Title: Why I Am Not a Hindu
Topic: Why I Am Not a Hindu

Day 5

The week’s lesson from Mark Lanier is a continuation of his “Why I Am Not” series, with “Why I Am Not a Hindu”. To be added to the email list and receive his lessons weekly, click on the link below.

If Mark Lanier did not have a Bible, he thinks he might be a Hindu. What?!?! Why? Listen in this week to find out!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Is Christianity the only “true” religion? When you study any religion, Mark believes you must look at all the beliefs of that religion. If anything – anything – doesn’t add up, then you should walk away.

Mark has played bits and pieces of George Harrison’s song, “My Sweet Lord”, throughout each segment this week. Of course, you know what’s coming next…A Remake by none other than the amazing Phil Keggy! Listen in for the new version…

Mark also mentions the time when Paul visited Athens to preach to the pagans, who are much like Hindus today. Paul was attempting to show the people who God really is. Should we not do the same with Hindus (and all other non-believers) today?

Not all roads lead to the mountain top. The only way to heaven is through belief and trust in Jesus Christ. We don’t get more chances to try again in another life. It’s a one-and-done deal. Will we mess up? Of course! That’s where God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness come into play.

Mark closes with Ephesians 1:3-6. Tune in next week as we share a message from special guest Alister McGrath, a Northern Irish theologian, priest, intellectual historian, scientist, and Christian apologist.

Mark is leading his 800+ member class into a deeper understanding of God’s Word. Join him next Sunday at Champion Forest Baptist Church in NW Houston.

Day 4

The week’s lesson from Mark Lanier is a continuation of his “Why I Am Not” series, with “Why I Am Not a Hindu”. To be added to the email list and receive his lessons weekly, click on the link below.

If Mark Lanier did not have a Bible, he thinks he might be a Hindu. What?!?! Why? Listen in this week to find out!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What do Hindus believe regarding the afterlife and reincarnation?

Is there a vast difference in the Caste System? What are the poorest referred to? Can you marry outside of your Caste? Is it possible to have good karma in one life and bad karma in the next?

Mark plays more music from George Harrison…

Down to the point… Why isn’t Mark Lanier a Hindu? Christianity has certainly had significant ups and downs throughout history, but at the core of our belief, Jesus Christ is there. It doesn’t matter how much we do, we are nothing without Jesus Christ. He fulfills our “karma”. Mark uses the first chapter in Romans to explain.

If Mark Lanier did not have a Bible, he thinks he might be a Hindu. What?!?! Why? Listen in this week to find out!

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Who is Max Muller? He made a bold statement over 100 years ago concerning Christianity and other religions, including Hinduism. Listen as Mark Lanier reveals the thoughts and teaching of Dr. Muller.

What did ancient Hindus believe concerning gods? Some beliefs were a little…gross, to put it nicely.

A second generality of Hinduism is the flexibility on gods. Some Hindus believe in many gods and others believe there is not a god. Most, however, believe in three central gods. Who are they and what is their purpose in Hinduism?

Mark plays a song by George Harrison, “Hare Krishna”. (We will not include the link to YouTube for this song, but you are welcome to look up the lyrics if you want to.) There is a reason Mark references this song. It’s a catchy tune, but it’s definitely not a good song!

Hindus do not recognize the same Heaven as Christians. What do Hindus believe concerning Heaven?

What is the cycle of “life” for Hindus?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

There are many people who practice the Hindu faith – some which may surprise you! But what do they really believe?

Do all roads lead to the mountaintop? Or do some lead to the beach? Do some lead nowhere?

How old is the religion of Hindu? Where did it originate? Do we know who started Hinduism?

Is there a set of rules which Hindus follow? Do they even have Scriptures to read?

The First Prime Minister of India, a devote Hindu, once stated: “Hinduism as a faith is vague…many sided – all things to all men. It’s hardly possible to define it.

Listen in over the next few days as Mark Lanier reveals some truths about Christianity which may prove you are NOT a Hindu.
