Questions/Issues Discussed:
One of Mark’s favorite hymns: “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”
Who is Isaac Watts? Why did he write hymns? Why didn’t he ever get married?
What hymn would Robert consider his favorite? He says his “favorite” is constantly changing, but he does love “Rejoice the Lord is King” and “And Can it Be”.
What is the purpose of a special part of Robert’s hymnal entitled “topics”? How does he use this daily?
Robert closes the lesson with the hymn “Now the Day is Over”.
Tune in next week as Mark continues in his Philippians series.

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Modern Song: “So Will I” (by Hillsong)
Mark loves this song! Why? He shares some of the lyrics…
Robert says this is another example of an “objective song”.
One of Mark’s favorite hymns: “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”
Why do some consider this the greatest hymn ever written?
Tune in tomorrow to hear more about the “Above Bar Baptist Church”…

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why it is important for the younger generation to know traditional hymns and for the older generation to know modern songs? Robert jokingly says: “The only problem with modern songs is we never know what the titles of them are.” So true!
Modern Songs: “Blessed Be the Name”, “The Revelation Song”, and “Indescribable”
Why does Robert think that modern songs aren’t sung enough?
Why does Mark make playlists for each trial (for work)? He shares his Spotify playlist from his June trial…
Hymn: “Oh Sacred Head”
When and why was this song written? This is super interesting!
Why isn’t this song sung anymore?

Questions/Issues Discussed:
Mark begins the segment today with a reference to a book, “Great Songs of the Church”, which is the hymnal he grew up with. (Good luck finding one! He has only found a handful on eBay.)
Hymn: “Crown Him with Many Crowns”
Why does Robert call it an “objective hymn”?
Who wrote the hymn? What denomination was he?
How did the Anglicans change the hymn?
Why does Robert keep a hymnal next to his Bible? Why does he use a hymnal as part of his daily devotion? He uses the song “My Heavenly Father Watches Over Me” to explain. This is a song that brought his wife, Katrina, much comfort as she battled multiple sclerosis before passing away on Veteran’s Day 2019.
