Title: What’s Going on with the Presbyterian Church?
Topic: Presbyterian Church Dying
Discussed by Jeff Walton
with Institute on Religion and Democracy www.theIRD.org

Jeff Walton is the Communications Director at the Institute on Religion and Democracy. Last year, he joined us on the program discussing the sharp decline in members and participation in the Presbyterian Church. Today, Jeff offers an update… Are things better or worse?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What is the Presbyterian Church USA? What has been happening over the last decade? How have parishioners responded to the changes?

Is the PCUSA transitioning into a denomination of “old white people”, mainly Liberals?

What issues are on the agenda for this year’s General Assembly, to be held on June 16 through June 23?

Has the PCUSA been uniquely critical of Israel?

Does the PCUSA tout statist government solutions: the Savior is G.O.V.E.R.N.M.E.N.T. NOT G.O.D.?

Has there been a drastic decline in both children and adult baptisms within the PCUSA?

Have other parts of the Presbyterian Church (such as the Presbyterian Church in America and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church) noticed an increase in membership and baptisms? Are these more traditional or liberal in their beliefs?

New guest Jeff Walton is the Communications Manager for The Institute on Religion & Democracy. Today, Jeff will be discussing a topic of high importance: The steep decline of the Presbyterian Church. Is politics to blame?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Is the Presbyterian Church dying a slow death?

Over the last decade or so, how many members have left the Presbyterian Church?

In response to their numbers declining, a Presbyterian official declared: “We are not dying. We are reforming”. What does this mean?

Has the Presbyterian Church’s stance on same-sex marriage had an effect on church membership?

The Presbyterian Church has also abandoned other Biblical morals and values, including allowing an Islamic leader pray at their General Assembly in 2016. Tune in to the next segment as Jeff Walton discusses more in the next segment.
