Questions/Issues Discussed:
What are the top three philosophical views on “Suffering and Evil”?
1. God allows it
2. It is inevitable
3. It is inimical
Under suffering, both the church and the believer grow. Does this lead to an instrumentalist view? Reverend Dr. Michael Lloyd reminds us: “One of the ways that one’s theology can make things worse for the suffering person is precisely the assumption that if you’re going through something, you must have done something wrong… Jesus says that is wrong.”
If God is against suffering, how can one explain the suffering of Job?
Jesus cast demons into pigs. Does God cause animals to suffer? Dr. Lloyd says: “This is one of those areas where you can’t blame Adam and Eve for everything.” He goes on to explain the physical and spiritual realm and that animal suffering is not built into creation.
Did Adam and Eve have unique abilities that were lost in The Fall?

1. God allows it
2. It is inevitable
3. It is inimical
What is suffering? Why don’t we get what we want? Why does everything happen to me? Why do we have to die? What is REAL suffering? Reverend Dr. Michael Lloyd explains that there is a fine line, but there is a point where it becomes destructive. He also believes that line is different for every person. He says: “Godly bearing of innocent suffering changes things.”
Why do WE continue to make bad choices? Mark uses a Sudoku puzzle to explain his interpretation of “Suffering and Evil” and God’s response to our choices.
Tune in tomorrow as Mark asks Dr. Lloyd more questions from class members.

Does God cause bad things to happen to us? Reverend Dr. Michael Lloyd discusses Psalm 84:5-6 and Romans 8:28.
Why did Jesus reference Isaiah 61: “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me”? Mark offers an interesting Greek lesson to help us understand how God turns our mourning to joy. He says: “God is the ultimate recycler. He takes the garbage in our life and transforms it into something beautiful.”
