Day 5

Mark concludes his series on “Why I Am Not a Muslim” today. Tune in next week as he gives the third installment of “Psalms for Living”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Where did Mohammad “receive” his information? Mark uses different reference statements to shed some light on this subject.

What are the Islamic beliefs regarding the birth of Jesus?

Mark says: “The Muslim view of God is a limited welcome.”

Can God be kind and loving while still being fair and just?

So, which is right – the Bible or the Quran? Hint: This is really a no-brainer.

Listen in for Mark’s “Points for Home.”

Day 4

This is the final week for Mark’s presentation on “Why I Am Not a Muslim”. He makes a point to mention that he could teach on this particular religion for weeks and weeks, but he must condense it down. Therefore, he has chosen to elaborate on one final reason for his own personal belief that Islam is not the correct faith to follow: Historical Accuracy.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Listen in as Mark tells the story of a friend who is responsible for the translation of the Dead Sea Scrolls, who just happened to be in class last week.

Why is it important to know and believe that Jesus was crucified with nails through his hands AND feet? Why don’t Muslims believe this?

Where did Mohammad get his information so wrong?

What is the gnostic heresy?

Are there stories in the Quran which echo the Bible or fables?

Mark is leading his 800+ member class into a deeper understanding of God’s Word.  Join him next Sunday at Champion Forest Baptist Church in NW Houston.

Day 3

This is the final week for Mark’s presentation on “Why I Am Not a Muslim.

Disclaimer: Use caution when listening to this segment around little ears. Read below for further details.

Mark reviews two scenarios which give Muslims pause concerning the life and death of Jesus Christ. What are the events which led them to these beliefs? Matthew 26:57-68 is a great Scripture to use regarding the suffering Jesus endured before his death and his resurrection three days later.

The Apostle John also gives a good historical account of this event. These beatings were not like the spankings you may have received as a child. These were awful, brutal thrashings with unimaginable tools designed to inflict massive pain. *Do not listen to this segment around very young children.

Tune in tomorrow as Mark tells the story of a friend who is responsible for the translation of the Dead Sea Scrolls, who just happened to be in class last week…See what you miss when you stay home?

Day 2

This is the final week for Mark’s presentation on “Why I Am Not a Muslim”. He makes a point to mention that he could teach on this particular religion for weeks and weeks, but he must condense it down. Therefore, he has chosen to elaborate on one final reason for his own personal belief that Islam is not the correct faith to follow: Historical Accuracy.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why is common sense so important when studying different religions? Listen in as Mark continues his explanation from yesterday’s segment.

What historical “fact” from the Quran is easily disproved? Mark uses actual references from the Quran and the Bible to prove his point.

In light of the evidence revealed from the information Mark shares in this segment concerning the death and resurrection of Jesus, what are the two main responses and explanations from Muslims?

Tune in tomorrow as Mark outlines the events in the Gospels which lead him to believe the Bible over the Quran concerning this issue.

Therefore, he has chosen to elaborate on one final reason for his own personal belief that Islam is not the correct faith to follow: Historical Accuracy.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Before you decide to believe something, put it to the common-sense test,” Mark states.

Do you have confidence in the Bible? Do you believe that the Bible is historically accurate? Is the Quran historically accurate?

Mark has some common-sense facts for you, using an example from a court case, of course!

Jesus did not come and challenge us to believe in the face of common-sense,” Mark goes on to say. “Jesus came and said: ‘I am the Way. I am the Truth’. We are to seek truth.

Day 5

Does the Quran align with the Jew’s account of Jesus’s death?

Questions/Issues Discussed:

All sources prove that Jesus was, in fact, crucified. This is not just a Christian account.

What about Paul? What was his account of the death of Jesus?

Within the Muslim faith, one can go to heaven as long as you follow the rules. In other words, there is no need for one to be forgiven of their sins; there is no need for a Savior. Listen as Mark poses an interesting question to counteract this belief.

Points for Home:
1. There is a specific reason why Jesus was crucified.
2. The Cross is historical.
3. Our resurrection will happen…one day.

Listen in next week as Mark brings another lesson on the Book Psalms.

Day 4

The Quran account of the life and death of Jesus Christ is historically and factually untrue. Period. For Mark Lanier, this is the number one reason he cannot be a Muslim. Listen in as he expands on this and other causes.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Does the Quran only contradict the Christian account of the death of Jesus?

Mark gives an account of Tacitus, a pagan, who wrote the history of the Roman people. This particular story centers on Nero, the Roman Emperor.

Mark also tells the story of Peregrinus Proteus, a Greek philosopher who lived with the Christians one hundred years after the death of Jesus. He was not one of the “good guys”.

What about the Jew’s account of the death of Jesus? Does that align with Islam? Or is it closer to Christianity? Listen in tomorrow to hear more!

Day 3

Mark Lanier is comparing Biblical Scripture with Islamic scripture this week. The Quran is like a god to Muslims. They literally worship the words written by Mohammad. That is why they are so offended when someone burns the Quran and desire to kill the perpetrator.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Is there “proof” that Muhammad wrote the Quran?

Are there contradictory “revelations” in the Quran, just as there are in the Bible? What is the difference?

Why aren’t the stories in the Quran believable, yet they are in the Bible?

Mark looks at one passage in particular: Surah 4 verse 57. This passage denounces the death of Jesus Christ and has two views in the Muslim world as to what really happened.

This segment is so chock-full of information. Share this and the other segments on social media and with your email contacts.

Day 2

Mark will be comparing the Bible and the Quran for the rest of the week and why the differences are so significant.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

The Bible has 66 books, with many chapters, composed over 1,500 years by many different writers. All the books in the Bible have proven historical accounts and laws. All of the writings in the Bible are believed to be inspired by God. Are there contradictions? Does the message sometimes become twisted when translated into other languages? Yes, sometimes. Listen in as Mark explains why this is important.

Mark also points out another difference between Christians and Muslims: we do not worship the Bible.

In contrast, the Quran was “sent to Muhammad through the Holy Spirit working in his heart in a clear Arabic tongue.” Muhammad was illiterate, so he just verbally revealed what was “spoken” to him. Many Muslims believe that the Quran is only to be in Arabic, never translated. Tune in tomorrow for more!

NOTE: Mark only included the original Arabic from the Quran, as to not upset or anger any Muslims who may see his class online.

Day 1

Mark Lanier is back with his lesson on “Why I Am Not a Muslim” this week. During his first lesson on this topic, Mark began to explain the historical accuracy of Islam, compared to Judaism and Christianity. He will continue this explanation this week.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

As per his norm, Mark offers a story from his life as an attorney to explain his position on truthfulness. He has some rules for historical accuracy that he follows. What are they? And how do science and psychology play a part?

Can people really change their minds and hearts in regards to religion and faith? Mark did! Listen in!

Tune in tomorrow as Mark begins to look at some Islamic scripture.

Day 5

Was Muhammad really mentioned in the Old and New Testament as Muslims claim? Listen in as Mark gives scriptural references. For example, in John 16:7-14, Jesus is talking to his disciples about a messenger. The Bible and the Quran refer to this messenger differently.

Points for Home:
1. Commit every day to bring glory to Jesus. Really, really commit.
2. Allow the Bible to guide your life.
3. Remember to always look for the truth.

NOTE: Next week, Mark offers Part 2 of his study on the book of Psalms. He will be back in two weeks with more on “Why I Am Not a Muslim”.

Day 4

The Roman Empire was a big deal, having a near totalitarian power over many, many people. But there were also different tribes and groups of people who had their own governments and laws. Listen in as Mark concludes his explanation from yesterday.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

There were three main divisions to the nomadic tribes: families, clans, and troops. This is where Muhammad enters the pictures in the town of Mecca.

Why were some monks kicked out of the Roman Empire?

What is the significance of “the stone”?

When and why did Muhammad become the man responsible for revealing what is in the Bible? Is this now called the Quran?

Day 3

Mark continues his discussion on Saul, or Paul, from yesterday. “He’s either a nut job who has given away his entire life for an apparition, or he is a sane person who has been transformed by Jesus Christ,” Mark states.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

What is the Islamic faith based on?

Between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, which has more reliable historical references?

Why is it so difficult to argue history?

As a Christian, do you get irritated or defensive when someone doesn’t believe the Bible is accurate? Yes? Well, that is the same with Muslims. It’s important to be sensitive when discussing Islam. If you are not, they will not listen.

When the Roman Empire dissolved, the world was thrown into turmoil. Listen in as Mark discusses Constantinople, Persia, the Byzantine Empire, and nomadic tribes. He continues tomorrow, so tune in!

Day 2

Yesterday, Mark began telling a law-related story to explain why “I Am Not a Muslim”. He concludes that story today.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Why is it important to know the foundation of the Muslim faith through the Muslim scripture as compared to the Jewish and Christian Scriptures?

Fact (which you may not like!): Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all history-based religions. Listen in as Mark explains why he has listed them in this order.

Why are all the various tribes of Israel so important?

Where do Mary, Joseph, and Jesus come into play?

Why is the ministry of Jesus essential to the timeline?

The disciples are obviously critical as well. Mark explains this in a way you may not have heard before, especially about Saul, otherwise known as Paul. Tune in tomorrow for more!

Day 1

Mark is finally done with “Why I Am Not an Agnostic”. He now begins a series on “Why I Am Not a Muslim”.

Questions/Issues Discussed:

Are all Muslims peaceful? Are all Muslims terrorists?

Are there as many different types of Muslim faiths as there are Christian faiths?

Mark has one specific reason why he is not a Muslim: historical accuracy. Listen in this week as he explains why this is so important. Today, he uses an example from a case he is working on involving asbestos.
