a copy of the book for free.
If you would like to help support future projects of the Lanier Theological Library and Mark’s books that spread the truth of the Gospel, click

Questions/Issues Discussed:
WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE?
Why is justice and fairness important? Is God fair and just? If He is fair and just, why is there war and cancer and poverty and pain?
Why do people uniquely value humanity?
Why do people seek meaning and significance in life?
Why is there suffering? Again: Why is there war and cancer and poverty and pain if God is a God of love?
Other topics in the book:
Why can’t we see God?
How does God mesh with science?
Mark says this in closing: “Atheism might be a nice mental exercise, but nobody can live consistent with it as a worldview.”
Hymn of Invitation: How Great is Our God, Chris Tomlin

Questions/Issues Discussed:
WHAT ARE OUR OPTIONS? Option #1: There is no God.
What is your worldview? Is there a God? Is there no God?
If there is no God, how do we know the difference between right and wrong? Mark uses Hitler and the Nuremberg trial as an example. He also shares about a friend of his who is an atheist.
Mark says: “If there is no God…then it’s a mental game.”
WHAT ARE OUR OPTIONS? Option #2: There IS a God.
What is a Judeo-Christian worldview?
Is there really a God that exists outside the universe who is infinite, personal, and moral?
Are humans made in God’s image?
Do we exist to be in relationship with God? Mark believes that every human being longs for a relationship with God – they just might not realize it yet.
Martin Luther: “The best human deed is tainted with at least a little bit of selfishness.” How does this prove that there is a God?
WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE?
Not everyone who attends church believes in God.
Not everyone who doesn’t attend church believes there is no God.
But everyone does believe that there is right and wrong.
Tune in tomorrow as Mark continues to discuss the evidence that there is a God.

What is your worldview? Is there a God? Is there no God?
How did the world come to be? How did you arrive on earth? Mark says: “If there is no God, then you are a sack of chemicals.” He also explains that our “sack of chemicals” is different than “other animals”. How can we be different if there is no God?
If there is no God, how do we know the difference between right and wrong? Mark uses Hitler and the Nuremberg trial as an example…

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Can Mark prove that there is a God? What does “proof” even mean? What are the options? What is the evidence?
WHAT DOES PROOF MEAN?
Can we “prove” that we love someone? Mark uses math, measuring cups, and a thermometer as examples of how you CANNOT prove your love for someone.
So how can Mark prove that there is a God?
Is proof more than just evidence?
Tune in tomorrow as Mark preaches on the options we have: There is no God OR there is a God.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
The American court system is an amazing thing. There are many different kinds of cases that are decided in courtrooms across America. The jury members are essential to every case and must be fair and impartial. So, how would Mark Lanier argue in a courtroom opposite an atheist, trying to prove to a jury that there IS a God?
Mark says: “It takes more faith to be an atheist than it does to believe in God.”
