Title: Prayer
Topic: Politics of Jesus
Discussed by Terry Lowry
with Host of the What's UP Radio Program

Scripture Reference: Exodus 15:11 (ESV)

Most Merciful Heavenly Father,

Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?

Who are we to be worthy of your attention? You watch over your creation with love and patience.

Be with our leaders, from the White House to the Court House to our houses of worship. Guide each leader with your Holy Spirit.

Meet them in their prayer closets. Give them visions in their dreams. Speak to them in your still, small voice in and through your Word.

May each seek your will.

Be in our homes around our supper tables. When we stop to say grace, be present in our hearts.

Be not far from your saints. Hear our pleas. Dry our tears. Guide and provide for us in your perfect will.

May your saints shout: “Holy, Holy, Holy, are you, Lord. There is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.”

Now, let’s be going and doing and working for the Kingdom.

And, Lord, if you grant us tomorrow, let’s repeat.

Praying in and through the name of Jesus,

Amen

Lifting these words to our Heavenly Father,

Gripping the steering wheel, holding a device, or looking at a screen, may we pause to give thanks to the God who cares.

Oh LORD, be so very near to each saint right now.

Move in their thoughts and be real in their lives.

Life is hard, very hard sometimes, and we long for your steady hand and presence in our troubles.

Our paths turn this way and that way, with hills to climb and dark valleys to traverse.

May we purposefully follow the path between your guardrails.

May each keep their eyes focused on heaven’s reward.

Hear our individual pleas, dry our tears, and remove our fears.

May we be your hands and feet to all we encounter.

May we treat others the way we would want them to treat us.

Father, be so very near to us today.

Holy Spirit, I lift up my empty cup.

Jesus, be my pilot today and always.

Amen and Amen

Title: Was Jesus Political?
Topic: Politics of Jesus
Discussed by Mark Tooley
with Institute on Religion and Democracy www.theIRD.org

Part 1 of 2

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. provoked controversy with this recent tweet:
Jesus said love our neighbors as ourselves but never told Caesar how to run Rome-he never said Roman soldiers should turn the other cheek in battle or that Caesar should allow all the barbarians to be Roman citizens or that Caesar should tax the rich to help poor. That’s our job.”

Listen as Mark Tooley, with the Institute on Religion and Democracy, discusses the “politics of Jesus”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Can Christians sincerely operate within different political perspectives?

Does the religious Left often minimize traditional Christian theology?

Do Christian activists of the Left accusingly ask “Would Jesus bomb another country? Would he deport undocumented immigrants? Would Jesus support Donald Trump?

Title: Part 2 of 2 - Was Jesus Political?
Topic: Politics of Jesus
Discussed by Mark Tooley
with Institute on Religion and Democracy www.theIRD.org

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Who is Jerry Falwell, Jr.?

Who is Shane Claiborne?

Instead of asking “What would Jesus do?” should we instead ask “What would Jesus have US do?

Is there hope outside of Jesus – no matter what your political affiliation?

Listen as Terry reads from Mathew 22:23-30. Some Democrats will be in heaven, just as some Republicans will be in hell.
