Title: Romans 6: Why is Baptism Important?
Topic: Importance of Baptism
Discussed by Pastor Ed Ethridge
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Part 1 of 3
On February 20, 2020, we had Pastor Ed Ethridge on to discuss the importance of baptism.
We just couldn’t fit all the information into three segments, so he is back today to continue the discussion, focusing on verses from Romans 6.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why Romans chapter 6?
Romans 6: 23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” What does this mean?
Will we take anything with us to heaven? Can we ever be “good enough” to get a free pass into heaven?
In the ESV for Romans 6, there is this chapter heading: Dead to Sin, Alive to God. Verse 1 reads: “What shall we say then?”
Question: Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?

Title: Part 2 of 3 - Romans 6: Why is Baptism Important?
Topic: Importance of Baptism
Discussed by Pastor Ed Ethridge
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Once a person has accepted Christ as Savior and Lord, will he/she live the rest
of their life without sinning? Pastor Ed has a saying he likes: “If you want
to live above sin, live above a pool hall!” Isn’t that the truth?
In Romans 6:4b, Paul says: “We too might walk in the newness of life.”
As a baby learns to walk, he will fall many times. Are we all like babies,
learning how to be Christians – falling over and over again? Pastor Ed uses the
beginning of Romans 6:4 to explain…
Did Paul automatically stop sinning when he became a Christian?

Title: Part 3 of 3 - Romans 6: Why is Baptism Important?
Topic: Importance of Baptism
Discussed by Pastor Ed Ethridge
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Questions/Issues Discussed:
When a person is baptized, are ALL of their sins washed clean – past, present,
and future? Pastor Ed uses the illustration of a funeral to explain his answer…
So… Why should every Christian be baptized?

Today, Pastor Ed Ethridge discusses the importance of Baptism.
Pastor Ed is the Pastor of Pastoral Care at CFBC.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Why was John the Baptist baptizing people in the wilderness?
Why did John the Baptist baptize Jesus? Was Jesus immersed?
Does Jesus suggest that we be baptized? Listen as he explains using Romans 6.
Which is the “right” way: sprinkled or immersed? NOTE:
This is Pastor Ed’s personal opinion based on his many years of studying
Scripture.
Why should every believer and follower of Jesus Christ be baptized?
