Title: Better Education Opportunities for the Military Kids
Topic: Educating Military Kids
Discussed by Peter Murphy
with Invest in Education Foundation (www.investineducation.org)
Part 1 of 2
Our nation’s security and the education of its children are two
critically important issues that coincide with the need to ensure quality
educational opportunities for children of active-duty military.
Recent
studies have found that providing additional education alternatives for
children of military families can contribute to their quality of life and
ultimately the retention of needed, experienced personnel.
New guest, Peter Murphy, will be discussing Impact Aid, Education Savings
Accounts, and HR5199 and how it can help.
Questions/Issues Discussed:
What is the average age of our active-duty military personnel?
While serving, are active-duty military personnel often re-assigned to other
areas of the country and internationally? What affect does this have on the
children?
What is “Impact Aid”? Does this include Education Savings Accounts?

Could some of the dollars already budgeted by the DOD through
“Impact Aid” be shifted to the parents of school-aged children in the form of
Education Savings Accounts?
Who opposes Education Savings Accounts?
Will school districts “really” lose a lot of money if ESA’s were
adopted?
