Title: Commitment Sunday
Topic: Multiply
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)

Day 5

This week, we conclude the MULTIPLY sermon series from Champion Forest Baptist Church. The focused verse for MULTIPLY comes from 2 Corinthians 9:10 “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

Scriptures for this week: Hebrews 11

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What stories will you be able to tell others of God’s faithfulness?

What is God doing right now in your heart? Do you need a fresh testimony of God’s faithfulness?

God has already supplied all your needs. Are you ready to step out in faith and trust Him?

Pastor Fleming reminds us: “If there is no other blessing to come from MULTIPLY, knowing Him more intimately will be sufficient.” But there is so much more than that! Listen as he expands on this…

Who will be in heaven one day because you chose to step out in faith?

Day 4

This week, we conclude the MULTIPLY sermon series from Champion Forest Baptist Church. The focused verse for MULTIPLY comes from 2 Corinthians 9:10 “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

Scriptures for this week: Hebrews 11

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Generosity should be the norm among Christians, not the exception. Is generosity your standard response to situations?

Generosity is a spiritual issue. For many of us, though, generosity is a stronghold. Listen as Pastor Fleming offers encouragement using Proverbs 11:24.

MULTIPLY is an opportunity and a challenge to not just be committed, but to be generous as well.

What stories will you be able to tell others of God’s faithfulness?

Day 3

This week, we conclude the MULTIPLY sermon series from Champion Forest Baptist Church. The focused verse for MULTIPLY comes from 2 Corinthians 9:10 “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

Scriptures for this week: Hebrews 11

Questions/Issues Discussed:

We commit ourselves to various things everyday – our spouse, our kids, our jobs, even our cell phones! Are you as committed to God and His church?

What are you willing to sacrifice in order for God to work through you – to MULTIPLY you?

We are defined by what we are committed to. Rick Warren says this: “Nothing shapes your life more the commitments you choose to make.” Listen as Pastor Fleming shares a personal story of commitment…

We cannot all give the same amount to God, whether it be financially or volunteering. But, we must all pray about what God wants us to give and follow through with faith and obedience.

2 Corinthians 9:11 “You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”

Generosity should be the norm among Christians, not the exception. Is generosity your standard response to situations?

This week, we conclude the MULTIPLY sermon series from Champion Forest Baptist Church. The focused verse for MULTIPLY comes from 2 Corinthians 9:10 “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

Scriptures for this week: Hebrews 11

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Is faith risky? Pastor Fleming responds: “God has more for us than He would ever ask from us. If God is asking for something great from us, it is only because He has something greater for us.

Did Isaac have the same faith in God that his parents did?

Why does God test our faith? Is He just being mean? HINT: Nope!

Abraham and Sarah waited for decades for a child. They trust God would be fulfill His promise. Can you wait that long?

We are all called to commitment – no matter our denomination, our race, our economic status. What are willing to sacrifice in order for God to work through you – to MULTIPLY you?

Scriptures for this week: Hebrews 11

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Is it hard for you to follow God’s plan in blind faith?

Hebrews 11 offers a summary of the high and low points of Abraham’s life. When God tested Abraham and Sarah, they kept believing in His promises.

Why did Abraham obey so faithfully?

Did Sarah have as much faith as Abraham?

Why should our first response to God’s call be faith? Why should our second response be obedience?

Is faith risky? Pastor Fleming responds: “God has more for us than He would ever ask from us. If God is asking for something great from us, it is only because He has something greater for us.

Day 5

Champion Forest Baptist Church has embarked on new journey to expand the Kingdom of God through an initiative they are calling MULTIPLY. MULTIPLY is a new and deeper way of thinking, of believing and trusting, of following Jesus, and of doing ministry and mission as His church.

The focused verse for MULTIPLY comes from 2 Corinthians 9:10 “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

Scriptures for this week:
Genesis 22

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Billy Graham definitely touched and changed millions of lives. But who shared Christ with Billy?

The same God who saved Billy Graham and used him to spread the Gospel has chosen you, too. What will you do with the realization?

Listen as Pastor Fleming leads the congregation in singing the hymn “Just As I Am”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why is Abraham’s blind faith so important for us to remember and understand?

What does Abraham’s son, Isaac, name mean?

Genesis 22 is a test of Abraham’s faith. We have the privilege of knowing God’s plan for Abraham, but he didn’t. He couldn’t see the future, and he scared to death!

What can we learn from Abraham’s faith that God would spare his son’s life?

Pastor Fleming says this in today’s segment: “God does not test us to fail us. He tests us to improve us. We just need to take the next step.”

The focused verse for MULTIPLY comes from 2 Corinthians 9:10 “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.”

Scriptures for this week:
Genesis 18:9-33

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Abraham passed test after test that God threw at him. But he didn’t brag about it. He didn’t boast in his faithfulness. Abraham knew that he still needed God to help him and save him.

Just as the people of Sodom and Gomorrah were Abraham’s responsibility, our neighbors are our responsibility. God has placed each of us in a specific location to share His love and grace to those around us. Don’t waste a single opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

There is a whole lot bigger flood than Harvey coming,” Pastor Fleming reminds us. “The righteous wrath of the judgment of God is stored up for sinners. It will not hold; that levy will break someday. And the only salvation is Jesus.

Do you trust God in everything, even with your finances? You may not be a member of Champion Forest Baptist Church, participating in their MULTIPLY initiative, but you still need to be faithful with your tithe to the Lord.

Why did God bring Abraham into the conversation between himself and the Lord? Pastor Fleming has two responses: 1) It is a teaching moment for Abraham (this was discussed during Wednesday’s segment) and 2) It is a test for Abraham (Genesis 18:22-33)

Was God being unfair when He spoke with Abraham concerning Sodom and Gomorrah?

Was Sodom and Gomorrah Abraham’s responsibility?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Step 4: Genesis 15:7-8 Rest in your covenant with God God entered into a covenant agreement with Abram. But Abram wanted God to promise to keep his word. Do you do the same thing? Do you put conditions on your agreements with God?

Don’t be afraid to make a commitment to God. Don’t be afraid to place all your faith in that covenant. After all, it is iron-clad. God won’t tear it into pieces if you make a mistake. In fact, He will clutch that promise even closer to His heart. He has given His all to you. Will you give your all to him?

Scriptures for this week:

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Yesterday, Pastor David Fleming offered some great Scriptures which remind us of God’s promises. Click on the Archives link on our Homepage to view them.

Like Abram, Thomas doubted. He was fearful of the future. But Jesus reassured him that he was the way, the truth, and the life. Lean in and listen to the voice of God. Let Him flood you flood you with His promises.

Step 3:
Genesis 15:6 Exercise your personal faith in God Pastor Fleming says: “It was Abram’s faith and belief that allowed him to receive the goodness of God which made him right with God.” He goes on to say: “Faith isn’t just the beginning of our Christian life; it is the sum total of it.

Faith is like a muscle – stress it to stretch it. God will take you to the gym! Faith must be stretched and strengthened in order to grow. Consider those testing moments opportunities to get stronger.

Step 2:

Genesis 15:4-5 Remember the promises of God When God promises something, He means it. He didn’t promise He would provide your needs right away, but He will fulfill His promise. There are 8,000 promises from God in the Bible. Listen as Pastor Fleming discusses some of them:

Ephesians 2:4-5 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved.

Romans 5:8But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 10:9If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Ephesians 2:8-108For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Psalm 37:25I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Philippians 4:19And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 9:10-11He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Hebrews 13:5I will never leave you nor forsake you.

Matthew 28:20I’m with always, even to the end of the age.

Step 1: Genesis 15:1-3 Face your fears and doubts about God “Fear and faith are not friends. They cannot coexist,” Pastor Fleming says. Abram and Sarah waited years and years and years for child, but God made them wait. Why?

Are you afraid? Do you doubt the future? You are not alone. Pastor Fleming even struggles with this from time to time.

Fear is the enemy of faith. Look through the Bible. How many times is the phrase “Fear not!” mentioned? A lot! Believe that and hold that promise close.

Genesis 15:1-21

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Multiply is nothing new to Champion Forest Baptist Church. They have been growing for years. Did you know that CFBC is one church in four locations across the Houston area? God is doing amazing things in our city!

Pastor Fleming has been preaching on Abram and his journey to becoming all that God intended for him to be.

This week’s sermon is entitled: “Replacing Fear with Faith”. Abram definitely had a lot of fear, but held on to his faith in God and stepped out of his comfort zone. Will you do the same?

Genesis 15:1-3 Face your fears and doubts about God
Fear and faith are not friends. They cannot coexist,” Pastor Fleming says. Abram and Sarah waited years and years and years for child, but God made them wait. Why? Tune in tomorrow for more!

Scriptures for this week:
Genesis 12:10-13
Genesis 13:1-15

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Is giving to the Lord essential?

Where are you in your life? Pastor Fleming uses some “considerations” this week to challenge you…

The first consideration was discussed in Monday’s segment: Consider the position of your heart before anything else. The second consideration: Consider the providence of God.

The third and final consideration: Consider the priority of your life. In Genesis 13:10-18, there are two very different sets of priorities. Abram’s decision was to give Lot the first choice. Abram illustrated not only faith in God, but trust that Lot would accept his offer. Secondly, Abram demonstrated a generous heart.

What happened to Lot? What happened to Abram?

We can chase a lot of things, but we will never catch them,” Pastor Fleming states. “Chase God and He will make the desires of your heart pursue you.

Where are you in your life? Pastor Fleming uses some “considerations” this week to challenge you…

Jim and Nancy Lebeau have been members of Champion Forest Baptist Church for many, many years. Jim has gone on to be with the Lord, but Nancy is still going strong! Listen as she offers her short testimony…

Pastor Fleming offers his final thoughts:
We make room for what we value.
What does your schedule look like?
Prioritize your budget. What is number one on the list?

Live by faith. Put God first. Give to others generously. Offer your talents freely.

You don’t need to be a member of Champion Forest Baptist Church to participate in the MULTIPLY initiative. Follow along with their weekly updates here.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why did Abram give the first choice of land to Lot? Pastor Fleming says: “Abram knew that God was the God of Lot’s choices.

Abram demonstrated trust in the promises of God… Listen as the church congregation sings a short part of “Standing on the Promises of God”.

Pastor Fleming goes on to say: “Faith in God means we trust Him even in the great unknown.

Have you made a commitment to God? We make commitments to pay a house and car payment. We make commitments to the cell phone and water company. “It’s not about commitment, though,” Pastor Fleming warns. “It’s about priority.”

Great verse for kids and teens to include them in major family discussions and decisions: 1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no one look down on you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

What is God providing for you? Pastor Fleming uses some “considerations” this week to challenge you…

The first consideration was discussed in Monday’s segment: Consider the position of your heart before anything else.

The second consideration: Consider the providence of God. What did Abram do for Lot in Genesis 13:5-9? Did this act help restore Abram’s faith in God?

Tune in tomorrow as Pastor Fleming continues with the second consideration…

Questions/Issues Discussed:

From the moment God called Abram, was he complete and satisfied? HINT: Absolutely not!

Why did Abram tell the Egyptians that his wife Sarah was his sister?

God is faithful to His word, even through our poor decisions,” Pastor David Fleming.

Although Abram lied, did God bless him anyway? Yes, but that doesn’t mean you can disobey God and expect to receive blessings.

Where are you with the Lord? Pastor Fleming uses some “considerations” this week to challenge you…

First: Consider the position of your heart before anything else. It is easy to be distracted with serving others, but your heart must be in the right place first.

The primary goal of MULTIPLY is not the gigantic dollar sign number. The primary goal is 100% participation. Listen as Pastor Fleming explains…

What if what God says is true? What if He really does have your best interest in mind? Surprise – Spoiler Alert: His words ARE true and he DOES want the best for you!

How can one person’s life become multiplied for the sake of the Kingdom? Pastor Fleming offers three insights: Follow God’s Plan, Focus on God’s Promises, and Fulfill God’s purposes.

God’s promises to Abram were part of a much bigger plan. He told Abram: “If you follow me, I will bless you, so that you will be a blessing.” Pastor Fleming goes even further and says: “Whatever God does for us, is meant to be multiplied through us.

God’s promises to Abram: I will show you (the way). I will make you (the Father of many nations). I will bless you (more than you can imagine)

Can you hear the voice of God saying: “I have more for you than I’ll ever ask from you”? Nothing we have can compare to what He has in store for us.

How can one person’s life become multiplied for the sake of the Kingdom? Pastor Fleming offers three insights. The first is: Follow God’s Plan.

This is obviously the first and most important step in multiplying God’s Kingdom. For Abram, obedience is not in his comfort zone; he was definitely stepping out in faith.

But how do we know when enough is enough? Is there such a thing when it comes to winning souls for the Kingdom? Pastor Fleming doesn’t believe there is ever a stopping point: “Multiply is about getting unsettled.”

Genesis 12 is the focus for this week’s sermon: “The Making of a Multiplier”. Abram’s story is an unexpected addition to the Bible. He was an idolater who became the father of three (3) monotheistic religions: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. But the outcome of his life is very different than one would have imagined.

Do you ever feel like Abram – not worthy? Well, there’s good news! You are exactly what God is looking for!
