Title: Be Encouraged! 2 Timothy 3:1-9
Topic: Be Encouraged
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Day 5
This week, Pastor Fleming has been explaining the difference between counterfeit Christianity and authentic Christianity.
There are those from the outside who desire to destroy the church and they will stop at nothing in their quest to do so. Yesterday, he revealed the shocking fact that the leading convert to cults are from the Baptist church. How does this happen?
The whole world seems to be falling apart, and America is on the top of the bad list. But Pastor Fleming refuses to be depressed. He has read the last chapter of the Book. He knows God wins! The next time someone starts talking about the End Times and how terrible things are getting, look at them, and say, “Don’t worry! God’s got this! Things might be bad down here but God is still God and He is still in control.”

Day 4
Today, Pastor Fleming talks about “Casual Cultural Christianity”. It is dangerous, he says. These are people who are Christian in name only. It is only convenient to be a Christian when it is “convenient”. When things are going good, then they are Christians. But when times get tough or they are faced with a threat, they will deny every time.
FACT: The leading convert to cults are from the Baptist church. This is very, very sad and discouraging.
Standing in the middle of a classroom with a gun to your head and NOT denying your Christianity under threat of a bullet is not radical. Refusing to deny Christ in the Middle East, knowing the torture you could endure for doing so, is NOT radical. It is authentic. Amen! Pastor Fleming is exactly right!
The time is coming when more and more Christians will be forced to deny their faith in Jesus or face consequences. This is when the “real Christians” will be shown. Are you a “real Christian” or are you a “Counterfeit Christian”?
Pastor Fleming uses the illustration of a dog on a chain to describe the reach that the devil has on Christians. That chained dog can only go so far until it is whipped back and must stop. How long is the devil’s leash over your life?

Day 3
Too many churches in America and around the globe have the appearance of being Christian when they are far, far from it. Pastor Fleming calls it “Counterfeit Christianity”. People slide in the side door of the church and spread false teachings quietly to a few people, who spread it to a few more people, who keep spreading it to others, until it has taken over.
Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11). False teachers are not going to “advertise” their wickedness. They will become your friend. They will teach your children. They will teach your class! Do you have the wisdom to weed them out? Do you have the guts to call them out? Maybe you misunderstood someone. Maybe they are flat wrong! Know your Bible. Know the truth. And don’t be afraid to use it! That’s what it’s for, after all. Pastor Fleming even encourages the congregation to check his facts! If you think he’s wrong, ask him about it!
Listen in as Pastor Fleming discusses the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO)
– the bathroom ordinance – to hear what he has to say about men using women’s bathrooms, changing facilities, and locker rooms. There are FALSE priests and pastors telling LIES about this ordinance. Beware and know the FACTS! (He will discuss this in more detail tomorrow, so tune in!)
“We have been called first to the cross,” Pastor Fleming reminds us. Check the facts. Be bold. Stand up. So many people are searching for more than what they have. Be the light in the dark to them. Don’t be afraid to get your feet wet. After all, that’s what Christ called us to do.

Day 2
Is anything stealing your love for God? You were made to love Him! Stop looking around at all the “Stuff”, wishing you had it all.
Matthew 6:33 states: “Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.” When you replace God with “things”, we risk everything. In fact, when you begin to love yourself and things more than God, Pastor Fleming says, “Everything is out of order and nothing works right….That’s a formula for a miserable life.”
But don’t we all deserve to be happy? Pastor Fleming says “NO!” When we put our love and attention where it belongs, then God causes everything else to work out and fall into place. Happiness will come along. It is the fruit of doing the right thing and loving God. We do not deserve to be loved and nurtured. We deserve death for our sins.
The corrupt culture in the world is coming into the church. Have we been too accepting and forgiving? Have we lost sight of winning souls in exchange for winning seats? The Scripture tells us we must flee evil. Run from it. If you have friends who are bringing you down, stay away.

Day 1
We are living in the end times. Actually, we have been living in the end times since Jesus came to this earth. I would imagine every single pastor, priest, minister, church leader, Sunday school teacher, and bible study leader has preached or taught on the end times at least once. Hell, fire, wrath, doom, and gloom! Repent or go to hell! The end times are coming! The end times are here! Get right with God now! And so on…
2 Timothy 3:1-9 is a common passage used with this type of scary sermon. However, Pastor David Fleming has a different message – one of hope and encourage! He doesn’t want to downplay the passage and its meaning, though. Things will be bad. Things will be tough. “However, this is a word of caution, not to scare us but to prepare us,” he believes.
We were created to love God first above everything else.
Have you noticed how selfish the world has become? Yes, even within the Christian community. The world has become full of people who only care about themselves and their own immediate satisfaction. People do whatever they want, whenever they want, without regard to the consequences or how their decisions will affect others around them. “The heart of the problem is a problem of the heart,” Pastor Fleming remarks. “We are at our best when we put God first and love him most.”
