Title: Devotion: Laws and the Torah
Topic: Devotion: Laws and the Torah
Discussed by Mark Lanier

Day 5

This week, Mark Lanier is previewing a new devotional book he is writing on the Torah, which will hopefully be released next spring. Listen in this week as Mark dissects the first five books of the Old Testament. He also has some interesting information about Noah’s name, the design of a priest’s robe, boring laws, and camping!

Mark Lanier will be back next week with his series: Paul – A Legal Case Study.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Numbers is another book that appears to be “boring” at first – but it’s really not! In Numbers 2, Mark finds some interesting information about how to camp! Who knew? (Note: This is not really about modern day camping. Just to clarify.)

Deuteronomy is the final book of the Torah. Did the people really deserve to live in the wilderness for forty years? YES! So do we! God has a plan for everyone’s life, no matter the age, ability, talent. If you’re not dead, you have a purpose! Pray and ask God what that purpose is. He will reveal it.

Be looking for more information about Mark Lanier’s new devotion book on the laws of God from the Torah in coming months.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Mark continues his preview of his devotion on Exodus from the Torah. Why does it scare him? It’s only about clothes!

Lesson from Exodus: God is all about the details, but He is also reassuring while we wait on Him to carry out those details. Don’t lose faith.

Leviticus is the next book of the Bible and the Torah. This is where a lot of the “boring laws” start confusing people. Are all these laws still applicable today? How are we to know what to follow and not to follow now?

More importantly, Mark believes that Leviticus is a great book to examine to learn how to treat others, thus affecting our relationship with God. Listen as he explains…

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Good, diligent Hebrews read through the Torah every year. This is how Mark Lanier is designing his new devotional book! Listen in as he explains how hard it actually is to follow this guideline!

Facts from Genesis: What does Noah’s name mean? And, why did Noah find favor in the eyes of the Lord?

Exodus 39:30 30They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote on it an inscription, like the engraving of a signet, 'Holy to the Lord.' 31And they tied to it a cord of blue to fasten it on the turban above, as the Lord had commanded Moses.” Listen as Mark explains why he loves these verses so much.
