Churches are simply big families. It is a collection of people who do life together. This is why it can be so painful when someone decides to leave.
However, figuring out how to learn and grow as an organization and accept natural member movement can liberate how you mentally process learning that a member has left your church.

#1 Find Out Why
Sometimes people get transferred to another city. Sometimes people get their feelings hurt over a disagreement with another church member. Sometimes people just skip church for a few weeks and then they simply stop coming.
Why is it important to find out why people leave your church?
On another note: If a church member is hospitalized, why is it important for their spouse or family member to let the church know? Are hospital visits still important? Pastor Ed says “YES!”

What lessons can be learned from researching the reasons why people have left
their church? How can these lessons help the church grow?
#3 Trust God
Do some people simply leave a church because God is directing them on another
path? Why is it important for the pastor and/or church leadership not to get
offended by this?
#4 Be Thankful
Sometimes a church member complains a lot – about everything. Is it right to be
thankful that they left? Pastor Ed doesn’t believe this is the right approach.

#5 Reach Out
Some church leaders are fearful to discover why people leave their church. Don’t
be afraid! As stated above, lessons can be learned and will help your church
grow stronger for the Lord!
