Title: Why Do People Go to Church?
Topic: Christianity: Connecting With Other Christians
Discussed by Pastor Ed Ethridge
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Part 1 of 3
The Church is made up of individuals who meet collectively seeking something. Some come alone, afraid, empty; yet they come. Some come as a family. But why do they come? What are they seeking?
Pastor Ed is the Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care at Champion Forest Baptist Church. He has served in ministry for over four decades.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
The last time Pastor Ed was on the show, he discussed these six demographics: children, teens, young adults, those in mid-life, retirees, and the elderly.
Why should every church, regardless of denomination, focus on EVERY person who may walk through the door?
What if a church ignores one of these demographics? Will people stop visiting and coming?
Should every church have a welcome committee?
In Acts, the church grew so large that the apostles needed help! Is this still true of EVERY church today – no matter their size?
At Champion Forest, how many volunteers are needed on any given Sunday?

Title: Part 2 of 3 - Why Do People Go to Church?
Topic: Christianity: Connecting With Other Christians
Discussed by Pastor Ed Ethridge
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Can the church be comparable to a body which has many, many parts?
Is every Christian part of the corporate Body of Christ?
After Jesus saves our soul, is that it? Or is there more we are ALL called to
do?

Title: If We Know, We Go.
Topic: Christianity: Connecting With Other Christians
Discussed by Pastor Ed Ethridge
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Part 1 of 2
Pastor Ed Ethridge states: “If we don’t know someone is in the hospital, or has had a death in the family, how can we go, how can we offer prayer, how can we comfort? There is a need to be connected… How can we know the needs of others when they are NOT connected with other Christians?
It’s absolutely essential that we get outside of ourselves and meet people along the journey. We all will need someone sometime.”
Pastor Ed is the Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care at Champion Forest Baptist Church. He has served in ministry for over four decades.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Today, is it more difficult for pastors to know who is in hospital than it was just a few decades ago?
Whose responsibility is it to inform pastors of sick/hurt people in the hospital?
What does “If We Know, We Go” mean? Why is this the theme of the Pastoral Care unit at CFBC?
Does CFBC send pastors to every single Houston area hospital every day – even on the weekend?
Shifting Gears….
Many people attend a church service every Sunday, but don’t belong to a “small group”. Why are small groups important?

Title: Part 2 of 2 - If We Know, We Go.
Topic: Christianity: Connecting With Other Christians
Discussed by Pastor Ed Ethridge
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Questions/Issues Discussed:
Who is The Church? Is The Church just the pastors/leaders? Is it ‘just’ inside
the four walls of a building?
Did Jesus command us to “go into all the world and make disciples”? Is
this still our responsibility today?
How can we be the hands and feet of Jesus to everyone we meet – even at church?
““How are you today” is a common greeting. Should we rethink this
question? Should we be prepared for a more in-depth answer/conversation?
In contrast, should we start being honest with others when they ask us this
question?
Why should we make an effort to get to know our neighbors?
Do you have friends – a best friend? If not – first, be friendly yourself – is
will become contagious!
