Title: How Should Christians Respond?
Topic: The Future of Christianity
Discussed by Pastor David Fleming
with Champion Forest Baptist Church (www.ChampionForest.org)
Part 1 of 5
Listen in today as we air Pastor Fleming’s sermon from July 12, 2015 entitled
“Responding to the New Wind”.
Is homosexuality a sin? Should we accept homosexuals into the church? What
should our individual responses be to the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize
homosexual marriage in all 50 states? What should the church’s response be? We
aren’t to judge others, after all; we have our own sin to worry about.
Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor at Champion Forest Baptist, asks this
question: “What does this mean to the stability, to the unity, and to the
maturity of the church?” He says we are to speak the Truth in love. But how do
we do that?
This is the one issue where different denominations are very divided; even many
within the Evangelical church disagree. What does the Bible say? More
importantly, what would God say?
NOTE: Pastor Fleming gives some astonishing poll results concerning
Evangelical’s opinions on same-sex marriage. Listen in!

Homosexuals are under the
impression that all Christians hate them. We don’t hate them, although some
people may come across as hateful. We are not fearful or homophobic. We are not
trying to deny them basic human rights. As Pastor Fleming points out, “It’s
‘special rights’ that begin to impinge on our civil rights that concern us.”
There are some things that definitely need to be forgotten in this world, but
God’s Word is not one those. The LGBT agenda is inconsistent with God’s Word.
Period. Pastor Fleming takes us back to the book of Genesis to remind us why a
male/female marriage is the only way God planned it. He also uses familiar
passages such as Romans 1:16-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, and 1 Timothy 1:9-10 as
references.
QUESTION: Jesus never specifically mentioned the word “homosexuality” as a sin.
Does that still mean it’s wrong? Listen in as Pastor Fleming gives us insight
into this question often asked by the LGBT crowd.

When the LGBT “theologians” bring up Leviticus or Sodom and Gomorra, they often leave out critical passages to suit their agenda. They lie and twist the words of Paul to make it sound like he was a repressed homosexual. From the very beginning, Satan has been a liar; he has used people of influence throughout history to spread his lies to the masses. Pastor Fleming reminds us of the Truth: The Bible maintains that homosexuality is still a sin.
But we aren’t to judge others because we have sin in our own lives! Pastor Fleming agrees; we are not to judge as to condemn – that isn’t out job. We are, however, “to judge as to rightly discern and to divide the Word of God. We have the privilege and responsibility to speak the Truth in love,” he says. “There is a difference between sinners and repentant, saved sinners.”
“Same-sex marriage is a false experience; it is not a marriage”, he continues. Listen in as he explains his reasoning for not endorsing, nor attending, a same-sex wedding ceremony.
But what about loving our neighbors? This isn’t about not loving people; this is about loving them so much that we only want what’s best for them.
If truth leaves love behind, it is not the truth of God.

If we are to love
others, no matter what, how do we tell them the Truth in love?
Speaking the truth in love is, in fact, the very act of showing love. Parents
struggle with this as they raise their children. “Sometimes love is tough
because it acts in the best interest of the other even if the other doesn’t
appreciate the actions of love,” Pastor David Fleming says. “That is
love.”
Pastor Fleming goes on to explain that Christ dying on the cross was the
ultimate act of love. He didn’t die for himself. He didn’t die for his
disciples. He didn’t die for only Christians or Jews. He didn’t die for only a
handful of people. He died for every person who would ever walk this earth, no
matter what. Christ died to make all sinners whole again.

How are Christians
to respond to the LGBT agenda? Pastor Fleming has some wonderful, loving
Christ-centered suggestions.
1) Work to build authentic relationships with all people. “Instead of
walking across the street to avoid someone, walk across the street to engage
someone,” he challenges us.
2) Commit to pray with and for homosexuals. “Talk to God about people before
you talk to people about God.” Take it to God first, then take it to the
person. Ask God for open hearts and open minds – for all parties involved.
3) Speak the Truth and don’t forget the love. “Talk to them more, and talk
about them less.” We cannot get to know them if we don’t talk to them.
4) Make sure they know the Jesus you know. “Have a gospel conversation. Let
the Holy Spirit do his work. He’s far more convincing than our best arguments.”
5) Model authentic, biblical, Christ-centered marriages, home, and family. Rick
Warren once said, “We have to be a proponent of what’s right, not just an
opponent of what’s wrong.”
If you are struggling with same-sex attraction, Pastor David Fleming wants you

Title: Who’s Challenging Whom?

Part 1 of 4
Pastor David Fleming, Senior Pastor with
Champion Forest Baptist Church, delivered a wonderful sermon on June
28, 2015. The foundation behind the sermon
is Matthew 16:18 “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will
build my church, and the gates of Hell will not overcome it.”
The world seems to be going crazy, but as Christians, we should not fear what is
coming. We should rejoice! However, Pastor Fleming doesn’t want to minimize the
situation. Instead, he says we should maintain the proper perspective. “It’s
been a lot worse than we have it today,” he laments. “We are still here. And we
will endure.”
The church is definitely under attack, but that has always been true. Listen in
as he expands on this thought throughout this and the next three segments,
citing the many, many times throughout history Christians have faced harsh and
horrid persecution.

Many of the followers of Jesus
began to hate him. Religious leaders tried to kill him. But Jesus had some
surprises for them, that’s for sure! We may think that things are bad here on
earth but “Heaven always has a different perspective on things,” Pastor David
Fleming reminds us.
Throughout church history, within communities of corruption there have been
communities of faith. Christians learned to live for the Lord while living in
the world. Paul, like many apostles, continued to preach God’s Word in the midst
of beatings, prison, and even threats of death. But in the midst of all the
persecution, the Kingdom grew! Thanks to their obedience and persistence, we are
still here.
Even today, Christians all over the world are being killed for their faith. In
America, we have it easy. Sure things are getting are rough, but it isn’t as bad
as it could be. We must not give up or give in; we must keep fighting and
spreading the love of God – no matter what.

Title: Part 3 of 4 - Who’s Challenging Whom?

If you truly profess
to be a Christian, sooner or later you will be challenged in your faith.
“Why is the wrong question,” Pastor Fleming says. “Why not is the
right question.” If they persecuted Jesus, why wouldn’t they persecute us?
Pastor Fleming doesn’t hold anything back in this third segment. Listen in as he
uses 1 John 2 to support his claims about the church’s persecution.
He also offers five responses when challenged by the culture. He reveals the
first two in this segment:
1) Don’t be surprised when the world hates you – they hate things they don’t
understand; and
2) Trust in the Lord with all things – God is still control.

Pastor David Fleming
continues with his five responses Christians should use when challenged by the
world:
3) Stand your ground – no one can make you change your mind;
4) Make a difference – the best defense is a good offense; and
5) Remember who you are and Who you represent – Don’t stand for Christ in any
way that is un-Christlike.
Our opinion is not based on popular opinion; it is based on God’s Word. “Here’s
the good news,” Pastor Fleming says. “We don’t have to wonder about
this. God has spoken on all of these issues. He wrote it all down in a love
letter called the Bible.”
